Companies don't have to uphold the first amendment, the government does. you just knowingly misunderstood him. truth is... why are Bakers forced to do business with LGBT even when it is against their religion but youtube is allowed to discriminate? same message from one group will be okay while it wont be okay from another group. eg. It is okay to do abortion = OK... it is not okay to do abortion = bad for youtube.2 points -

I never thought Cortana was anything more than a response to Siri and Hey Google. I never got the impression that MS was really serious about building up that product. If they work well, they're amazing. I remember back in 2014 or so, I asked Cortana how to get to a certain restaurant. It was a chain restaurant, so Cortana asked me which one I wanted. I told her, she brought up the maps app and I had directions. This was done by pushing a "voice assistant" button in my Ford, and then talking to Cortana like any human being. It really was the future, it was amazing, and it's still IMO better than anything Siri can do. Lately though, Cortana's been sucking with just about everything. Probably by design, except I'm not sure what I'll do with my speaker now.2 points -

Remember the 9/11? At that time many video game developers removed contents that they deemed tasteless for a grieving nation. For example, Red Alert 2 had a promotional art that showed a plane colliding into the WTC buildings. Westwood removed it. Banning certain contents during a time of crisis isn't unprecedented. When resources are stretched and managers are working under stress, a game putting ideas in the heads of undereducated and sometimes superstitious people can have catastrophic results. The game was available for 8 years in China. I wouldn't be hasty to judge them now that they have a Coronavirus outbreak.2 points -

There is no "basic human right" to post crap on Youtube. You do understand that, don't you? Companies don't have to uphold the first amendment, the government does. I understand that. But did you understand what I said? Because it doesn't seem like you did. @Benjimooler gets it. It's really simple. If corporations want protection under the constitution as "people" then they should also be forced to uphold the constitution. You don't get to claim basic human rights while actively ###### on them. And no matter how much some don't want it to be freedom of speech is a basic human right. Benjimooler didn’t get anything. He brought up discrimination because of sexual orientation, which is not the same thing as free speech. In his same scenario, those “bakers” could simply say, “I don’t like you” and refuse service. If I were to build a social media platform, I get to choose what I allow on it as long as it is not illegal. The government has no legal leg to stand on to control any of that. Even if I suppress free speech. If people want their interpretation of what is “fair”, they are free to build their own private service. Neowin deletes content they don’t deem appropriate. Are you going to include them in this injustice of suppressing free speech? Free speech might be a basic human right, but it does not mean it is free of consequences. Discrimination based on political affiliation or religious affiliation is discrimination. No matter how and what you discriminate on.. It is discrimination. YouTube has been doing this and I am still asking why is it that a business owner, a person business owner with no ties to government has to Carter to certain sets of people. YouTube is doing the same thing. They have been targeting conservative outlets for literally stating a fact. Make a video that a transgender man is biologically a man and you might get into a problem Political discrimination isn’t legally protected on private platforms. Play by their rules or build your own service. It’s not hard to figure out.1 point -
Microsoft is killing off music, smart home, and third-party skills in Cortana
Nas reacted to ad47uk for a topic
As they've announced repeatedly, it's being removed from CONSUMER editions of Windows. But it is not, it will be more in the background, it will still be in Windows 10, consumer and enterprise. This article is about it being removed from third party devices, so you will not be able to say control your heating with it, not that there is many third party devices for it anyway. By al;l accounts Cortana is not going to have any support on older versions of Windows 10. RTFA (the Microsoft posts) The "Cortana experience on Windows 10" is being changed by reducing the set of skills it is capable of (including said experiences of interacting with third-party services). The change affects Windows 10. You stated that it was third-party devices which lose Cortana support -- which is not the case. Those third-party devices are smart home control panels and smart speakers (harman-kardon invoke). Heck, their own first-party devices include those new headphones which will not lose Cortana support! Grammar is important. Fair enough, but i bet it will still be in the background of Windows 10 collecting info.1 point -

Free speech might be a basic human right, but it does not mean it is free of consequences. No way? That made you look super intelligent. I care. I'll add a bit more. Two people have completely missed the point of what I was saying, one didn't. So as far as that is concerned I couldn't be bothered if you think what I said is not intelligent because we're obviously reading things completely different. Ah this old chestnut. Blame everyone for misunderstanding but not look at your ineffectiveness at conveying the message effectively. It’s everyone else’s fault. 😂. Very Trump-like.1 point -

You should do some research on why there is worry. Flu mortality rate: 0.1%. This particular coronavirus: 2-3%. There are flu vaccines that (to a degree) help. There is no vaccine for this. Price slashed for 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 due to more affordable RAM
ThaCrip reacted to n_K for a topic
Web browsing has always been crap on the raspberry pi because of lack of hardware acceleration, x11 lags woefully bad, I doubt they have fixed that. Things like mplayer have direct support for hardware acceleration on the raspberry pi so actually run rather well The main thing is... even if there is a noticeable difference from a typical desktop to this device when it comes to web browsing, as long as it's 'fast enough' is the main thing. because a little lag I would not mind just as long as it's not annoyingly sluggish. but thanks for the info. I haven't tested using x11 since the raspberry pi 1 but it was that kind of painfully bad sluggish. I remember I had conky in the background with a 1 second update rate... that alone was incredibly painful1 point -

GOG games are honor based. They never required activation. So you could always buy a game, download the installer, get a refund, and keep the installer in a USB, DVD, or what not, and install and play on a thousand PCs for 20 years, and the game would still work. How is a "thirty-day trial" gonna beat a never expiring "trial"? Whoooooooooosh.1 point -

It's fake. If this happens the fix to avoid that page when you restart Chrome is to disconnect from the Internet then load Chrome, type in something like google.com in the address bar, let it error out then close Chrome. Reconnect your Internet and open Chrome seems to clear that up. But as to the initial scam popup you can't get rid of it appears Google is going to have to fix that to avoid the workaround I'm using.1 point -

I believe these companies have a choice between 1. allow free speech and be protected by Section 230, or 2. moderate/censor content and be considered a publisher (not protected by 230). Youtube chose to censor content, so the law sees them as a publisher (and not a public platform). Companies like Youtube who opt to moderate (and give up section 230) can be sued for content users post on their site. To me, this seems like Youtube has the "convenience" to choose either of those since they have so much money, and their perceived cost of choosing to moderate and censor content while defending lawsuits is more profitable than allowing all content and being protected from lawsuits.1 point -

waysidesc reacted to PGHammer for a topic
Depends on what you consider Earth-shattering. I went from 8 to 10 when I changed phones (from Galaxy S7 to Pixel 3a); the biggest change for me was VoLTE and VoWifi. (Android 10 supports both; Android 8 had issues.) Surprisingly, AOSP 10 can support it better than stock Android 10; however, it MUST be built in. I actually DID find an AOSP 10 ROM that does the job - Havoc 3.1 unofficial for Pixel 3a and 3a XL. VoWiFi and VoLTE are not just supported, but they are supported better than stock Android 10 - and I actually NEED VoWifi support, because my oncologist's local office has issues with LTE in that office; therefore, VoWifi support is a must.1 point -
