And those bezels make it look out of place next to modern high end mobile devices. But I guess that's true for all the foldable devices so far Bezels could be a little bit thinner, but honestly, going edge to edge with screen is the last thing I'd want to see, as it often means the production of hole-punch cameras or notches, coupled with bad ergonomics.2 points -
White House rubbishes the idea that the U.S. will take control of Nokia and Ericsson
FunkyMike and one other reacted to PGHammer for a topic
Nokia is Finnish, the Nokia name have been licensed to HMD for phones only as far as i know. this story makes sense for why Trump do not want the Uk to use Huawie for 5G, he wants to get some control over it, nothing to do with security at all. but then we knew this all along, it is about getting U.S companies into our network, the thing is why should we trust them any more than Chinese? There are two Nokia's here. There is the network side (which is Finnish) and the phone side (HMD Global) which is PRC-owned. There is also a PRC phone-network company that also owns HMD Global; that is the lashup that is causing the concerns. ad47uk - are you are you NOT arguing in favor of the latter due to cost/price issues?2 points -

I've had swiping issues with my Galaxy S10e. The only phone I never had swiping issues with was iPhone. This this and a million times this... I moved to iPhone from WP back in iPhone 4 days and since then iPhone app quality and speed have degraded significantly compared to newer cheaper android phones i've used like the Pixel or OnePlus... but still, if I touch on the iPhone there is no feedback latency and hardly ever any miss-taps... dont know if its the digitizer or software, but android/microsoft needs to copy whatever it is to make the OS seem more responsive... that is the only thing that keeps me from moving away from the iphone1 point -

The VPs comments above are talking about the US networks specifically. Not the UK or Europe, but this does raise the question. If you have a more local option like Nokia and Ericsson why not support them and why in the heck are you thinking about going all in with Huawei? There's no issue of control here, they're not saying use US hardware, they're saying use your own EU hardware instead. Where do you get the idea that they want to control it exactly? It's like, if this was back in the 80s and the USSR was still around, if the UK decided to buy Russian telco hardware you think the US wouldn't be like, "dude, hold on, why not buy this Finnish Nokia stuff instead that we can trust better?"1 point -

Whish is why it is "hypocritical" as stated in the article. That said, are Finland and Sweden not allies? They are, but do you want the NSA that bit more wrapped up in the wires you talk over If you don't want the NSA wrapped up are you ok with China then? I mean if the idea of state owned tech not being secure is the issue then why are some people so quick to give Huawei a pass when it's clearly in part owned by the Chinese gov itself? I would much rather be on China's side then the US if those were the only options! Let's see, in the last year, China's openly detained their own people to "re-educate" them in mass numbers. They utilize facial recognition and a multitude of other tools to find and detain them, along with anyone they deem an enemy of the state. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/res...sh/China_hidden_camps" rel="external nofollow">https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/res.../idt-sh/China_hidden_camps" rel="external nofollow">https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/res...s/idt-sh/China_hidden_camps https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-48130048" rel="external nofollow">https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-48130048" rel="external nofollow">https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-48130048 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-50587098" rel="external nofollow">https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-50587098" rel="external nofollow">https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-50587098 They've aimed to extradite citizens of Hong Kong they name as "criminal" to mainland China, where you can imagine any sort of fair trial to go out the window, leading to massive protests of 800,000+ citizens. In fact, there's a reason why the Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, etc. aren't very fond of the Chinese government, and it has zero to do with US propaganda. China has made a name for themselves and continues to do so. None of that is in any sort of way to condone abuses of power by the US, UK, Germany, and so on, but it's important to remember that these countries allow you much more freedom than the other. The US is literally doing the same things at its Southern border, though, just not with its own citizens. And while China sensors its critics, the US just lies about it outright despite it being *very* obvious not being true... China is a horrible country, but picking between China and the US is just trying to pick the lesser of 2 evils, assuming even 1 of them is, which I quiet frankly am not sure about at this point. If you're talking about detaining immigrants trying to get into the US then while the situation and containment might be terrible, it's not like the US is the only country to stop people at it's border, hold them, process, and then either let them in or send them back. The same stuff happens in Europe with loads of people trying to get in from Syria etc, when thousands keep showing up day after day what do you expect? There are camps all over the place were people are held in pretty much tents or shipping containers till they can get processed. This is going on for years but it's interesting that people will latch on to what the US does specifically but neglect the rest of the world. But if you have set in your head that the US is the big bad evil Satan and the rest of the world is good, well I can't do much for you.1 point -

I mean if the idea of state owned tech not being secure is the issue then why are some people so quick to give Huawei a pass when it's clearly in part owned by the Chinese gov itself? I would much rather be on China's side then the US if those were the only options! Right, because China is way better than the US? lol. Remind us again how many countries has China invaded and obliterated? In Iraq alone well over a million people are dead and several million more have no prospect of a future because their countries have been completely obliterated and all based on the lies sold to the world by the US government! Over the last 40 years China has brought nearly 800 million people out of extreme poverty in the country, the US on the other hand had saw the number of people living bellow the poverty line and it's homeless population increase to over 40 million! So yeah, China might not be the bastion of freedom nor perfect but they're not going around destroying other countries to steal their resources! Obliterated? Maybe not, but have they ever invaded someone else, yes. Tibet? While maybe not a "country" it wasn't and still isn't in my opinion Chinas to begin with. It crossed into India back in 1962 trying to expand it's borders, which it likes to do from time to time incase you haven't noticed. They also invaded Vietnam in 1979 just to stick it to the Russians and once again try to expand it's territory. You know, you ever sit back and wonder exactly why no other Southeast Asian country likes China at all? It's also pretty clear India doesn't like them, let alone Japan but that's rooted in WWII. Though to this day they're trying to grab more territory which helps keep them and Japan at each others necks. And as far as resources goes, there's other ways to get them be it under the table deals with corrupt govs or through proxies. All the big countries do this, China as well, they're buddy buddy with some pretty messed up governments in Africa but of course no one cares too much because it's Africa after all.1 point -

dead.cell reacted to PGHammer for a topic
In case you haven't read the post, Trump wants NO PART of the idea! I don't blame him one bit, as the idea itself goes against the structure of American business operations (I hate the idea for exactly that reason). Still (and this is something I have brought up in the original post in which the idea was exposed) the issue of competing with nationalized (read - PRC-owned) businesses with technically infinite resources in the marketplace still stands. (My first exposure to the ugly idea merely as FICTION ("Logic of Empire") didn't deal with it at all - and - so far - neither has anything else; in fact, I have seen a rather disturbing trend in a lot of nations - including the United States - when confronted with it - and it showed up in "Logic of Empire" as well - if you can't beat it, surrender to it.1 point -
