I believe these companies have a choice between 1. allow free speech and be protected by Section 230, or 2. moderate/censor content and be considered a publisher (not protected by 230). Youtube chose to censor content, so the law sees them as a publisher (and not a public platform). Companies like Youtube who opt to moderate (and give up section 230) can be sued for content users post on their site. To me, this seems like Youtube has the "convenience" to choose either of those since they have so much money, and their perceived cost of choosing to moderate and censor content while defending lawsuits is more profitable than allowing all content and being protected from lawsuits.

This is fairly obvious, no? "Free speech" has only ever applied to the government, that's the whole point.

This is what I expect from the court to uphold. Private applications that are not government property.... you can't claim free speech. If it was a government controlled community, yes.

haha! Well thought out there, Apple. Plus, that thing still looks hideous. With wheels it looks like a mini food delivery cart or something you see in a hospital.

  9. Life

On the first day, God created the dog and said: 'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.' The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?' So God agreed. On the second day, God created the monkey and said: 'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span.' The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?' And God agreed. On the third day, God created the cow and said: 'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.' The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?' And God agreed again. On the fourth day, God created man and said: 'Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years.' But man said: 'Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?' 'Okay,' said God, 'You asked for it.' So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone. Life has now been explained to you.

you need to know why they got sued... it has nothing to do with copyright. if they dont like your message be it scientific, fact or not... youtube will censor it. conservative outlets has always been on the receiving end. It's not just conservative outlets that are on the receiving end, there are plenty of LGBTQ groups furious for the censorship they've pushed. You guys need to stop playing the "woe, it's only me" card.

YouTube has been censoring videos for years now, they've been taking down videos for others because of copyrights. YouTube hasn't been a public forum for a very long time now.

I do understand that the constitution prohibits only the government from infringing on free speech rights granted to us by our Creator (not granted by the government). Section 230 does not grant free speech -- it protects companies from being sued when their user posts something on their social media platform: https://www.cnsnews.com/commen...berty-and-reject-censorship

Wise and correct decision. One can say and self-distribute whatever they want. Private distribution sources can decided what and what not to distribute. It most regrettable that individual self-control hardly exists anymore. Just because one can do or say something does not make it right or correct. Hence the problems with the First Amendment (as written) that were never anticipated by the Founding Fathers.

I would also recommend you check your chrome extention list and make sure some dodgy ones didn't get installed. I see that happening ALL the time. Some extensions don't even try to hide the fact they are a peice of crap, calling themselves things like "PDF Promotion's". Other pieces of crap extensions are called things like "Search Encrypt" or "Map finder", "*Insert name* Finder". The average user usually gets those ###### extensions installed by trying to find an obituary or a manual on the internet. I'm not sure how they manage to get an extention installed but they do. One person I helped had 11 ###### extensions installed. As you can imagine they were getting redirected all over the place.

I agree it was a wise decision, but the courts did not really rule on free speech. PragerU argued the Youtube needs to be considered a public forum under Section 230. The court ruled that Youtube can choose whether to be a self-censoring publisher or an open-forum platform protected by section 230 -- and Youtube chose to be a publisher (by moderating their content). Which they have every right to. They are a private company, not funded with public funds or a goverment entity. Just because they are large or popular, it doesn't mean that user can claim "free speech". The interesting part, is that most of the arguing is coming from only "alt" groups of both sides (mostly right wing/conspiracy theorist at the moment) who dislike that their crap is being blocked. With that said, nothing prevents these groups from using other forums, they simply hate the fact, that these other forums aren't as popular.

Curious, does that mean YouTube can be sued and fined for users' content instead of the users directly, in regards to COPPA (setting videos to for kids/not for kids). Before, the FTC made it sound like users would directly be fined, but now it seems like YouTube is putting itself at the front now so users don't get sued?

  34. Enterprise sales are often conducted in person, including many on-site visits by subject matter experts. Without those specs-gathering visits worldwide, those sales/agreements cannot happen to everyone's preference. So the decrease in on-site visits necessarily means fewer sales deals that close, or upgrades/deployments of custom solutions are delayed. Net result: decrease in near-term revenue numbers.

  39. Threatening attempt to gain access issue

When I was unemployed this is how I passed the time. I didn't actively seek out the scammers, they would randomly phone the house. "Hello sir, I'm phoning from Microsoft and we would like to inform you that your computer is sending viruses." "Goodness, really? That sounds terrible. What can I do?" I was running Linux and I (was) an unemployed technician. I had them going for ages. It became a personal challenge to see how much of their time I could waste.

This is exacly the problem I was having with my new Gigabyte X570 Gaming X MOBO. I pulled it all apart and was at the point of sending the board back. Thought it was weird the fan stopped for a second on startup too, and possibly related. It wasn't SImply moved the gpu to the pciex16 instead of the 4 as above and it all worked beautifully! Still doesn't explain why the native HDMI didn't work when I completely removed the GPU. Flaw in the BIOS if you ask me. huge thanks to the forum and Antdrioite though.

  47. Dell windows restore image

I just checked, but I don't know if this is what you're referring to: There's an application for Dell machines called OS Recovery Tool that allows you to download a recovery environment either for the computer you run it on, or for another one (providing its service tag). It allows you to create a bootable USB stick with either their SupportAssist OS recovery system or a full Windows installation media (you have to go to advanced recovery to be able to select that option). The install media layout is the typical for OEMs (i.e, an $OEM$ folder with scripts, a custom recovery image, manufacturer software and the like) and it only contains the Windows version that shipped with that machine. For example, if it shipped with Pro, the image will only contain a Pro build; although I have the feeling that those machines that ship with different versions of Windows would get a multi-version installation image. The image is encrypted and highly compressed though (install.esd instead of install.wim) and just like the boot image it's been modified compared to a generic Windows image. At the very least it has plenty of drivers added to it, even if they don't match that particular machine. For example, I could see drivers for several WiFi cards embedded into the image when only one is present, probably to support all of the sub-models of a particular machine. I didn't do a rigorous comparison between the equivalent vanilla installation image and Dell's, but it should answer your question. I'm inclined to agree with @Zinomianregarding using a Microsoft provided image instead of one made by the system manufacturer. While it's true that you will have to install some things manually (like the usual software that controls media keys on laptops), if you leave drivers for Windows Update to install most if not all will be installed without problem; and if your machine is too new that things are wired in a way that's unsupported yet by the Windows installer (think storage controllers or stuff over Intel's Serial IO) simply download those beforehand to load them up during setup.

  49. You're saying it as if 15 minutes makes difference. Isn't that exaggeration on its own?Spin it however you want, 20+ % or 2.5h< is still plenty battery life to loose. Not trying to be contrarian, but high refresh rates displays on phones are overhyped. I'll take battery life any day of the week. I'm saying a journalists job is to report the facts as accurately as possible. Let me decide if 23% is "Huge" or not. Triggered. Looks like the writer appeased you, however. Also, why throw a fit over this? Everyone’s mileage is going to vary on this.
