What alternate universe are you from and how did you get here? don't bring the 20 years old game Artifact and Dota Underlord, both are dead they gave up with linux native gaming, they rely on emulating windows, nothing works, either graphics bug, audio issue or input issue on top of that, they charge people 30% to release on steam, as greedy as google and apple You said that "all their games flopped" which is laughably false, and the age of the game is irrelevant. Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Portal, Portal 2, Garry's Mod, Left 4 Dead, Dota 2, etc. The vast majority of their games have been massive hits, while some have even become cultural icons. To say that all of their games flopped is a ludicrous statement. As for what Valve charges to release games on Steam, judging from how successful Steam is it doesn't appear to be a problem. You know, it's perfectly ok to just say that you hate Valve without making up silly reasons to justify it.4 points -

Hello, A few things off the top of my head: Hardware replaceable CPUs, RAM and SSDs in notebook computers notebook computer docks (e.g., a dock which the computer nestles into, versus the current trend of USB/Thunderbolt "dongles") drive bays for optical drives (or a tray for an additional SSD or HDD) in notebook computers swappable batteries, both in notebook computers and in smartphones 16:10 and 4:3 displays, both in notebook computers and in standalone displays hardware switches to disable webcams and microphones, both in notebook computers and in smartphones hardware write-protect switches for BIOS (UEFI) firmware updates on motherboards (Matrox used to have these on their video cards, too!) hardware write-protect switches on USB flash drives (I believe Kanguru is the last manufacturer offering these) both USB 2.0 and PS/2 ports in desktop computers and in docks for connecting keyboards and mouses computers shipping with recovery media keyboards with sculpted tops, decent pitch and travel in notebook computers Software waterfall development of software leading to final, long-term releases (e.g., supported for multiple years) with stability and reliability as a primary goal highly-customizable Windows UI elements without having to resort to third-party tools There are probably lots of others as well, but as mentioned before, this is just off the top of my head.... There's still the slight delay before the prompt appears, which has always bugged me about PowerShell. After you've opened it a few times, it seems so quick that it's pointless to care about it. New iPhone 7 jailbreak lets you run Android on your iPhone like you clearly wanted
DaveSharp and one other reacted to macoman for a topic
I wouldn't do it if it's your primary device but if it's just a secondary or backup device then what's the worst that could happen? I'd imagine you can still throw it into DFU mode and reload fresh by connecting to a PC. At least I would hope this doesn't screw up DFU I just don't trust it... even If I have a backup iphone 7... the iphone could end up without getting back to factory settings. Just broke my IPhone 8 Plus last night. Getting back to factory shouldn't be a problem. At least its never been before. But I won't be running Android on it because its flat stupid. Especially since almost none of the reasons you have the phone for, like the camera, music, Bluetooth etc, don't work. Absolutely right, I rather buy a cheap android phone if I want android than screwing up a $250 dollars iphone.2 points -

"The original Half-Life, Valve's first game and one of the most critically lauded PC titles ever, has sold an average of one million copies every year ever since it was first released in 1998. That's an average of one million copies per year, for ten years, without counting digital sales. Wowzers. Half-Life 2 meanwhile, which was the first game to launch predominantly on Valve's Steam service, has sold more than 6.5 million copies in just four years and is still clocking up retail sales. The Orange Box has managed to sell 3 million copies at retail ever since that was released just last year and Left4Dead is currently on track to beat that record by more than 500,000 copies." https://bit-tech.net/news/gami...-half-life-sales-figures/1/ Yeah... that sure hasn't sold well at all has it...2 points -

Name something that you no longer find in hardware or software or technology in general that was present very commonly at some point in the past, and which you wish was present today and would be nice to have. I'll start: 🙃 - Laptops: Buttons for all touchpads, whether it's an ultrabook, business laptop, consumer laptop or gaming laptop (it's replaced by clickpads and forcepads) - Smartphones: LED notification light and hardware proximity sensor (replaced by Always On Display on OLED, and (virtual) software proximity sensor - PC Software: Less frequent, less breaking and more reliable Windows and app updates, some control over starting it after seeing size of update - Technology: A focus on making things user-friendly, customizable, powerful, versatile yet highly usable (currently the industry focuses on gorgeous looks but dumbing down functionality)1 point -

What I would like to know is how long that took to send back. The image was 2.43gb so using my crap math, I think it took around 158 days to send back. 8 mins * 60 seconds = 480 seconds * 32kb = 15.36 megs per day 2,430 megs / 15.36 = 158.203125 The rover has two UHF radios, which can be used to relaying to earth. An average of 14 minutes and 6 seconds is required for the signals to travel to earth. The rover can communicate with earth at up to 32 kbit/s. The majority of the data transfer is done through the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Odyssey orbiter, which can reach speeds of 2 Mbit/s and 256 kbit/s, respectively, although this can only happen for eight minutes per day.1 point -

Change font type of menus, title bars, etc like older versions of windows
+hedleigh reacted to goretsky for a topic
Hello, You can adjust font size by opening Settings, selecting System, and then Display and scrolling down until you reach the Scale and layout section. From there you can adjust the font size for the Windows desktop. To adjust colors, open Settings, select Personalization and then Colors and scroll down until you see the color picker. There are also some options to apply other changes like to wallpaper and whether to use a light or dark mode there as well. I do not think there is a color picking option like there was in older versions of Windows, although it may be available using third-party utilities. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky1 point -

Apple now lets App Store apps send ads through push notifications
dead.cell reacted to Anima The Aeon for a topic
Honestly, I don't think it's as bad as it seems. Currently, companies like Potbelly for instance use their app to send notifications of promotions for example, which I currently use to decide if I'm gonna get a 2 for 1 sandwich combo and bring someone back a free lunch. However, if the goal is to have adverts utilize a separate function that can be opted out of, it might allow users to say "Hey, I want your app notifications when I purchase something (e.g. order pizza), but I don't need promotional notifications..." Hope that makes sense. I really hope there's a differentiation. I do hate having one for Dominos and getting an advert on my screen once in awhile. Then I get emails. I just want to see when my pizza is coming and it's nice for only that.1 point -

Besides, people like old games, just look at Super Mario Maker with people making their own levels from their favorite old school styles. https://www.twitch.tv/directory Also, no, they're not charging "30% more". What do you think the cost is to license a game on Playstation or Xbox? Also, what's the point of going 88/12 if you charge your customer the same amount? So that the publisher can get more? Yet you as the customer can't even get basic functions the even Origin has? Hillarousssss! https://www.tweaktown.com/news...sts-achievements/index.html Companies that sell/distribute from their own site also don't have to pay 30% on that. It's just well known that many people will buy a game through Steam from Steam's front page, than many other places. However, that's not to stop you from doing your own self promotion. I don't want to butcher this, but there's a good article about it on Ars: https://arstechnica.com/gaming...ercent-of-steam-game-sales/ Also, last I checked, Valve at least has done more with Linux than anyone else. Epic Games bought Rocket League and guess who no longer supports Linux now... https://www.rocketleague.com/n...-support-for-mac-and-linux/1 point -
