Surface Pro X users are finding that they can't update Surface Dock firmware
LunarShadow and 5 others reacted to noobient for a topic
Just the regular Microsoft quality. There are many things you can't do in S Mode either. Like run Microsoft Teams. Which is essentially an electron app anyway. How hard could it be to release it as an app? And the best part is that if you open the web version, it nags you to download the app... which you can't do in S Mode. Ridiculous.6 points -

Given the cost of the dock vs other USB c docks, sticking with ms' solution seems bizarre unless you've already got an ms dock. They're still hundreds of dollars when a usbc dock will do it all for 25 bucks.3 points -
Apple reports Q1 2020 revenue of $91.8 billion
PeterTHX and 2 others reacted to MS Bob 11 for a topic
Such numbers scare me honestly because I am a hardcore geek who stays away from anything Apple makes because I find no value for money in their products besides them being incredibly dumbed down. I am proud to have never contributed to their earnings. Although I have used and tried MacBooks, iPads, iPhones throughly, hated them and went back to Windows PCs and Android phones/phablets. The only Apple product I liked back in the 90s was QuickTime for Windows. 🤣🤣🤣3 points -

Still using Fluxbox. Still hate desktop icons. Window decorations are MacOS inspired, using gimp to create a theme in flux format. This old box has been around for many years, and is still running like a beast (hence the hostname) Network tray applet is nm-applet. Volume tray applet is pnmixer. Not sure I attached the screenshot properly to get a full resolution view, but I have kept the preview within the guidelines.1 point -
Canon IR C2225 Printer?
Mindovermaster reacted to Brandon H for a topic
you might be better off requesting a service specialist come out and physically look at it but there are a couple things you could try. Take out and reinsert your toner cartridge and check to make sure it's not empty while you're at it Try doing a factory reset from settings to see if that helps It could be a clog with your toner if pages are still printing blank so this is where a service specialist would be best.1 point -
Russia says “nyet” to ProtonMail as it blocks the privacy-friendly e-mail provider
trag3dy reacted to RejZoR for a topic
Exactly. Other services who will cooperate with the law on criminal activities That makes it sound like ProtonMail doesn't cooperate with law enforcement. Which is false. They cooperate all the time. But they can't cooperate for things that are out of their control, like encrypted e-mail messages. And if they do like Tutanota has, by intercepting messages that are not end to end encrypted prior to encrypted storage, then they can pretty much just close the service as it has no substance anymore. Also, thinking if everything is encrypted, it shouldn't exist coz muh terrorism/pedophiles/insert an excuse. Bad people will find a way to do their bad things. I, as a private law abiding citizen sure as ###### don't want my messages being monitored by anyone. If they believe I'm doing something illegal, find some other ######ing way. Which is how they get info on actual criminals, they just want to make it absurdly easy by just blatantly banning entire services...1 point -

BT announces new plan to have customers return routers after contracts end
Jaxkesa reacted to n_K for a topic
This has nothing to do with reuse, this is just a way for them to charge extra when you leave them because they know full well people will forget or too busy or they'll introduce something whereby your return will be rejected if it's chipped or whatever. Highly doubt they will reuse ANY of these returned routers.1 point -

Yes, very much so. why? you write that now if it were updated, not likely....! My views of IE have and always will be the same, it's a POS. You were probably too young during the IE5/6 days to remember the mess it made of the web. That's ok, if he wasn't around for it then. BT announces new plan to have customers return routers after contracts end
cleverclogs reacted to boo_star for a topic
It's utterly nuts. When I first moved to FTTC BT would ONLY give me a Huawei modem. I had to provide my own router for it to be usable outside a direct connection to my PC. Now everyone and their cat insist on providing their own junk routers and you're supposed to return the piece of crap you didn't ask for in the first place to avoid having to pay for it. You couldn't make it up.1 point -

Surface Pro X users are finding that they can't update Surface Dock firmware
dead.cell reacted to Circaflex for a topic
Probably a good thing to be honest, the Surface Dock is downright terrible. I was a huge supporter of the device initially, but the dock is so finicky and the quality control on them is horrendous. I would advice potential purchasers to look at a different solution. The other upside would be if the dock connects via USB of some sort, you can probably use it on the future device that replaces your surface whereas the surface dock only works for the surface group.1 point -
BT announces new plan to have customers return routers after contracts end
Elliot B. reacted to forster for a topic
Im torn on this one, on the one hand their routers are garbage anyway and I'd rather buy my own. On the other hand I've got 4 BT routers sat in a storage box and I'd love to have had an incentive to send them back to the company and know that there was something good being done with them. Right now they are just sat there for that day when Im going to eventually eBay them for a fiver, or something.1 point -

Graphic Design Computer?
Ehizojie Eben reacted to Tribal for a topic
Im a GD Student, a real one, not like those ads you see on tv "BECOME A GRAPHIC DESIGNER IN 6 WEEKS" :p The industry is Mac driven, I use a PC at home and Mac labs at school, picking up the mac os is very easy, also ive noticed the stability is a lot better on macs, and thats going to come in real handy while doing graphic work. As for networking to PC's ive worked in a few shops that do this specifically for storage reasons and its never seemed to be a problem, so if you got the cash i would say go with a mac, but again, its just an opinion from some dude on the internet. :)1 point
