Valve plans to make more Half-Life games after Alyx

"The original Half-Life, Valve's first game and one of the most critically lauded PC titles ever, has sold an average of one million copies every year ever since it was first released in 1998. That's an average of one million copies per year, for ten years, without counting digital sales. Wowzers. Half-Life 2 meanwhile, which was the first game to launch predominantly on Valve's Steam service, has sold more than 6.5 million copies in just four years and is still clocking up retail sales. The Orange Box has managed to sell 3 million copies at retail ever since that was released just last year and Left4Dead is currently on track to beat that record by more than 500,000 copies." https://bit-tech.net/news/gami...-half-life-sales-figures/1/ Yeah... that sure hasn't sold well at all has it...4 points -

HLA is HL3 no, it's a prequel to HL2 so it's more like HL1.5 If you want to be literal then we're on like HL6 because of the games being broken into parts. HLA is HL3 if you base it on what a Half Life title is. Groundbreaking and revolutionary in some way. HL1 was FPS storytelling, HL2 was physics, HL3/HLA is VR By your logic, HLA is HL1.9, not 1.5. And episodes were expansions, not full games. Half-Life 2 ended on a cliffhanger. Having Half-Life 3 be a prequel would be ridiculous, it doesn't continue the story. It's a moot point anyway; it's not named Half-Life 3, so it isn't. That is why it is not called HL3, but technically it is HL3. It is a 3rd mainline entry. So yes, we got HL3. If you go by that logic it should be Half Life 5 since Episode One would be HL3 and Episode Two would be HL4. Besides that I see Alyx as more of a side story anyway. EP1 and EP2 were not mainline games but standalone expansions. Would you count Opposing Force as HL2? No, it is still HL1. Ep1 and 2 followed and are sequels to the HL1 and 2 story line though, so how are they not mainline games? Anything that progresses the storyline should count, the eps are sequels to HL2.2 points -

New PC not working. Help!!
fastcat and one other reacted to Jim K for a topic
Couple of things. You do not have an on-board GPU so the motherboard video connections will not work. The fan on the 1650 doesn't matter. A lot of GPUs will run passively until a certain temp is reached...though they will usually spin up briefly when the computer is turned on. When you post ... what does your Debug LEDs show (CPU, DRAM, VGA, BOOT) That motherboard does not natively support the Ryzen 3rd generation series. It came later with a BIOS update...your motherboard could have it loaded but if the LED is red next to CPU than it probably doesn't. If the LED is red than you may need to contact MSI customer support for a boot kit (or they will point you to AMD for a boot kit). The boot kit comes with a supported processor which allows you to boot for the purpose of updating the BIOS (since you need a supported processor installed to update the BIOS on this board). I respectfully disagree with this. His processor is the low 65w Ryzen and the GPU is only 100w. He has plenty of watts to spare with just a 600w PSU for that build. Not saying the PSU isn't the culprit ... but it isn't because of the specified wattage.2 points -

New PC not working. Help!!
Luiz Loyo reacted to jpqf for a topic
The "MAX" boards explicitly support Ryzen 3000 out of box. MSI boards are known to have a very long cold boot time with Ryzen 3000. A characteristic is the CPU debug LED stays on. There's been no explaination for this. As a result users have resorted to much hearsay. When you search the /r/msi_gaming subreddit there are tons of posts about it. The most commonly said remedy is to try booting very many times until you hit the lucky spin. I remember one post with many successes saying that flicking the PSU switch quickly can work. It has to be quick enough such that the system doesn't lose power but janks something and causes it to boot. Like I said, hearsay and voodoo magickery. All in all I would just return it if you still can. Get a board that actually works without problems.1 point -

Covid-19: mortality rate of 2-3% Flu: 0.1% Weak flu-like virus? What do consider a not weak flu-like virus? Spanish Flu, mortality rate 2-3%. 1.7% of the population died. However, we talk about a flu that started before the globalization. 🤦🏻 Did you even read what I said? Sometimes I forget that all the replies must be to contradict some argument. Sometimes I forget people are socially challenged in how they word their reply. Read the question. Apply your answer. Explain to me how it makes a bit of sense in the context. Luiz Loyo reacted to Brandon H for a topic
At this point it will be easier to just contact MSI for the boot-kit since you already have the board. they'll usually send it to you free of charge and you just send it back after you get the BIOS updated. That way you don't have to spend more money on another board + dealing with the return of this one.1 point -

Microsoft cancels in-person MVP Summit thanks to coronavirus fear
zhangm reacted to goretsky for a topic
Hello Soder, Microsoft actually has built all sorts of telemetry into its products over the past decades to assess what sorts of issues its customers are having, as well as their own support forums, however, Microsoft MVPs provided an important curatorial function. One of the most important things I did as an MVP was informing Microsoft of emerging issues that I was seeing, as well as respond to questions about the scope of issues they were seeing. However, what got me into the MVP Program in the first place was the fact that I was helping users nearly every day with solving problems they had with Microsoft technologies--something I have done since 1989 (e.g., far longer than I was in the program). You might want to take a look at this page on Microsoft's web site which explains a little more about the program, https://mvp.microsoft.com/en-U...what-it-takes-to-be-an-mvp, as you seem to have a misunderstanding of what the program is for and how it helps all of Microsoft's customers, not just the MVPs. lol. no. I've worked actually worked at a thoma bravo owned company. They don't have fire sales with asset strippers. They usually only take on well off companies who are already managed well and profitable, but are looking for more capital to expand faster than they're capable of without an investor. They don't just strip things for parts to make a profit off of, they build their purchases up and invest the time and money to grow them, which seems to pay off. I hope that's the case. Dell's purchase of SonicWall was a disaster. Hoping this means a better future for Sophos, as I welcome better competition.1 point -

Note that neither the Galaxy S20 nor the Galaxy S20+ have any kind of real telephoto or zoom cameras. Notebookcheck explained that: https://www.notebookcheck.net/...-Zoom-Cameras.453934.0.html1 point -

Little correction: It's two major Android updates, and security updates for generally 3 years. I've received two major Android updates for my S8+ (released 2017), and still gets security updates monthly (currently on Feb. 2020 security patch). Wish every Android phone could get more support for updates, but it's the world we live in. Last point about bloatware: have you used a modern Samsung device on OneUI or Samsung Experience? It's not like the Touchwiz days at all. It's hard to go back to 'stock' Android as it is missing some really useful features that Samsung has baked (like screenshot features) Flagship phones have gotten way too expensive, regardless of Android or iPhone.1 point
