Valve plans to make more Half-Life games after Alyx

What alternate universe are you from and how did you get here? don't bring the 20 years old game Artifact and Dota Underlord, both are dead they gave up with linux native gaming, they rely on emulating windows, nothing works, either graphics bug, audio issue or input issue on top of that, they charge people 30% to release on steam, as greedy as google and apple You said that "all their games flopped" which is laughably false, and the age of the game is irrelevant. Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Portal, Portal 2, Garry's Mod, Left 4 Dead, Dota 2, etc. The vast majority of their games have been massive hits, while some have even become cultural icons. To say that all of their games flopped is a ludicrous statement. As for what Valve charges to release games on Steam, judging from how successful Steam is it doesn't appear to be a problem. You know, it's perfectly ok to just say that you hate Valve without making up silly reasons to justify it.4 points -

Hello, A few things off the top of my head: Hardware replaceable CPUs, RAM and SSDs in notebook computers notebook computer docks (e.g., a dock which the computer nestles into, versus the current trend of USB/Thunderbolt "dongles") drive bays for optical drives (or a tray for an additional SSD or HDD) in notebook computers swappable batteries, both in notebook computers and in smartphones 16:10 and 4:3 displays, both in notebook computers and in standalone displays hardware switches to disable webcams and microphones, both in notebook computers and in smartphones hardware write-protect switches for BIOS (UEFI) firmware updates on motherboards (Matrox used to have these on their video cards, too!) hardware write-protect switches on USB flash drives (I believe Kanguru is the last manufacturer offering these) both USB 2.0 and PS/2 ports in desktop computers and in docks for connecting keyboards and mouses computers shipping with recovery media keyboards with sculpted tops, decent pitch and travel in notebook computers Software waterfall development of software leading to final, long-term releases (e.g., supported for multiple years) with stability and reliability as a primary goal highly-customizable Windows UI elements without having to resort to third-party tools There are probably lots of others as well, but as mentioned before, this is just off the top of my head.... There's still the slight delay before the prompt appears, which has always bugged me about PowerShell. After you've opened it a few times, it seems so quick that it's pointless to care about it. But sometimes the delay can be longer, and I find that very annoying. I want a usable prompt the instant the window appears (like cmd.exe).3 points -

New iPhone 7 jailbreak lets you run Android on your iPhone like you clearly wanted
DaveSharp and one other reacted to macoman for a topic
I wouldn't do it if it's your primary device but if it's just a secondary or backup device then what's the worst that could happen? I'd imagine you can still throw it into DFU mode and reload fresh by connecting to a PC. At least I would hope this doesn't screw up DFU I just don't trust it... even If I have a backup iphone 7... the iphone could end up without getting back to factory settings. Just broke my IPhone 8 Plus last night. Getting back to factory shouldn't be a problem. At least its never been before. But I won't be running Android on it because its flat stupid. Especially since almost none of the reasons you have the phone for, like the camera, music, Bluetooth etc, don't work. Absolutely right, I rather buy a cheap android phone if I want android than screwing up a $250 dollars iphone.2 points -

Valve plans to make more Half-Life games after Alyx
Jackaluichi and one other reacted to n_K for a topic
"The original Half-Life, Valve's first game and one of the most critically lauded PC titles ever, has sold an average of one million copies every year ever since it was first released in 1998. That's an average of one million copies per year, for ten years, without counting digital sales. Wowzers. Half-Life 2 meanwhile, which was the first game to launch predominantly on Valve's Steam service, has sold more than 6.5 million copies in just four years and is still clocking up retail sales. The Orange Box has managed to sell 3 million copies at retail ever since that was released just last year and Left4Dead is currently on track to beat that record by more than 500,000 copies." https://bit-tech.net/news/gami...-half-life-sales-figures/1/ Yeah... that sure hasn't sold well at all has it...2 points -

HP's Board of Directors tells shareholders to reject Xerox's offer
Brony reacted to Nas for a topic
Hoping someone buys out xerox and just shuts them down the next day to shut them up. I'm no expert on this, but it seems like Xerox doesn't need any help with that. This aggressiveness in buying HP sounds like they're trying to cling on to any potential they can find because they know something bad is about to happen. Xerox is about 30% market cap of HPQ, so they're the smaller fish. But "they" (lets not forget the big money backers pushing for this deal) also know HPQ is not actually worth as much as HPQ thinks they're worth! In HPQ's response of "structure" they're basically saying that their shaky financial footings would unravel and the world would see that HPQ isn't worth as much as they claim (regardless of how high the takeover price becomes)... and Xerox would be able to reneg on the deal valuation down to a "real" price. All of that HPQ financial weight would evaporate (and the public would see how crappy HPQ's finances truly are). HPQ's vested interest is to keep their shadiness private; Xerox, as the dramatically smaller competitor, is the storefront making the push... and the creditors will keep providing billions more until HPQ cannot refuse oversight. (Keyword: oversight... that's also why Xerox is pushing for entire Board makeover, not just adding a new position akin to what several activist investors do.)1 point -

HLA is HL3 no, it's a prequel to HL2 so it's more like HL1.5 If you want to be literal then we're on like HL6 because of the games being broken into parts. HLA is HL3 if you base it on what a Half Life title is. Groundbreaking and revolutionary in some way. HL1 was FPS storytelling, HL2 was physics, HL3/HLA is VR By your logic, HLA is HL1.9, not 1.5. And episodes were expansions, not full games. By your logic, Boneworks is HL3. If SLZ could use HL assets, then it could be. So is Fallout Tactics: BoS actually Fallout 3? I think we're being silly here honestly lol... You can have side entries to an overarching story after all.1 point -

The "MAX" boards explicitly support Ryzen 3000 out of box. MSI boards are known to have a very long cold boot time with Ryzen 3000. A characteristic is the CPU debug LED stays on. There's been no explaination for this. As a result users have resorted to much hearsay. When you search the /r/msi_gaming subreddit there are tons of posts about it. The most commonly said remedy is to try booting very many times until you hit the lucky spin. I remember one post with many successes saying that flicking the PSU switch quickly can work. It has to be quick enough such that the system doesn't lose power but janks something and causes it to boot. Like I said, hearsay and voodoo magickery. All in all I would just return it if you still can. Get a board that actually works without problems.1 point -

Yes I agree. Soldered RAM, soldered SSDs, non-user replaceable batteries in laptops too suck! Indeed. Myself and some very smart people have spent a lot of time working on Samba so this kind of unnecessary and wasteful work that won't integrate with anything else could be avoided. SMB-3 is an optimized protocol that scales nearly linearly as NICs are added, handles wireless roaming and suspected sessions (that laptop can move and sleep, yo!) is a standard and mostly completely compatible across all implementations for the last 30 years. Furthermore, it's in your Enterprise already, has security built in at the link layer and does single sign on for both authentication and authorization. But, please do allocate resources to solving those problems and historical issues that brought us to this place without at least 20 full time devs working for decades and then get Enterprise buy in and firewall rules implemented so you can have, at best, another implementation of something that you could have had for free with the kernel integration and userland utilities on the OS you're already shipping. This is terrible resource allocation and a thrashing of the DRY principal. I can't imagine the series of decisions that brought this to be other than someone was willing to do it for free and annoying enough to keeping grinding until people with stuff to do said, "whatever, sure. Leave me alone." I should mention Samba works perfectly for Linux to Linux if SCP isn't your thing.1 point -
