Such numbers scare me honestly because I am a hardcore geek who stays away from anything Apple makes because I find no value for money in their products besides them being incredibly dumbed down. I am proud to have never contributed to their earnings. Although I have used and tried MacBooks, iPads, iPhones throughly, hated them and went back to Windows PCs and Android phones/phablets. The only Apple product I liked back in the 90s was QuickTime for Windows. 🤣🤣🤣3 points -

Using it looks like it would be a pain. The screen protector turns into a stand alone? It doesn't look like it will fold all the way back, so the door must just flop around when talking or trying to take pictures. Paying $5200+ for a massive step back in usability is just crazy.2 points -

How these Lakefield CPUs perform under load probably isn't as important as how little power it consumes when it's idle. Numbers I've seen elsewhere suggest that it'll be somewhere in the 500mW range at idle and 5 watts under load, which makes it competitive with ARM. The Snapdragon 855 in my Galaxy S10, for comparison, idles at around 1 watt. If that's true, then that's the end of the "ARM is more efficient!" argument, at least in the phone space. Windows 10 1909 also has an updated kernel that understands fast & slow CPU cores and can schedule work accordingly. 2020's going to be an interesting year for mobile CPUs, that's for sure.1 point -

I'm confused, at first I thought it was gonna be one platform that hosts it all (A bit like Shift, but made by google and thus more integrated), but then they compare it to slack and teams, which is basically what Hangouts Chat is (On a bit of a lesser degree). They should just improve on Hangouts Chat and add functions for all google services, that would work imo...1 point -

Nah, you’re just over analyzing it. Considering this is part of my job for which investment decisions are made, no I'm not. Apple News, Apple Pay etc etc have been around for years & included in quarterly & annual results. The only new services are TV+ & Arcade.1 point -

Samsung's upcoming foldable phone might come with rubber bumpers to protect the screen
nizz0n reacted to George P for a topic
I don't think we're quite there yet on folding screen tech, don't think they last long enough to make up for the insane price of such a device. But that aside, this type of folding screen makes the most sense to me compared to doing it the other way. Having it folding up and down instead of left and right looks like a much easier sell to people at this point. The other devices are basically taking something that folds open to be more like a tablet, this just takes the shape everyone's already used to and folds it in a more familiar way.1 point -

Google acknowledges the controversial redesign of its search results on desktop
quikmantx reacted to Atlantico for a topic
Of course no one is surprised. Unfortunately they happen to have the best search engine, the second best (apparently, not sure I believe it) is bing and in comparison I would actually class bing as entirely useless. Clearly google knows this, so they have free reign to so whatever. I ditched Google as a search engine more than a year ago for Bing. Turns out, it's good enough. DuckDuckGo being my second alternative and only if all else fails I check Google - and more often than not, in those cases, not even Google is worth a damn.1 point -

These things are not designed for graphic heavy work, they're for low power general use for crying out loud. Yeah, I don't know whether you live in the land of the trust fund kid or something but your average person doesn't buy a 2 grand laptop to browse the web and watch netflix.1 point
