  2. Your Phone has been broken on my system for ages, I can't even remove a phone I no longer have, when I start to try and pair my note9 the Pixel 3 is added back, and I don't even have it anymore and it is removed from my devices in my Microsoft Account. Long live untested software! We are all beta testers! /s

  3. UWP is dead, period and this shutting down is the reason for it

  4. So, you're saying the Steam store is going to get shut down, too? I am saying that Microsoft Store has no future. Yea, but... your argument was that desktop environments don't benefit from stores at all. That would include game stores like Steam, etc. As a user, I like things about app stores, including that I can do one-click installs instead of going through a whole installation routine, and when I switch to a new computer, I can have everything automatically re-install instead of searching for every app I used site-by-site. I also don't like 15 different update managers working in the background, its better to have one. I also like access to a software database; before store platforms, people would just search sites like cnet or what have you. Yes, most stuff is crapware, like it is on phones, just less good stuff on the Microsoft store because they never got adoption, plus the MS store is just poorly implemented.

  5. I think you've not understood the article at all. The Microsoft Store is not closing down They will close it, they are already removing Store app from Windows for certain SKUs. It is coming. I doubt it will close, yes it may change from it's current form, but certainly won't close it UWP was boasted because you could develop for windows 10 mobile, windows 10 PC and xbox. W10M is dead, I haven't ever seen anything notable come from the xbox side so that just leaves the desktop version of windows. My experience of the MS store is it's full of crap, a lot of it. The store itself is awful, full of bugs and unreliable operation. Not saying they're going to scrap it but it is undoutably one of the least useful parts of windows 10. I just opened the store and it opened with a 'check your internet connection', I've had internet since I powered my laptop on hours ago, clicked refresh and it loaded, yet another bug... I then searched for the company I work for, it shows games and movies first, which is odd considering I searched for the company name - why doesn't it show any exact matches first? At the bottom are 3 applications, my company's application is last, the first two are some VR thing and a bible? The word is unique to my company. Honestly the worst store application I've ever used.

  6. Is it worth upgrading my build to an i7-9700K from i5-9600K?

Like I said... your mileage may vary - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-BX80684I79700K-I7-9700K-3-60GHZ-SKT1151-Noir/dp/B07HHN6KBZ I'm not trying to catch you out dude. Prices vary from region to region, god forbid anyone is trying to build a PC in Australia, Id have to remortgage my house

  10. The 2X had a new OS version, if you will, WCOS, it had a new UI and so on. Businesses in their typical snail pace and reluctance to change software their workers know how to use already, probably didn't want that. Like it says, they wanted the 2S but with a few specific things. That would make the 2X not needed at this time. The Hub is a very specific device for a specific business/education market. If that market isn't in a rush to buy a 2X 2020 model and are perfectly fine with the 2019 2S and just want some teams updates, then why force it to market?

  11. It's not that the PC needs store for apps, the platform needs a streamline method to stay profitable. If the app was a success it would have been easier for them to promote 10X and newer generation of platform easily. But the store was a mess and was more of a trouble than solution, so eventually it will wind down I guess. They wanted to be Apple/iOS and failed.

  13. Told you so. At some point in the past some idiot thought that PC needs store for apps. The only reason store was ever created for iPhone and later for Android Phones is due the nature of device itself and store made sense to do app deployment to such devices. Anything past that, as I said you have to be an idiot to think it is a good thing. I was saying this on first day Windows 10 was released, 5 years ago if I am not mistaked, and said that UWP and Store is Dead on Arrival Platform. And here we are...and for all those calling me names and saying I am stupid and this or that...oh well. The only thing which ever made sense on Windows is Win32/Win64 applications. I hope Microsoft kills 32bit flavor of Windows for good. Store, UWP Apps -> will all be removed from Windows. After that UI is next big thing Microsoft is going to redo. And then maybe they can reshape Windows to what truly Windows 7 successor should have been from day 1.

With prices like that, no wonder that AMD is outselling Intel by 6:1

  15. Is it worth upgrading my build to an i7-9700K from i5-9600K?

Yes they tend to hold their price far better than other components, but they do come down.. ANYWAY my decision has been made, instead of a CPU upgrade I ordered an NVIDIA Shield (2019) because I am fed up of constant streaming issues with Plex on my Xbox One X, which even Microsoft Devs have confirmed as a bug multiple times but they keep pushing new builds that break it. From one evening to the next after my Xbox seemingly updated I can no longer stream 1080p content without it buffering every 5 mins. My setup is fine, the Plex app on Xbox isn't.

  17. In a decade we'll all be docking our android and iOS devices into a hub if we need a larger screen and keyboard. Or if by Linux, you mean Chromebooks, sure, otherwise no. Microsoft has been a services company, and outside of last year, the continuing dwindling of pc sales is only more writing on the wall. Outside of Enterprise and gamers who don't want a console, Windows will be an after thought for most people. You know this, we know this, they know this, subscriptions for Office365 and Azure will be what drives them forward. I am seeing more and more customers I support opting for an iPad Pro or a Chromebook. I've also migrated to an iPad Pro and sync via iCloud and OneDrive and honestly haven't needed to use my desktop since I've purchased it. Putting that all aside, Windows 10 in 2030 will no doubt be as refined and as advanced then as it is now, but only used in corporate environments, and probably as a legacy system or IT. Maybe in a decade we'll finally only have one Control Panel. lol We won't be docking Android cause that Android device won't have 64 core ThreadRipper in it. PC is not going away in fact it will make some other devices obsolete. Nice strawman you built there. He didn’t say the PC was going away. He was pointing at the dwindling demand For most consumers and there is factual evidence to support it.

You just pre-empted my suggestion of the 9900, not worth the leap for the performance difference! In day to day you probably wouldnt notice much of a difference at all. Intel will have new chips out this year so grab a 9900k once the new chips are out for a discount

Thanks guys.. I might max out this board later this year with an i9-9900K if those prices come down, seems it would be better to wait for that 😛

  21. [Official] Doctor Who Thread

It could be an alternate dimension thing like they did with the new Star Trek movies. The new female might be the doctor, but that doesn't mean the little boy wasn't the real doctor too. This new doctor might just be a form before the original first doctor. Who knows how many regenerations the doctor may have actually had at this point? Remember the Master did say that everything the Doctor knows is really a lie. Although the Master might not be telling the truth. So out of character, I know.

It's probably not worth it going by cost alone but if you were to turn around and sell the 9600k to further mitigate the price then maybe.

Not quite yet, there is at least one more movie that has been announced already. My only hope is that now that both Bloodshot and F&F9 are done that Vin Diesel will finally get to make the next Riddick movie.

  26. And it using the phone's background is surprising *why*? Don't all other such apps (linking to another device) use the linked device's background? (It has certainly been the case for me, going back to Windows NT.)

  33. "Still, it's a major blow for those on the "UWP isn't dead" side of the argument. Over the last couple of years, Microsoft has been focusing on its Universal Windows Platform less and less, with a renewed emphasis on Win32." Well, sadly this isn't going far enough - UWP is dead, to Microsoft - but so is Windows, Win32 and all. There's been no emphasis or development of Win32, it's just in maintenance mode. Nadella has declared that he does not see Windows as a core part of the future of Microsoft. There is or has been denial with people who claim UWP isn't dead, it is dead - but that's just not going far enough. Windows is dead, as much as Cortana and everything else that Microsoft doesn't see as a core part of the company going forward.

  43. That’s not what this does. If it usually takes your house 20 minutes to drop 2 degrees when the AC turns on, and then gradually takes 23, 25, 30, etc.... it’s supposed to alarm you and indicate their may be a problem. Easier to nip things early as opposed to having the entire thing fail.
