it's fake. likely a page with a redirect ad. you should be able to just close it and be fine If you're worried though I'd recommend you scan your computer with Malwarebytes and Kaspersky Rescue Disc on a USB. I recommend the rescue disc because booting into an environment to scan ensures the scanner isn't compromised causing it to ignore the infected files and/or be unable to delete them.3 points -

Assuming Windows 10: More than likely the Dell iso will contain extra "fluff" that you won't necessarily need. Microsoft's media creation tool will give you a straight installation of Windows without all that "fluff.". You may or may not need to download drivers from Dell after installation and running Windows update (just check for exclamation marks in device manager)3 points -

When I was unemployed this is how I passed the time. I didn't actively seek out the scammers, they would randomly phone the house. "Hello sir, I'm phoning from Microsoft and we would like to inform you that your computer is sending viruses." "Goodness, really? That sounds terrible. What can I do?" I was running Linux and I (was) an unemployed technician. I had them going for ages. It became a personal challenge to see how much of their time I could waste.2 points -

Dell windows restore image
Jim K and one other reacted to Zinomian for a topic
Restore images used to be badly needed before when you needed to have the OS activated and either the win7/8 stickers were missing or couldnt be read, and win7 couldnt even the network card working without having to manually install drivers, etc. Now days, I MUCH prefer to to a clean install of Win10 (even for corporate), and then run the manufacturer software to install/update drivers (Lenovo System Update or Dell Command Update for the two I deal with). This will typically eliminate the crapware that comes with most new computers, but leave a new OS with proper drivers.2 points -
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra's 120Hz display takes a huge toll on battery life

Not trying to be contrarian, but high refresh rates displays on phones are overhyped. I'll take battery life any day of the week. So GIPHY which started in 2013 is now being the end all to the name pronounciation of GIF?When the image format came out in 1987 the creators pronounced it JIF not GIF... I'd rather go by what they said back then To quote the CREATOR: Steve Wilhite, who invented the Gif file in 1987, told the New York Times that the word is pronounced “jif” not “giff”. “The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations. They are wrong. It is a soft 'G,' pronounced 'jif.2 points -

Anyone pronouncing it with a soft G should walk out the nearest window. I'd say the creator can call something what ever they want even if it doesn't match, it's their baby not someone else's. We pronounce G's as the soft-G when i, e, or y follow it .. .Ex: German, Giraffe We often jive jifts on Christmas, especially to the jirl with the jimp leg, all while the old jeezer dressed as Santa, sat telling us of old historical battles, like Jettysburg...1 point -

Jif and GIPHY team up on peanut butter that will show you how to say GIF correctly
MFH reacted to Brandon H for a topic
GIF is an acronym for "graphic interchange format" so why would a hard G not make sense regardless of what the creator wants to believe? Not to sound rude but that's most people's reasoning to it. It's disrespectful. It'd be like calling someone Dick when the person clearly wants you to say Richard. If you say, "I don't care, it's Dick, and you're wrong.", that's all on you. The creator even gave multiple reasons why it's jif. Like when you spell it out, it is G I F. G sounds like jif. that's not even an equal comparison. As others have said if the creator truly had issues with the pronunciation he would have made a deal out of it YEARS ago, not just now out of the blue. He just wants attention the way I see it. Just because it's spelled out G I F doesn't mean it has to be a soft G; Girl isn't pronounced jirl for example. Tomato / Tomahto ; pronunciations differ, doesn't necessarily make it 'wrong'1 point -

Who cares what the creator said, just because he made a completely illogical choice two hundred years ago doesn't mean we have to follow it. The G stands for Graphics, not Jraphics. Simple as. Anyone pronouncing it with a soft G should walk out the nearest window. Yeah, that all makes logical sense. But the problem here is that some random site claims to be an authority on the matter. I wouldn't call the biggest gif website / search index / API on the internet "some random site." Either way, it's a fun marketing campaign, not a serious proclamation. But it's a hard G. but G when followed by E, I or Y are suppose to be short G's If it's a word (maybe), which it is not...It's an abbreviation. Language (especially English) isnt as simple as that. For every rule, there are exception, cases to which that rule does not apply. I use a hard "G", because as has been pointing out the "G" is for "Graphic"1 point -

Firefox DNS over HTTPS rollout begins in the U.S.
timster reacted to neufuse for a topic
The DNS traffic is encrypted between you and the DNS provider. is that even necessary just for name translation traffic? I can think of better things to worry about encryption with ... stops foreign actors and bad actors from watching and logging or intercepting your site requests... think of a country that likes to control what sites you can go to, this makes it hard for them to figure out if it's DNS traffic or HTTP traffic compared to just listening on port 53 to see what you are doing1 point -

I laugh every time I hear this. People voting with their wallets doesn't stop anyone else from buying and enjoying the game wherever they feel like, so it affects absolutely nothing. well if people did, then it would work. Companies only care about the bottom line. If you dont buy they dont get money. Simple as that. That's my point. You not buying doesn't mean noone else will. They don't care whether or not you want the product or like the companies business practices.1 point -

Tesla ordered by court to halt work on German gigafactory
MightyJordan reacted to Stefan Dascalu for a topic
This factory and forest aside, can you please explain what your plans are with the millions of tons of toxic waste with the dead Lithium batteries after they wear off? It's a tricky question that Musk always dodges. Yes, you can (kinda) recycle Lithium batteries, too bad the process costs around 5 times more than mining it, so in essence no one on Earth is doing it. And the process also emits greenhouse gases by the way. The US is all about Tesla now, Musk this, Musk that, Made in Murrica, such green, so innovation, but in reality, it's just a different, somewhat "better" form of pollution. Someone's definitely clueless in this case, but curiously it's not the green league this time. I am pro hydrogen and I don't think an electric car is green than a regular car. However, the use of electric cars is the "poster girl" of the green movements. The Green League is not complaining if the battery is recyclable (or about Murica) but about the forest and water. The forest is not a reserve and the water, if they can process the water, then they could comply with the law. Petrol extraction and refinery both also comply with the law, that doesn't mean they're pollution-free. I've been saying for a while that all Hydrogen needs is a Musk-level showman that makes it cool, nothing more. And I also hate the term "electric car", because both BEV and FCEV are electric. While Musk's trying hard to defy physics, FCEV semis are already doing the heavy lifting in Cali. FCEV buses are all around in the Netherlands and China. It's bound to take over anything battery has to offer, at least in commercial use cases, because the energy density is 100 times higher. Musk is an engineer so I must assume he simply pretends to not know this fact. And the thing is, since he's invested so heavily in battery tech, he's no longer fit to answer questions on the matter. Well we can assume you are a genius and Musk is a moron but that is not really the case, is it? Hydrogen is inherently less efficient, it's barely above petrol when you take the whole process into account. The only thing that saves it is that it has higher energy density and that with the right infrastructure distribution the efficiency can get better. But using H for personal use cars is a moronic idea. Especially since EV can easily outperform them when it comes to the environmental fallout.1 point -
