White House rubbishes the idea that the U.S. will take control of Nokia and Ericsson
dustojnikhummer and 2 others reacted to ad47uk for a topic
Nokia is Finnish, the Nokia name have been licensed to HMD for phones only as far as i know. this story makes sense for why Trump do not want the Uk to use Huawie for 5G, he wants to get some control over it, nothing to do with security at all. but then we knew this all along, it is about getting U.S companies into our network, the thing is why should we trust them any more than Chinese?3 points -

It's always the same parties that cry against "Socialism"", call their opponents Communists, yet want their governments to own more assets in the public's name (here in Australia, some far right nutters in our government want us to build or buy coal fired power plants). What about this "free market" stuff I keep hearing about. Maybe the free market doesn't work after all.2 points -

Whish is why it is "hypocritical" as stated in the article. That said, are Finland and Sweden not allies? They are, but do you want the NSA that bit more wrapped up in the wires you talk over If you don't want the NSA wrapped up are you ok with China then? I mean if the idea of state owned tech not being secure is the issue then why are some people so quick to give Huawei a pass when it's clearly in part owned by the Chinese gov itself? I would much rather be on China's side then the US if those were the only options! Right, because China is way better than the US? lol.2 points -

Having replaceable batteries would have prevented the problems arising from battery degradation. With Apple's pricing points, their phones can hardly be considered as disposable when the battery dies. At least Europe has gotten a long lead on punishing companies for bad behavior. Pity, the US refuses to do the same.2 points -

There are two Nokia's here. There is the network side (which is Finnish) and the phone side (HMD Global) which is PRC-owned. There is also a PRC phone-network company that also owns HMD Global; that is the lashup that is causing the concerns. ad47uk - are you are you NOT arguing in favor of the latter due to cost/price issues?1 point -

In case you haven't read the post, Trump wants NO PART of the idea! I don't blame him one bit, as the idea itself goes against the structure of American business operations (I hate the idea for exactly that reason). Still (and this is something I have brought up in the original post in which the idea was exposed) the issue of competing with nationalized (read - PRC-owned) businesses with technically infinite resources in the marketplace still stands. (My first exposure to the ugly idea merely as FICTION ("Logic of Empire") didn't deal with it at all - and - so far - neither has anything else; in fact, I have seen a rather disturbing trend in a lot of nations - including the United States - when confronted with it - and it showed up in "Logic of Empire" as well - if you can't beat it, surrender to it.1 point -

Hello, I find myself in agreeance with @ZipZapRap. These seems a bit like socialism to me. Shouldn't telecom companies be allowed to decide through the free market what sort of telecom infrastructure they want? Governments can then decide whether or not they want to use those companies' services. And if they don't, no doubt a robust competition will appear with competing telecom infrastructure to carry the bits through non-Huawei gear. All through the magic of free enterprise! I would much rather be on China's side then the US if those were the only options! Let's see, in the last year, China's openly detained their own people to "re-educate" them in mass numbers. They utilize facial recognition and a multitude of other tools to find and detain them, along with anyone they deem an enemy of the state. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/res...s/idt-sh/China_hidden_camps https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-48130048 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-50587098 They've aimed to extradite citizens of Hong Kong they name as "criminal" to mainland China, where you can imagine any sort of fair trial to go out the window, leading to massive protests of 800,000+ citizens. Many corrupt police figures and abuse that's been mentioned globally. https://www.hongkongfp.com/201...cracy-march-say-organisers/ Censorship recently of the coronavirus plaguing China, with massive open criticism by their citizens. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/0...leblower-doctors-death.html Take your pick man, there's no source on the left or right that's going to assume spying by China is ideal. In fact, there's a reason why the Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, etc. aren't very fond of the Chinese government, and it has zero to do with US propaganda. China has made a name for themselves and continues to do so. None of that is in any sort of way to condone abuses of power by the US, UK, Germany, and so on, but it's important to remember that these countries allow you much more freedom than the other.1 point -

unloaded chunks save the items to the chunk, they don't remain in memory once the chunk is unloaded, thats why when you die you have infinite time to collect your items if you respawn far away. only when you reload the chunk does the 5 min despawn timer continue. The server works lag free internationally too, from the US to Europe. those in Australia will always get some lag due to their location, its not based on the items on the ground trust me. me and crisp used to have fun in the deserts and the server still ran fine after 80,000 tnt leaves sand everywhere The only problem the server has issues with, is when everybody goes off generating chunks at he same time every time those in us/uk complain of lag is usually after patch Tuesday and that became more of an issue recently because the OS drive was full causing it to fail installing a few times and thats what took it down and Timan had to rescue it. (I cleared out the downloads folder so it shouldn't fail anytime soon)1 point -

It's more about maintaining the integrity of the file during transit. A person, organization, or government that controls (or has compromised) any link in the network through which a file travels can change said file at will. Such attacks can be done by scammers looking to infect as many machines as possible. But they can also be done in a more targeted fashion (based on the file or the destination address) by rival governments or corporations.1 point -

UPDATE: on my ASUS WL-520gU router I just noticed that FreshTomato 2020.1 reset the uptime after about 6 days. I am currently running a recent build of DD-WRT (r41686(Dec 10th 2019)) and I am going to see if that works better as I figure if I can get a couple of weeks (maybe a month tops) out of it, chances are DD-WRT is fine. if not, ill see if the Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 fairs any better once I replace the capacitors in it soon which ill likely be doing sometime next week.1 point -

It was one way, the 2nd part of his statement said you get a group of private companies to do it, either way if you're looking to help EU telco companies to compete, it's a valid argument when on the other side China pumps loads of gov money into it's own local companies. Personally you could just give them big gov contracts and pay them well for the equipment to, that's always a option.1 point -
