  4. WIN 7 Updates still being sent?

There was a concern about spoofing windows update many yeas ago - flamer I think it was called, very complex sort of exploit with a chained cert.. This was addressed with https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/security-updates/SecurityAdvisories/2012/2718704 Its not like MS ended windows 7 support of the blue, it was years in the making... You have had years knowing that the eol was coming and it would no longer supported.. They even extended - a few times.. There is NO EXCUSE for you to be still using windows 7 - none!!! Its time to move on!! If you don't want to use windows 10... Then pick another OS that is current and supported... There are plenty of linux or bsd even OSes you could run that are supported. If you choose to continue to run a no longer supported OS, then yes there are security concerns - and they only get bigger with every passing day.

  11. I'm glad I purchased the DVD versions of these games back in the day. It's appaling that music has been removed from the Steam version over time. I understand that licenses etc. expire but they managed to work around this no problem with Vice City where only new purchases of the game are missing the affected tracks. It's a bit disappointing that a company such as Rockstar would cheap out like this in my opinion. It just doesn't look good.

  12. Uber improves passenger safety with on-trip report tool

Good, I hope that Lyft implements something like this as well. I refuse to use Uber after they charged me for a ride I never took, and the final straw was when the driver could not figure out how to get to me and told me I had to come to her... I have had my share of issues with Lyft drivers who are DUII (most of the time Marijuana) , DUI, speeding, texting while driving, etc. Now after each trip I can report this behavior to the safety team, but it would be nice to have an option to report it while it is happening.

Heart rhythm detection is done using skin conductivity and not optically (Like for heart beat), temperature changes (extreme cold) can cause bad reading in this, and that's why I am guessing they had to release fix just for certain locations. This is my guess based on working in bio-sensor related field and not based on knowing exactly what issue apple is facing,

The only thing that can and will flop harder than a new Windows Phone is the Surface Duo running Android - in a world overflooding with Android phones and entrenched Android OEMs, the Surface Duo is indeed DOA. Now I don't really mind, but it sucks that it takes the pretty cool Surface Neo down with it.

  20. this was discussed with a forum member earlier. it is sad. but on the bright side at least it received support for android 10. maybe "unofficial" means will prevail. Surprising things is, I have Pixel 3a which is not their premium iteration, but they have promised 3 years. tragically this apparently is more support than...Sony... Not to mention Samsung

  21. Have you tried "Steam Play"? I've seen reports that No Man's Sky runs pretty well on linux via this. Personally I'd try that before buying a PS4 just for one game. Thanks for the info... never hear of it... will check it out. Another option is GeForce Now, if you are in a supported region. I read NMS works very well using it. But it's $5/mnth and you need to have purchased the game on Steam.

Also, you don't like facebook, don't use, don't visit it, don't talk about it, just walk away, please! For your own sake. is not about that if you like it or not... is about false information. Since when someone enjoying reading false information? Unless you are talking about fox news viewers. What happens when the gov starts saying truth is false information just to hide or cover something up? that's what we are seen with the current Trump administration... true is false and false information is now the new true. Facebook needs to be like twitter that it will block any false info in their platform.

  33. Cases of cyber-flashing on trains are going 'largely unreported'

I don't really get this... So how do you know as the sender, who the phone your sending to belongs to? It could be the woman sat opposite you or it could be the big butch bloke sat next to her? Aside to that, if i'm sat there and get an offer from someone i don't know to receive a file to my device, i would most likely say no, unless i'm prepared to receive something that, in all probability, will not be something of interest to me? If i was to receive something like this, what is the point in going to the police? It would be reported and nothing else happen. Police are low on resource and i don't imagine would sit there looking through CCTV footage of who was on the train with me at the time and if they had an iPhone, trace them down, check to see if they had sent anything recently to an unknown device and then press charges? Whilst not pleasant to get something like this, i'm sure most people would simply roll their eyes, delete it and move on with their life?

  40. No. The original article linked above describes this much more accurately. The screen is going to roll-open or roll-closed as you close the right and left handholds. So, it's one screen, wherein you only view part of it when closed, all of it when open. It's a very interesting design that eliminates the need for any crease or seem whatsoever. I understand the concept, however I cannot for the life of me figure out where the screen is being pulled out from or where it hides when it's in it's compact mode.. I assume the left edge is rolled inside based on the camera module being on the right. Yes, that is my guess too. Since the smaller right edge piece is pulled to the right away from the left larger piece, either the rest of the screen is rolled up/slide rolls from the bottom on the right (which I agree with you doesn't make sense with the camera unit being on the back there) OR the WHOLE screen is hard fixed to the right unit and so it SLIDES across to the right with the edge as it's opened up and so the unrolling part is hidden under the left side of the phone unit. But, if it's the first way, the screen on the left remains static and then expands to the right as it unrolls. If it's the second way, whatever is on the screen on the left side would have to slide to the right along with the screen! Pretty wild either way. It's only my best guess, because it really depends on whether the screen is capable of being rolled up really tight or just slides around the roller from one flat layout to the other. It's a fascinating little sucker to be sure. Edit: I think I've got it! It must be hiding the screen under the large left section. How can we sure of this? Because the NOTCH is affixed to the rightmost edge, just like the cameras are on the rear. The notch is a fixed hole in the screen and can't be just "slid around". So that must be the anchor point. Which means the rest of the screen slides around the leftmost roller and back underneath the leftmost "eave" of this two piece wonder. :)

  42. Hands on with the Windows 10X emulator

So a OS for mobile dual screen devices is targeting mobile devices, you don't say? Who said anything about running this on desktops? Though dual screen laptops are a different story and those will run this. Though I've already seen twitter posts from people who'd like to have this shell on their desktops already, so you're clearly not talking about everyone here. And the "mobile" ship hasn't sailed, the "smartphone" ship did. Dual screen and folding devices are a whole new mobile market that no one has really taken control of yet. laptops are also mobile devices. No they are not. i don't care what you think. they are. why do you, by way of example, think that Windows Vista and later have the Mobility Center, which---guess what---only appears on mobile devices (including laptops)? you could not even address that earlier. it is obvious to all the reason why.

  45. Hands on with the Windows 10X emulator

Except this one has both the user experience optimized for tablets and the compatibility with Win32 apps back to Windows 95, which Windows RT didn't have. The goal isn't just to make dual screen devices, that's just the justification for this OS differences as it isn't ready to replace Win10 Pro on desktops at this point. But the long term plan is clearly to build the next Windows, and instead of breaking compatibility and starting over again, this time they include everything. Windows 10X currently supports containers for backward compatibility with Win32 and MSIX-contained Win32 apps, but it's easy to see the possibilities... we're getting a lightweight and efficient modern OS built for WinRT, which can bring up compatibility containers for Win32 at the moment, but which is based on the same architecture as the Linux WSL2 container on desktops, and - why not - an Android container based off it as well. A single OS that can technically run WinRT, Win32, Linux and Android apps consistently. And on top of that, the UI could adapt when connected to external monitor + mouse + keyboard to turn it into a full Windows + Linux desktop. I'd rather run Linux and use Wine to run Win32 apps I need than having this abomination of Windows running its native apps in container which does not guarantee performance and also strips off user of the experience which made Windows - Windows. Making Win32 second class citizen is not going to work, clearly MS. does not understand their Windows user base. Having said that, whatever vision they have for the future, and you are right there saying Windows 10x is what they are planning on the long term, won't last. They are going to lose people to Linux at much faster rate than having Windows user base accepting this baloney. After all, 500 millions of people are still sitting in Windows 7 after 5+ years of jerking with Windows 10 which is garbage as well. If I wanted Linux experience in Windows, I go and I turn my Linux machine on to have that experience. This baloney run all in one is just baloney and waste of everyone time. Except they are not second class citizens. Your win32 apps run natively without a hit to performance (except for a tiny delay when you open a Win32 app without any others open and that’s because the system is loading the legacy Windows backend when you open a legacy Win32 app without others being open). Plus you get the benefits of not having rogue or buggy Win32 apps getting access to the native system registry since they are in containers. And when you are done running a Win32 program or when the program is idle and minimized the system either offloads the legacy backend or suspends it respectively. Also, there are already different containerization and compatibility technologies already inside Windows serving different purposes. UWP apps are inherently containerized for security and performance reasons. On 64 bit x86 systems and ARM systems, 32 bit Win32 apps are already run in a semi-containerized compatibility mode using WOW64. And there are numerous sand boxing technologies for Win32 apps already being used. So containerization is nothing new for Windows. I am really not sure why you are complaining about something that lets you run your apps in a more secure manner, with little hit to performance, and with optimizations that should yield better battery life and less resource usage when your legacy Win32 apps are closed or idle and minimized. Yes they are a second class citizens cause people want their Win32 to run as service or task scheduled where they can apply overclocking at start up or have a nice display of gpu/cpu temperature, things like right click extract files using 7Zip and I can write pages and pages of it. No, Microsoft does treat it as a second class citizen and there will be penalty in performance running within container. I am sure they will improve that. There is no such a thing as Win32 App. Any new game you install and play are Win32 apps. No one in industry is buying into this Microsoft baloney especially not companies like Valve and what not. you just keep believing that; the average user doesn't care about any of those things. Only us "power" users and we will develop alternative methods if we so choose .... You would be surprised. We already have granmas and granpas who played Doom 2 and were ultimate power users and do hardware / software modifications on their old Commodore 64 and Amiga machines. Do not do what MS. does, insulting people IQ. who's insulting IQ? I also didn't mention an age with the power users comment. The truth of the matter is the majority of people on Windows just care about accessing Facebook and their Email and couldn't care less about customization and such.

  46. Why so much Google junk dependency in the news comment section?

Tinfoil hat on there pretty tight there. Ajax frameworks is probably why you can't do anything... google what Ajax is if you want to know why, but it's basically scripting that any site uses nowadays, Google just happens to have some nice packages that provide a good base to build off. Google scraping what fonts your browser renders and frameworks to generate the look and feel of a page? Shock. Horror. You'll probably have half the internet broken for you which such an encompassing block.
