This idea needs to die quickly.

  3. It doesn't matter whether or not the cloud provider claims to encrypt the data if your password or key is handled on the cloud side (which is the case for 99.9% of cloud services). Just don't assume that your cloud content is private.

@Brandon H, you can argue for this all you want but if people don’t like it, they don’t like it. Nothing you say will change that.

The ad is in your face. There's a yellow bar across the top of the screen asking you to use another service. Wordpad isn't meant to be a word replacement, it's basically a low end processor for when you need something more than Notepad (fonts, alignments, bullet points, etc...). It's really not in your face though. It's a small bar; it's not like it's a full screen popup demanding 'USE THIS!!!' If you're really that worried about a few pixels of vertical space then you may need a bigger monitor or one with a better resolution. It's in your face, and it requires user interaction to dismiss as well. My monitor is fine, thank you. that doesn't make it in your face. I'm sorry if we have different definitions of 'in your face' In your face to me means it's over taking things and I HAVE to interact with it to proceed or uncover my content that I'm trying to interact with. Yes, it does. They're taking a system element meant for action prompts, i.e enabling add-ons, defaults, program notices (i.e something is disabled), macros, etc... and turning it into an advertisement. Those yellow bars are indicative of an immediate action. MS has taken those and again is now advertising 365. That is the definition of in your face, where an action prompt, that draws a user to do something is being displayed.

  10. Hey there, Crazy looking at this forum and seeing some familiar names from nearly 20 years ago. Hope everyone is well. I've been on OSX for years, but have had enough of Apple slowly turning it into iOS and nerfing Catalina for audio production. Two questions: 1) How does one theme Windows 10? It is the same method from XP? 2) Do themes work with Windows 10 LTSC? That'll be the chosen OS as to avoid bloatware and whatnot. I've recently created a theme for Reaper (music DAW), which you can see in full detail here. I'm tempted to create a W10 theme that matches it, or at least, make W10 more bearable to look at. Happy 2020 :¬)

  13. Completely missed the point. It’s not about doing something nefarious, it’s about the fact that it’s unencrypted. I don’t have to be doing something nefarious if I worry about the contents of my backups being exposed to anyone who happens to intercept or obtain them, fbi or other.

  14. Disney+ now launching a week earlier in the UK and Western Europe

They have no content I'm interested in that I don't already have. They've ruined the two properties I used to be interested in: Star Wars and Marvel. Plus, I've already got Amazon Video, Hulu and Netflix. I'm not looking to add a bunch of new streaming services. I find it humorous that so many are self-proclaimed "cable cutters", yet by the time they get all these streaming services they'll essentially have duplicated cable.

  19. Bacteria is what causes odour which this kills. They've just gone for the virus marketing angle first up. Can do the same throwing clothes on the freezer however they do get wrinkled. Not just that, your body sweats especially so in the summer. How is this going to remove sweat from your clothes? So if you come home from a 40c day in the summer, you can go to work the following day already smelling awful.

I use Notepad/WordPad to edit basic text files or config files. Something Word tends to mess up. Moving more towards Notepad++, but the other two are just handier, sometimes.

  23. YouTube TV is now available on the PlayStation 4

My life is now complete. I can think of nothing better than YouTube TV on PS4, I am so thankful that it has been released at last. Sincerely I have been waiting for the day where I can watch such quality entertainment on my favourite gaming console.

  24. Curved edges? No thanks. They just give the impression that the screen is somehow too narrow, increase reflection angles, and affect colors on the sides. For no real benefit. I did not know all that when I bought the 7 Pro, tried to use it, and was so annoyed by those curved edges that I returned it ASAP. Perhaps it's less annoying on Samsung devices, I've read somewhere that the amount of curvature is substantially lower.

It's not up to you or them to decide what the user wants. The OS and tools are supposed to facilitate whatever the user is trying to do, not steer them towards a particular way that someone else believes is the right way. Everyone has heard of office and if they want it they'll get it. If they haven't heard of Word Web then they should do better advertising in places that offer advertising slots. This is just turning Wordpad into nagware. Doesn't surprise me they are trying to push as much as they can because most people will roll their eyes and put up with it. Personally I don't and I go out of my way to avoid ads and branding. Maybe people like me are not a significant market segment and they can stand to lose us. That's fine, more people to support the ad-free stuff. what if they ARE planning to retire the product and remove it from Windows with a future update? Then advising in advance that there's a better alternative available is a good/nice thing to do. And yes while everyone may be aware of Office they may NOT be aware that there's a free web client version available to use. A small bar can be easily ignored or closed; it's not like it's a full screen popup or blocking content on your page ... People will download Abiword and use that instead of WordPad hopefully. The last Windows version release was 5 years ago because of lack of Windows developers, maybe now Windows developer attention will increase and they'll update the Windows build. The old one still works great though. Hopefully Windows 10 Linux support will include an official X client and then you'll just be able to run comparable Linux apps.

  27. Considering that it costs twice as much, I would hope so. Except it doesn’t. $2399.00 / 2 = $1199.50 I stand corrected. I was off by $0.50.

But at least you now have choice. My issue (and may be others as well) is that if you wanted to watch a single film/channel, you'd normally need to subscribe to another dozen channels that you didn't need. There may be 100 streaming services, but you now have choice. I mainly use Netflix and Prime Video, if I ever wanted to watch something on Disney+, I'd sub for a month and then cancel. All for the price of a pint or two

That's actually not as bad as I thought considering it supposed to replace the washer and dryer. I just paid $800 for a washer. That's a mental price for a washing machine.

  42. But what are you talking about? The article is about FIREFOX, not Opera, Edge, Vivaldi, etc. Firefox is the only browser today that isn't based on Chromium. Pay attention before writing. There's no need to be nasty about it, for years there were never any real browser alternatives except crappy adblock skins of chromium. I was under the impression that even Firefox (on Android) used chromium. I'm not trying to be nasty, sorry about that, but one must be informed before commenting.
