  3. It doesn't matter whether or not the cloud provider claims to encrypt the data if your password or key is handled on the cloud side (which is the case for 99.9% of cloud services). Just don't assume that your cloud content is private.

@Brandon H, you can argue for this all you want but if people don’t like it, they don’t like it. Nothing you say will change that.

The ad is in your face. There's a yellow bar across the top of the screen asking you to use another service. Wordpad isn't meant to be a word replacement, it's basically a low end processor for when you need something more than Notepad (fonts, alignments, bullet points, etc...). It's really not in your face though. It's a small bar; it's not like it's a full screen popup demanding 'USE THIS!!!' If you're really that worried about a few pixels of vertical space then you may need a bigger monitor or one with a better resolution. It's in your face, and it requires user interaction to dismiss as well. My monitor is fine, thank you. that doesn't make it in your face. I'm sorry if we have different definitions of 'in your face' In your face to me means it's over taking things and I HAVE to interact with it to proceed or uncover my content that I'm trying to interact with. Yes, it does. They're taking a system element meant for action prompts, i.e enabling add-ons, defaults, program notices (i.e something is disabled), macros, etc... and turning it into an advertisement. Those yellow bars are indicative of an immediate action. MS has taken those and again is now advertising 365. That is the definition of in your face, where an action prompt, that draws a user to do something is being displayed.

  10. Hey there, Crazy looking at this forum and seeing some familiar names from nearly 20 years ago. Hope everyone is well. I've been on OSX for years, but have had enough of Apple slowly turning it into iOS and nerfing Catalina for audio production. Two questions: 1) How does one theme Windows 10? It is the same method from XP? 2) Do themes work with Windows 10 LTSC? That'll be the chosen OS as to avoid bloatware and whatnot. I've recently created a theme for Reaper (music DAW), which you can see in full detail here. I'm tempted to create a W10 theme that matches it, or at least, make W10 more bearable to look at. Happy 2020 :¬)

  13. Completely missed the point. It’s not about doing something nefarious, it’s about the fact that it’s unencrypted. I don’t have to be doing something nefarious if I worry about the contents of my backups being exposed to anyone who happens to intercept or obtain them, fbi or other.

They have no content I'm interested in that I don't already have. They've ruined the two properties I used to be interested in: Star Wars and Marvel. Plus, I've already got Amazon Video, Hulu and Netflix. I'm not looking to add a bunch of new streaming services. I find it humorous that so many are self-proclaimed "cable cutters", yet by the time they get all these streaming services they'll essentially have duplicated cable.

Not just that, your body sweats especially so in the summer. How is this going to remove sweat from your clothes? So if you come home from a 40c day in the summer, you can go to work the following day already smelling awful.

I use Notepad/WordPad to edit basic text files or config files. Something Word tends to mess up. Moving more towards Notepad++, but the other two are just handier, sometimes.

My life is now complete. I can think of nothing better than YouTube TV on PS4, I am so thankful that it has been released at last. Sincerely I have been waiting for the day where I can watch such quality entertainment on my favourite gaming console.

It's not up to you or them to decide what the user wants. The OS and tools are supposed to facilitate whatever the user is trying to do, not steer them towards a particular way that someone else believes is the right way. Everyone has heard of office and if they want it they'll get it. If they haven't heard of Word Web then they should do better advertising in places that offer advertising slots. This is just turning Wordpad into nagware. Doesn't surprise me they are trying to push as much as they can because most people will roll their eyes and put up with it. Personally I don't and I go out of my way to avoid ads and branding. Maybe people like me are not a significant market segment and they can stand to lose us. That's fine, more people to support the ad-free stuff. what if they ARE planning to retire the product and remove it from Windows with a future update? Then advising in advance that there's a better alternative available is a good/nice thing to do. And yes while everyone may be aware of Office they may NOT be aware that there's a free web client version available to use. A small bar can be easily ignored or closed; it's not like it's a full screen popup or blocking content on your page ... People will download Abiword and use that instead of WordPad hopefully. ABIWord, LibreOffice, WPS Office, etc. there are plenty of good Office alternatives that's very true all of them nearly as good as Office itself and leagues better than legacy WordPad

Gotta release it early to keep that revenue rolling. They blew their load on the Mandalorian and now don't have anything of value to release in the pipeline for some quite time. Saw an add the other day "The customers have asked and we responded. Aladdin is now on the platform". NO ONE ASKED FOR IT. That being said all these companies are seeing people cutting cords and want their piece of the pie. As others have said once/if you get multiples of these you might as well just stay on cable. Wonder how much money they are actually making hosting all this themselves vs just having Netflix pay them royalties etc. The infrastructure/bandwidth alone seems like it would cost quite a bit. Not too mention employees/support/development etc. to keep it all going.

But at least you now have choice. My issue (and may be others as well) is that if you wanted to watch a single film/channel, you'd normally need to subscribe to another dozen channels that you didn't need. There may be 100 streaming services, but you now have choice. I mainly use Netflix and Prime Video, if I ever wanted to watch something on Disney+, I'd sub for a month and then cancel. All for the price of a pint or two

Thanks for the heads up on this @allan.nyholm ...really cool to see that name here. Really huge fan of your XP stuff. I'm currently on Windows 10 and have been making themes for a couple years now. Non near on par with your stuff but I try within the confines of Windows 10 as far as theme capabilities. I'd be honored if you had the chance to check my user Gallery and let me know your thoughts. Perhaps a collab on something would interest you?

  44. All the regulations in the world aren't going to stop people from coding AI. The genie is out of the bottle. You just have to know what's possible to know how to deal with it. As for deepfakes, I think the solution to deepfakes is to simply flood the Internet with deepfakes. Make sure everyone knows what's possible with video and audio manipulation.

  45. The sound barrier is whatever the local speed of sound is, which varies depending on altitude, humidity and rain. Mach technically is the speed of sound, but practically is given a static conversion of 1.0 = 760mph. In that case, it is entirely possible for Mach 1.0 to not be the sound barrier. However, I agree, it is not possible for the sound barrier to be Mach 2.0, you would almost have to be underwater for that to be true. Looks like the article has been edited, but it originally said the capsule produced a sonic boom at Mach 2. Figured I'd post the general comment, but you're right overall.

  46. But what are you talking about? The article is about FIREFOX, not Opera, Edge, Vivaldi, etc. Firefox is the only browser today that isn't based on Chromium. Pay attention before writing. There's no need to be nasty about it, for years there were never any real browser alternatives except crappy adblock skins of chromium. I was under the impression that even Firefox (on Android) used chromium. I'm not trying to be nasty, sorry about that, but one must be informed before commenting.

  48. After years of suffering degrading hearing, I got a hearing aid

For a bit of background, I was born with no hearing in my right ear, and due to this I need to protect my left ear as well as possible, but after many years of general noise exposure my hearing has declined, I have been to different doctors, and had my share of hearing tests, but this last doctor I saw finally saw the results and suggested that I would benefit from a hearing aid, and even setup the appointment. So 3 weeks ago I finally got the hearing aid, at no cost to me (the insurance covered the whole cost) and I just can not believe how much of a difference it has made, the unit is so small you can not even tell that I am wearing it, and it is bluetooth enabled, so I can use it to talk on my cell phone!
