Starfleet looks like utter garbage right now. I’ve never really liked them, but wow, the degradation they have suffered (regardless of current conspiracy) really paints them as bad guys in this series. Thinking they have the power to end a species and justify it? No wonder Picard left. Definitely some major prime directive violations happening. We had warning signs of this in TNG when Picard could of used Hugh to end the Borg, and he got called out by starfleet in a later episode for not doing it. Not to mention s31 trying to wipe out the Founders, granted a war was occurring. This degradation has been happening for far longer than only after Nemesis. Loving this series so far. Episode 2 ended so abruptly, really wish episode 3 was available lol. I do wish we could see some fresh starfleet starship designs. We saw some weird ones orbiting Mars this episode, but those looked more like construction vessels. I also hope they fill in more of what happened to the Enterprise E, as well as new vessel we saw him command in the comics. I am interested to see if this conspiracy results in the pulling out of member species in the federation, as been alluded to in Discovery/31st century.2 points -

Microsoft is shutting down its Ad Monetization platform for UWP apps

Told you so. At some point in the past some idiot thought that PC needs store for apps. The only reason store was ever created for iPhone and later for Android Phones is due the nature of device itself and store made sense to do app deployment to such devices. Anything past that, as I said you have to be an idiot to think it is a good thing. I was saying this on first day Windows 10 was released, 5 years ago if I am not mistaked, and said that UWP and Store is Dead on Arrival Platform. And here we are...and for all those calling me names and saying I am stupid and this or that...oh well. The only thing which ever made sense on Windows is Win32/Win64 applications. I hope Microsoft kills 32bit flavor of Windows for good. Store, UWP Apps -> will all be removed from Windows. After that UI is next big thing Microsoft is going to redo. And then maybe they can reshape Windows to what truly Windows 7 successor should have been from day 1.2 points -

Russia says “nyet” to ProtonMail as it blocks the privacy-friendly e-mail provider
trag3dy and one other reacted to RejZoR for a topic
Exactly. Other services who will cooperate with the law on criminal activities That makes it sound like ProtonMail doesn't cooperate with law enforcement. Which is false. They cooperate all the time. But they can't cooperate for things that are out of their control, like encrypted e-mail messages. And if they do like Tutanota has, by intercepting messages that are not end to end encrypted prior to encrypted storage, then they can pretty much just close the service as it has no substance anymore. Also, thinking if everything is encrypted, it shouldn't exist coz muh terrorism/pedophiles/insert an excuse. Bad people will find a way to do their bad things. I, as a private law abiding citizen sure as ###### don't want my messages being monitored by anyone. If they believe I'm doing something illegal, find some other ######ing way. Which is how they get info on actual criminals, they just want to make it absurdly easy by just blatantly banning entire services...2 points -

Microsoft's Surface Hub 2X is reportedly delayed, and possibly canceled
JUANMAS7ER reacted to George P for a topic
The 2X had a new OS version, if you will, WCOS, it had a new UI and so on. Businesses in their typical snail pace and reluctance to change software their workers know how to use already, probably didn't want that. Like it says, they wanted the 2S but with a few specific things. That would make the 2X not needed at this time. The Hub is a very specific device for a specific business/education market. If that market isn't in a rush to buy a 2X 2020 model and are perfectly fine with the 2019 2S and just want some teams updates, then why force it to market?1 point -

Look at Zimmerman though, back with the EMH2, 3, 4, etc... he was furious that they ended up as slaves. Embarrassed even. He'd rather of died of a sickness than being treated by a disgraced program he created, Granted it's one thing to be upset that your creations ended up as slaves vs actually blowing up an entire planet in retribution.1 point -

I'd have to agree, however we've had those ethical subroutines deleted before, the doctor also has grown as an individual and also has the ability to modify his subroutines. He's also aligned himself with enemies before, assisted in abduction of Torres, while severely damaging Voyager, intentionally sickened someone when he was kidnapped, etc... I'm just saying it wouldn't be impossible, albeit highly unlikely.1 point -

I hope they weren't hacked by the secret section of the Tal Shiar (I'm not even going to attempt to spell it without looking at the closed caption), who apparently has hated synths and that hate being a bedrock of their org. It'd be predictable if they were ultimately the one behind the Mars attack in an attempt to end sentient synth development. The most obvious answer to me is Maddox flipped a switch on them. I have a feeling data's daughters didn't just happen upon Daystrom and a Borg Cube by chance, Maddox sent them there for tech recon and gathering I feel. Granted the synths on mars were treated like slaves/badly. I also remember the VOY episode that revolved around the photons be free concept, and how it spread to the other EMHs that were reprogrammed to be salves in dilithium mines, wonder if Zimmerman or the Doc had something to do with it, although that'd be a shocking twist. Doc has gone rogue before with the Hirogen holograms.1 point -

Microsoft is shutting down its Ad Monetization platform for UWP apps
MFH reacted to OldGuru for a topic
It's not that the PC needs store for apps, the platform needs a streamline method to stay profitable. If the app was a success it would have been easier for them to promote 10X and newer generation of platform easily. But the store was a mess and was more of a trouble than solution, so eventually it will wind down I guess. The platform does not need a streamline method to stay profitable. People buy PC Software from vendors directly. It is that simple. PC application library does need any kind of fix or platform for delivering apps, it never did. Valve has its Steam, Ubisoft has its uplay, Ea has its Origin, Adobe has its App to purchase and install software, Epic has its app, and so on. Microsoft Store is not needed and PC is not a mobile device. And as far as buying hardware from Microsoft Store, like anyone smart will ever do that next to Microcenter, Newegg, Best Buy and so on. I guess only Apple users will buy new junk called Mac Pro from Apple Store :D1 point -

Microsoft releases Windows 10 build 19555 to the Fast ring with fixes
shockz reacted to dustojnikhummer for a topic
20H1 had a update to it hit the slow ring back on the 14th of the month, build 19041.21. And fixing bugs and improving things like stability and performance is hardly nothing. You don't need 30 new features in each release. That's why I am saying 1903/1909/2004/20xx should have been only one release. No, there are some fairly significant under the hood changes between 1809-1903. 1909 as you know is very closely linked to 1903, they even share the same updates. 2004 again is a significant platform upgrade and quite a well needed one too. Yes there appear to be less new user facing features in recent builds but that’s the sign of a mature product, 1607 was probably the most significant change to date in terms of new features in a release. But doesn’t this just address what many people complained about anyway. Windows 10 is an operating system, no one ever asked for. It is time for Windows 10 to go away. It is 5+ years old and it is time for Microsoft to retire it for good and shoot for Windows 11 or just simply Windows. You are describing exactly what MS is doing.1 point -

domboy reacted to Darrian for a topic
I wanted this before the Surface Pro X was announced, and it is still mighty appealing, but it was supposedly going to be on the market by now, and it's disappointing that even now it's in a pre-order status. Idk if it will perform as well as the Surface Pro X (probably not), and I'm not sure even the SPX is at a performance level I would be happy with, but when I can walk into a Microsoft Store and play with it in person I'll be able to make a more informed decision. A big part of that decision will also be which carriers it can use for the LTE. If it is locked into a carrier then I will probably have to pass.1 point -

alex_d2w reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
Not everyone, just the US but yeah even everyone else could pay the price here because Huawei and many other companies in China will likely look for alternatives that are home grown. But the one that loses out the most here is the US and it's companies, by the US government playing political games, it's made it much harder for countries and companies around the world to trust using US tech and services in case the US plays games with them. Google should be worried about this because if Huawei makes a success of it which they likely with the size of its population and others around the world looking for alternative, Google is just the first to pay the price and likely won't be the last.1 point -

The word you're looking for is underpowered. Xbox One or PS4 are way more uninspired as they just follow the classic console model, while the convertible Switch is brought some innovation to the market. While the idea of a handheld that connects to the a dock and works with your TV is cool, it's not something I'd call "innovative". The Joy-con idea is innovative though so I'll give you that one. Quite more innovate than anything Sony or Microsoft have done in recent years. Microsoft did try with Kinect and making your Xbox the home media hub.....but look how that turned out.1 point -
