If they would do that on Youtube, I'd be pleased.

  4. I have yet to experience any UWP application that have been working better than it's Win32 application on any of my Windows desktops. Sure there hasn't been that many, but I have tried to use some but they have all failed to provide me with a good experience: Skype (UWP) compared to Skype (Win32). The GUI just doesn't fit desktop use, everything took up way too much space to make much sense for me on a desktop. The Win32 app just had better optimised GUI for desktop use. Didn't use it for long as I moved away from Skype completely. Microsoft Edge (EdgeHTML/UWP) vs Chromium (Win32). I did actually enjoy the look and feel of Microsoft Edge and it's smooth scrolling. But that was pretty much it. Barely any extensions and the few that I used worked horribly compared to Chromium. Rendering issues, the entire browser would lock-up, randomly close and whatnot. Not a great experience other than it's look and feel. OneNote (UWP) vs OneNote 2016. Perhaps the UWP-app I used the most. But I pretty much used it simply because Microsoft claimed that the Win32 was end-of-life and wouldn't receive any meaningful updates or features. The UWP-app worked okay, but having proofing directly tied with your Windows Settings is horrible for people like me who prefer to have everything displayed in English, but I type in Norwegian. It often had sync issues so I had to just disconnect my Microsoft Account and start all over again for sync to work. I started to get used to it but moved back to OneNote 2016 when Microsoft did yet another turn-around and announced that the Win32 application will the one getting development going forward. And man, as soon as I was back using OneNote 2016 I began to understand how inferior the UWP had really been. There is just nothing with the UWP-version that I find superior.

  10. Netflix begins streaming AV1 content on its Android mobile app

You encode once and stream a billion times, so the question is rather irrelevant. The volume is so big that even a few percent savings on network bandwidth means huge savings on costs.

  11. Not really surprising, AMD is destroying intel in every segment of the market at the moment. They just need to pull the same thing they did to intel with nvidia as they have lagged with GPU for too long now.

  12. There are some published results online, and most of them seem fairly accurate to what we have found. The speed is often in the margin of error, with Edge besting Chrome most of the time. Chrome has a tiny <1% win in javascript tests, but this is expected as Microsoft adds additional security that Chrome doesn't. As many expected, network usage is lower in Edge, as Chrome sends a ton of encrypted data back to Google, still around 1.5-2GB per week for an average non-cellular user. As with EdgeHTML, Edge does better with Battery, CPU, and can be dramatically better with Memory use in lower memory systems. (Sub 2GB RAM) As most people can see, Edge Chromium performs much better than EdgeHTML on actual sites, due to web developers using Chromium specific code or shoving old IE code to EdgeHTML. Reconstructing similar sites locally, and properly sending the same content as standards, EdgeHTML is faster most of the time. But not enough on modern systems. The painful area is on older, slower systems, where Chromium is a pig in comparison. I'm curious what other users are finding with various tests.

  13. No suprise there. The old edge may render faster but the frequent bugs, crashes, missing features, horrid big UI for desktop and slow updates made it a non starter from day 1 for most people. Seems win32 beat UWP again in usability, stability and speed.

Maybe he'll have the authority, and the budget, to bring back testing by QA engineers on real hardware, instead of the coders themselves using virtual machines.

HR rules vary by company but in my experience, managers aren't usually permitted to share that type of information beforehand to their direct reports. That's not to say they always abide by the rules but most do.

After that bait-n-switch they did on Steam, they can choke on a bag of d's! They took Fortnight money, used Steam to build free advertisement, and then jumped ship....I don't pirate, but I hear the fitgirl release was great

  26. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra real-life photos show massive camera hump

I mean, most people have some kind of case, or silicone cover, so it really isn't going to affect us... Case designs will most likely be tweaked in thickness in order to keep the camera from poking out far enough to cause damage to itself due to the bump. Just sayin... It's a problem that some people will experience... But for those of us who are smart enough to use a case, it's a non-issue.

  28. Surface chief Panos Panay is now leading both hardware and Windows

W10 could sure do with some design sense whats wrong with the windows 10 UI? It looks great with true color, monochromatic, and single color icons... along with flat windows that have no color, but have a color title bar if you want and may or may not have a icon on the left... and multiple context menu styles makes it easier to tell where they did and did not upgrade... and the mix of old and new property windows is amazing... oh and that universal app design of the control panel... amazing, having half the functionality but taking up 3x the space is a great design. that's obvisouly sarcasim... but besides the obvious design issues... windows 10 for me at least works great, I just wish we would pick one darn UI that isn't monochromatic... metro style was horrible and still is horrible... we need depth and color

  32. I have so much respect for Phil Spenser but he is wrong and so is the author of this article: no it hasn’t and in fact if you just see the factual numbers Nintendo has been the most successful despite not having any cloud backend. Hardware will play a big role because fast internet infrastructure is not even close to what it should be for cloud streaming therefore services like google stadia is failing miserably unless a breakthrough comes along on global high speed internet connectivity. I personally play the most on the plane or hotel and that makes services like Apple Arcade or devices like Nintendo switch the best choices and believe these are the future of gaming. Consoles and PC games will always be there of course for hard core gamers

  35. That's not entirely true. Most apps use Google Services API's and such that are only available when licensed by Google. There is a lot more to most apps in the back-end than UI and such. Developers will certainly need to maintain 2 versions/branches of each app. Same things with Amazon's App Store - yes it's Android but it's not just submitting apps to the store.

  40. Microscopic molecular reactions happen with great speed. Consider that humans process thoughts, images, and sounds by way of electrical and chemical processes in the brain. And those even involve chemicals having to physically travel across the gap between neurons. The reactions in these experiments are much simpler and probably a great deal faster. And to top it off, the links between these points are made with light rather than electricity.

  42. what? GeForce Now uses a server install of steam so it has to download the game to that server if it hasn't already. it has nothing to do with what games are installed where on your on computer. Check by yourself.... check what? nothing gets installed on your local machine outside of the Geforce Now client. it's all server side streaming. you don't even need Steam installed on your computer.

  43. Surface chief Panos Panay is now leading both hardware and Windows

The goal of the surface line is doing what it was set out to do, not take over the market but show it's OEM partners what to do. As far as that goes they're always going to price themselves higher, and they're not going to put every bell and whistle on each device, let the OEMs do that.

  45. So the main points are: expensive, lies on battery life, USB performance is pathetic and actually unknown (still not sure if it's 10Gbps or 5Gbps), cheap tacky hardware and low performance. Well that just sums up the entire surface line in a nutshell...

  48. The New Me.

This month marks 11 years since seeing that NASTY overweight Christmas photo of myself and embarking on a personal weight loss journey! After seeing the photo I practically made a V line to Walmart and purchased an exercise bike. When I first told my parents, I bought an exercise bike and that "I'm going to ride it 20 mins every day" their response was typical of anyone hearing that, which was akin to “ok whatever you say”. I ended up riding that bike for 20 mins a day (usually in the morning) for about 1.5 years. I remember riding the bike during almost every episode of “Battle Star Galactica”. Something else I watched while on the bike was an internet show called “Dignation”. It was kind of depressing because for the first week I saw no change ☹. But then slowly but sure the weight slowly dropped. Then around July 5th, 2011 I retired the bike and started walking 3.6 miles every day. I’m proud that I only missed 3 days! 1 for the flu (still walked the next day feeling like crap), 1 for an ice storm and 1 for Christmas. There were times I got home late and would do my 3.6-mile walk at 11pm – 12am. Before losing weight, I had a REALLY BAD eating habit! To give you an idea for how bad it really was, for dinner I would have hot dogs and for supper, I would have a jack’s pizza and for a snack, I would eat a bag of corn chips while watching TV. When I was my heaviest, I remember weighing myself and seeing 220 on the scale and not really caring. (At least not until the photo) My primary goal was 179lb. With all the bike riding and all the walking, the best I could do was 182lbs. Then after listing to a podcast about “Low carb” I gave it a shot. The first week while walking and doing low carb I got to my lowest of 180lbs. It was only a month or so, that I blew past 179 down into the 160’s. Then in 2018, I tried low carb again while helping someone lose weight and dropped into the 150s where I’m currently at today. I’m no longer low carb, but more of what I like to call “Lower carb”. That just means I don’t go out of my way to eat carbs but I don’t totally ignore them either. I was trying to think when the last time I went out solo to a fast food joint that had a drive-through was. My best guess is 2007 (Even then I walked in) If I made losing weight sound effortless and easy, I apologize. If there is one thing you take away from this story, take away this, It's hard, requires dedication and you have to be ready to change your eating lifestyle for the REST OF YOUR LIFE! People who do not wish to change their lifestyle will lose weight, but will more than likely gain it all back. When I'm home I have a salad almost every day for lunch. I weigh myself, Usually, twice a day (Might be a little overkill but it's what works for me) I weigh in the morning when I wake up and at supper. At supper time and depending on what I weigh, the weight will dictate what I will allow myself to eat. I'm very proud that I have been able to keep the weight off for 11 years. (and counting!)

  50. The New Me.

I'm approaching 11 YEARS since my weight loss journey began! Don't let anyone tell you that losing weight is easy, it’s not. It takes effort and a lot of it! It’s MUCH easier to never put it on than it is to take it back off. Once you lose the weight, keeping it off is a lifelong commitment! One more thing. Never be ashamed of your fat pics! Don't hate them and never look at them ever again. Embrace them!! Use them as a reminder of someone you never want to be again.
