  1. Skagen Falster 3: The most beautiful Wear OS smartwatch

But aside from things like specs.... Isn't the entire review just one big opinion?

  2. So, you're saying the Steam store is going to get shut down, too? I am saying that Microsoft Store has no future.

  3. I think you've not understood the article at all. The Microsoft Store is not closing down They will close it, they are already removing Store app from Windows for certain SKUs. It is coming. I doubt it will close, yes it may change from it's current form, but certainly won't close it UWP was boasted because you could develop for windows 10 mobile, windows 10 PC and xbox. W10M is dead, I haven't ever seen anything notable come from the xbox side so that just leaves the desktop version of windows. My experience of the MS store is it's full of crap, a lot of it. The store itself is awful, full of bugs and unreliable operation. Not saying they're going to scrap it but it is undoutably one of the least useful parts of windows 10. I just opened the store and it opened with a 'check your internet connection', I've had internet since I powered my laptop on hours ago, clicked refresh and it loaded, yet another bug... I then searched for the company I work for, it shows games and movies first, which is odd considering I searched for the company name - why doesn't it show any exact matches first? At the bottom are 3 applications, my company's application is last, the first two are some VR thing and a bible? The word is unique to my company. Honestly the worst store application I've ever used.

  5. It's not that the PC needs store for apps, the platform needs a streamline method to stay profitable. If the app was a success it would have been easier for them to promote 10X and newer generation of platform easily. But the store was a mess and was more of a trouble than solution, so eventually it will wind down I guess. The platform does not need a streamline method to stay profitable. People buy PC Software from vendors directly. It is that simple. PC application library does need any kind of fix or platform for delivering apps, it never did. Valve has its Steam, Ubisoft has its uplay, Ea has its Origin, Adobe has its App to purchase and install software, Epic has its app, and so on. Microsoft Store is not needed and PC is not a mobile device. And as far as buying hardware from Microsoft Store, like anyone smart will ever do that next to Microcenter, Newegg, Best Buy and so on. I guess only Apple users will buy new junk called Mac Pro from Apple Store :D

  6. Told you so. At some point in the past some idiot thought that PC needs store for apps. The only reason store was ever created for iPhone and later for Android Phones is due the nature of device itself and store made sense to do app deployment to such devices. Anything past that, as I said you have to be an idiot to think it is a good thing. I was saying this on first day Windows 10 was released, 5 years ago if I am not mistaked, and said that UWP and Store is Dead on Arrival Platform. And here we are...and for all those calling me names and saying I am stupid and this or that...oh well. The only thing which ever made sense on Windows is Win32/Win64 applications. I hope Microsoft kills 32bit flavor of Windows for good. Store, UWP Apps -> will all be removed from Windows. After that UI is next big thing Microsoft is going to redo. And then maybe they can reshape Windows to what truly Windows 7 successor should have been from day 1.

  7. Trouble with MakeMKV ripping blu-rays ... discs or drive?

Have you not tried updating the drive firmware? It's always worth trying before definitely pointing the finger or spending any money. This can resolve issues reading certain discs, especially when new copy protections come out

  8. Is it worth upgrading my build to an i7-9700K from i5-9600K?

You'll love it, its own built in plex server is nice and smooth. I rarely watch terrestrial tv anymore I just stream everything oh and while it's still free in beta, geforce stream gaming is way way better than stadia too!

  9. Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.7

Restore Defaults option is no longer available That right there is a reason not to use one of these tools, which is why I removed Debotnet after just 1 try. By the time you went through the whole list of things you can disable, you'd never remember which one it was that may have caused an issue after applying. I'll continue with my own manually applied tweaks, which I haven't really applied very many of.

  10. Microsoft is shutting down its Ad Monetization platform for UWP apps

Pretty much everything Sinofsky touched turned to sheet. Its like he was a trojan horse to kill Microsoft. Trying to dumb down and shoehorn a GREAT desktop operating system platform, onto a 4" touch screen device was plain madness, and yes "I told you so" too! Opinion aside, let us at least untangle your arguments. Sinofsky hated WP, hated tablets and didn't care for touch either. He and Ballmer had a similar mindset. Sinofsky is who gutted the touch and tablet features from Office and stagnated the Win7 touch features, which were supposed to be a large focus after Vista. If it wasn't for the Surface hardware showcase technologies, Windows 8 would have offered nothing much new for touch. Even the touch technologies added to Win8 are almost a duct tape implementation, breaking the previous 'new' Win7 touch/input drivers, and creating an addition touch overlay that didn't work with the existing frameworks or technologies. This was a massive mistake. So you can't blame Sinofsky for small devices or touch, as he was the one sabotaging them. I do agree, he was a freaking idiot, as the original UWP (WinRT) platform was to include the Phone technologies along with desktop integration APIs. Instead he locked out the WP team, and rolled over desktop developers. WinRT on Win 8 sucked as a mobile API and sucked as a Desktop API. At the very least it could have at least mimicked the Phone framework and ran Phone Apps. Sinofsky also left App development for Win8 to the XBox App team, which is another reason Apps in Win8 were limited and horrible. As for Windows running on a 4" device, it works well. Windows is still lighter than Android on devices. And remember this is the full version of Windows 10 compared to a mobile OS, with Android even consuming more RAM to this day. People also forget that WP and WM received tons of UI and design awards. It works, and is still nearly far ahead of what we now have on Android and iOS. The entire framework was GPU accelerated at the lowest layers, where iOS and Android slap on some GPU acceleration on top of their frameworks. WP also influence iOS and Android a lot, from the simplistic Metro design, to many UI contexts; Apple even designed their multitasking and isolation models based on how WP worked. Windows on a Phone or other tablets was a good idea, even if it faced Apple and Google antics and Microsoft not firing Ballmer and Sinofsky sooner. Moving forward from today... The desktop UI needs the UI technologies from UWP, that is all that was necessary for software to run on any size device with any screen size and resolution. Back when iOS and Android and other popular frameworks could barely scale, UWP was scaling and flowing and automatically adjusting to any device. UWP is not going anywhere; however, it and desktop are being rolled together with WinUI 3.0 being separated and working seamless with any framework. As for Windows Store, even if it changes from how it exists today, at the very least it will exist as a repository and distribution technology, which potentially could even become multiplatform. Even the corporate App changes already in place from Microsoft still provide distribution. As for the Ad system being removed, Microsoft has provided and allowed 3rd party advertising technologies for Apps for many years now, and Microsoft has been pulling out of direct Advertising ever since they fired Ballmer. There used to be a large Ad infrastructure for Bing and MSN that are essentially gone or dead now. The Store advertising platform is one of the final pieces to be turned off. (The developers complaining have a 'tiny' point, but unlike Google or Apple, they are NOT locked into Microsoft to make money from Ads, they have been able to use 3rd parties for several years now.)

  11. Yay! Microsoft gets to check all the data on the phone and store it somewhere, using their junky phone beta app which is a steaming pile of garbage. The constant bugs and issues on Windows as a whole is pathetic. This is what happens when they cheap out and scrap their QA department. They release junk and get you all to test it for them for free. Sorry, but ever since Windows 8, Microsoft has just kept going downhill. Glad I moved to BSD & Linux.

  13. Microsoft is shutting down its Ad Monetization platform for UWP apps

What took them so long? What was the point of ads without an audience? The failure of the windows store is inevitable. With minimal interest from developers/advertisers/consumers - how much more proof do you need to see the end of the windows store?

  16. Is it worth upgrading my build to an i7-9700K from i5-9600K?

Yeah I am looking forward to just being able to throw content at it, Plex on Xbox is rubbish, the settings menu crashes and can only be recovered by force quitting the app and the reopening it, so that along with all the streaming bugs is doing my head in. My TV is actually an Android TV but the Plex app on that does not pass through Dolby Atmos/digital properly to my receiver so I can't even default to using that. I'm also going to do this for my Xbox One S upstairs in my bedroom, since that trick works for non HDR content (no good for the Xbox One X 4K setup). Copying for reference: Install Kodi on your Xbox One Launch Kodi, goto addons; search for Plex and install Plex Run Plex Addon In Plex settings enable X265 In Plex settings set remote quality to original Set Plex addon to run at Kodi startup.

  17. Is it worth upgrading my build to an i7-9700K from i5-9600K?

Yes they tend to hold their price far better than other components, but they do come down.. ANYWAY my decision has been made, instead of a CPU upgrade I ordered an NVIDIA Shield (2019) because I am fed up of constant streaming issues with Plex on my Xbox One X, which even Microsoft Devs have confirmed as a bug multiple times but they keep pushing new builds that break it. From one evening to the next after my Xbox seemingly updated I can no longer stream 1080p content without it buffering every 5 mins. My setup is fine, the Plex app on Xbox isn't.

Is this a non-sequitur or do you simply not realize the Store has nothing to do with UWP. Win32 apps are distributed in the Store as well. The Store is never going away. If they are converting the store to a package manager so be it, but by having no ad platform means freeware uwp is dead which was the original purpose False. They can transition to another ad platform. This is but one.

Your Phone has been broken on my system for ages, I can't even remove a phone I no longer have, when I start to try and pair my note9 the Pixel 3 is added back, and I don't even have it anymore and it is removed from my devices in my Microsoft Account. Long live untested software! We are all beta testers! /s

Way better integration. For example directions on the lock screen. The voice is also much better than any of the others. I tend to use Waze though, mostly for speed traps.

  32. Microsoft is shutting down its Ad Monetization platform for UWP apps

Without Windows Mobile, UWP is a pointless platform. The goal was to have a unified system for developers to build apps that would run on any Windows device, regardless of format. The UWP UI toolkit is still pretty basic compared to the wealth of WinForms & WPF control available on the market, so developers had to take a step backwards when designing their interfaces. Without mobile devices - since DUO runs Android, it doesn't count and NEO will still run Win32 applications - there is no incentive to use UWP aside from Store distribution. NEO is designed for UWP, but that won't revive it as a platform of choice. If Windows Mobile survived and was viable, then sure, UWP makes sense, but in the current environment, I think more developers will give up on it and go back to traditional desktop application toolkits.

Not really. You'll be missing a few newer features, but apps and other stuff should offer the same experience on both. I still have 9 on my OnePlus 6 and it's still going along just perfectly.

Yes, very much so. why? you write that now if it were updated, not likely....! My views of IE have and always will be the same, it's a POS. You were probably too young during the IE5/6 days to remember the mess it made of the web. That's ok, if he wasn't around for it then. People just have to look to Chrome to see how Google is looking to repeat the same cycle.

  41. is android 8 (oreo) or android 9 (pie) outdated?

Doesn't matter if Sony is, if your carrier isn't. That's part of what sucks about Android. Most phones don't get over 2 years support from the carriers. That's 2 years on the phone's age, not Androids age.
