  5. Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.7.1

Be cautious with this. I am not a fan of their website or this particular tweaker as I had a bad experience. Many of the tweaks on The Windows Club are flat out wrong or don't work. And the tweaker is the same - sometimes causes irreversible damage by tweaking wrong settings. They don't know what they are doing - sort of like amateur developers. Instead I would recommend Winaero Tweaker which is very reliable and safe.

  6. Firefox 75 Nightly comes with lazy loading flag for images and iframes

In the age of broadband communications and high performance computing, lazy loading is not worth it. Actually, I find it annoying when things pop out of nowhere into view while I scroll a web page, not to mention that some times due to badly implemented lazy loading solutions things never show up.

  10. Valve's VR exclusive Half-Life: Alyx releases on March 23

And that is exactly the point. Half Life Alyx pushed me to finally buy a headset and I'm not regretting it. It would not make any sense if HLA was not a VR-only title. well, no one played the game, so we have no idea about how good the gameplay actually is and if it can translate into non-VR controller / mouse-kb play. if it can be transitioned, i would think Valve or modders, will release non-VR version once the hype over the game dies down. I'm sure of that. And I think it will show exactly why there is not a 2D version of Alyx. Just like Boneworks would not work outside of VR. But I still hope we get another 2D Half Life title.

  13. Do you own one? Had one for about a month. Wasn't worth the price for me. Battery life was bad for me and the storage capacity was another inconvenience when trying to take a lot of pictures and videos for my trip. I also didnt like the fact that the face unlock didnt require eyes to be open (Not sure if this was ever changed). So I did really give the phone a try. I just think it lacked too much for what I paid for it. I saved 350 bucks switching to a Oneplus 7 Pro which is a much better buy for me.

  19. Router gone bad?

Not really...but if you don't see it then you don't see it. When you are streaming 4k to multiple devices (6+) you kind of need some really high speed stuff and your router has to be able to process that speed, not just be able to support it. If you are doing massive downloads, you will see it. If all you are doing is browsing sites, you won't see it. If youtube downgrades the video quality to your internet speed capabilities, which it does, you might not notice it especially if you can't see the difference between standard definition to HD to UHD. FWIW, my monthly download usage is over 1000GB, I am at 1.5TB per month about. Imagine doing that on anything under 100Mb/s.

  21. Someone got Windows 10X running on a MacBook

Yup. Windows 10's Tablet Mode is absolutely awful. And why is that? I've come to really like 10's Tablet mode on a convertible. Of course, I'm mostly comparing it to Windows 8 where switching between desktop and start screen (tablet mode if you will) was rather jarring. On 10 the two modes are visually pretty similar so the switch seems more natural. I've used apple and android tablets, but I can't think of anything major on those I think 10's tablet mode is missing, other than being stuck as a tablet which isn't something want anyway (why I bought a Surface). Gestures that don't work properly, icons on the Start screen keep going blank, keyboard not popping up when it should etc etc. It is a mess.

  28. First of all BETA and hopefully GA making replacement of default cmd in Windows? When?, Windows Terminal won't replace cmd.exe for two reasons. First because cmd.exe is already considered complete and required for legacy compatibility, so it won't be changing or disappearing for the foreseeable future. Second, because Windows Terminal is a console/terminal, not a shell. These are completely different and complementary pieces of software. CUI apps runs connected to a console or terminal to show their inputs/outputs, you need both. So cmd.exe can run connected to the Windows Terminal, just like conhost.exe (the legacy console) can be used to interact with any CUI app besides cmd.exe. As for when, Windows Terminal v1.0 is planned to be delivered by spring 2020. As for replacing conhost (legacy console), that won't happen for a few decades probably, at best conhost will be available only within the Win32 compatibility container in Win10X and removed from the core OS.

  29. Microsoft trademarks the Surface Duo ringtone, and you can download it

Another Microsoft failure. First of all, it has the dual screen deal, which is proven to be fragile and easy to break. Just ask Samsung. Second, it’s running Android, and if Microsoft follows Samsung’s bad habit of not updating their devices with the greatest and latest Android version as soon as Google releases it then I see nothing but “Fail” written all over it.

Really? A higher Ring VM technology like Virtual Box or VMWare is FASTER than a lower ring technology? Go on, there are a lot of engineers that would like to hear how you think this is even possible, let alone why you would believe something so stupid. I am talking about Hyper V in Windows 10, anything under that runs like ######. LOL. Guess what? It’s still a type 1 hypervisor under Windows 10. Runs just as well as it does on Windows Server. Don’t backpedal now, it’s just making you look worse. Compared to VMWare runs like ###### therefore it is ######. LOL, no. Let’s see a source that VMware runs better. Let me guess, you are comparing Linux? Pro tip: you can run enhanced VMs in Hyper-V that run accelerated, clipboard and file sharing, even 4k support. Had you mentioned ANY other bare metal hypervisor, I would have considered that reasonable. But a type 2? LOL.

Facepalm much.. THIS OS IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR/TARGETED AT MOBILE DEVICES Foot.. meet mouth.. No, this is Microsoft vision of future Windows. oh how dare they have a vision of security in mind. I would love win32 apps to be containerized like this on normal Windows. Win32 apps that have been ported to the store are really nice as there's no headache, especially if I choose to uninstall it later. Take iTunes as a good example, the normal installer method installs all sorts of services and such that get left behind when you uninstall it; no such issue with the Windows Store packaged version. It's the same app still just isolated into a container. no performance loss there either.

  39. Hands on with the Windows 10X emulator

Except this one has both the user experience optimized for tablets and the compatibility with Win32 apps back to Windows 95, which Windows RT didn't have. The goal isn't just to make dual screen devices, that's just the justification for this OS differences as it isn't ready to replace Win10 Pro on desktops at this point. But the long term plan is clearly to build the next Windows, and instead of breaking compatibility and starting over again, this time they include everything. Windows 10X currently supports containers for backward compatibility with Win32 and MSIX-contained Win32 apps, but it's easy to see the possibilities... we're getting a lightweight and efficient modern OS built for WinRT, which can bring up compatibility containers for Win32 at the moment, but which is based on the same architecture as the Linux WSL2 container on desktops, and - why not - an Android container based off it as well. A single OS that can technically run WinRT, Win32, Linux and Android apps consistently. And on top of that, the UI could adapt when connected to external monitor + mouse + keyboard to turn it into a full Windows + Linux desktop. I'd rather run Linux and use Wine to run Win32 apps I need than having this abomination of Windows running its native apps in container which does not guarantee performance and also strips off user of the experience which made Windows - Windows. Making Win32 second class citizen is not going to work, clearly MS. does not understand their Windows user base. Having said that, whatever vision they have for the future, and you are right there saying Windows 10x is what they are planning on the long term, won't last. They are going to lose people to Linux at much faster rate than having Windows user base accepting this baloney. After all, 500 millions of people are still sitting in Windows 7 after 5+ years of jerking with Windows 10 which is garbage as well. If I wanted Linux experience in Windows, I go and I turn my Linux machine on to have that experience. This baloney run all in one is just baloney and waste of everyone time. Except they are not second class citizens. Your win32 apps run natively without a hit to performance (except for a tiny delay when you open a Win32 app without any others open and that’s because the system is loading the legacy Windows backend when you open a legacy Win32 app without others being open). Plus you get the benefits of not having rogue or buggy Win32 apps getting access to the native system registry since they are in containers. And when you are done running a Win32 program or when the program is idle and minimized the system either offloads the legacy backend or suspends it respectively. Also, there are already different containerization and compatibility technologies already inside Windows serving different purposes. UWP apps are inherently containerized for security and performance reasons. On 64 bit x86 systems and ARM systems, 32 bit Win32 apps are already run in a semi-containerized compatibility mode using WOW64. And there are numerous sand boxing technologies for Win32 apps already being used. So containerization is nothing new for Windows. I am really not sure why you are complaining about something that lets you run your apps in a more secure manner, with little hit to performance, and with optimizations that should yield better battery life and less resource usage when your legacy Win32 apps are closed or idle and minimized. Yes they are a second class citizens cause people want their Win32 to run as service or task scheduled where they can apply overclocking at start up or have a nice display of gpu/cpu temperature, things like right click extract files using 7Zip and I can write pages and pages of it. No, Microsoft does treat it as a second class citizen and there will be penalty in performance running within container. I am sure they will improve that. There is no such a thing as Win32 App. Any new game you install and play are Win32 apps. No one in industry is buying into this Microsoft baloney especially not companies like Valve and what not. you just keep believing that; the average user doesn't care about any of those things. Only us "power" users and we will develop alternative methods if we so choose ....

So a OS for mobile dual screen devices is targeting mobile devices, you don't say? Who said anything about running this on desktops? Though dual screen laptops are a different story and those will run this. Though I've already seen twitter posts from people who'd like to have this shell on their desktops already, so you're clearly not talking about everyone here. And the "mobile" ship hasn't sailed, the "smartphone" ship did. Dual screen and folding devices are a whole new mobile market that no one has really taken control of yet.

When are these software developers going to get it that we are not using legacy operating systems. I'm not speaking in ways of functionality, I'm speaking in ways of appearance and old technology. This product looks downright freaking ugly. Now if I interpret this correctly, Tonec Inc (owner of IDM) outsources the development of their products which I'm also sure that they are patent trolls of legacy products. Legacy? hmmm.... I guess they can't make anymore money off of litigation from their legacy patents. Look at their website. it looks like most of it has not been touched for 10 or more years. These guys must be hurting for revenue. I'd steer clear of software that comes from companies like this.

  48. [Joke] Spaghetti

For several years, a man was having an affair with an Italian woman. One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant. Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he paid her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child. If she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support until the Child turned 18. She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discrete, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and write "Spaghetti" on the back. He would then arrange for the child support payments to begin. One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife. "Honey," she said, "you received a very strange post card today." "Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it later," he said. The wife obeyed and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted. On the card was written: "Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti. Three with meatballs, two without. Send extra sauce."
