Galaxy S20 Ultra estimated to cost Samsung $528 to produce
MS Bob 11 and 3 others reacted to n_K for a topic
$81 for a CPU? A CPU that samsung produces? $44 for RAM? RAM that samsung produces? These figures are inflated, they would be the prices if you were buying the components from a third party, cost is very different when you make the components yourself.4 points -

Please help me identify what system partitions to delete
Jim K and one other reacted to adrynalyne for a question
Something is fishy here. The first post in the other thread says it’s a new laptop and questions why manufacturers ship outdated drivers but then it’s remembered it didn’t come with Windows installed?🤨 It came with something. And MS didn’t create that partition scheme. If it were me, I would clean install Windows 10 and level all the partitions, allowing it to partition it as expected.2 points -

Microsoft releases Windows 10 build 19577 to the Fast ring with another new icon
Ve7878 and one other reacted to adrynalyne for a topic
Well Microsoft did just say that Full telemetry will be required in order to upgrade to this build, thankfully it is optional though. Par for the course as an insider. This is nothing new, MS must be getting a lot of complaints of people not being offered/cannot install newer insider builds. That’s what can happen if you fiddle with telemetry as an insider.2 points -

TCL shows off new concept phones with rollable and tri-fold displays
margrave and one other reacted to naap51stang for a topic
The slide out, I would like better, because it looks more "stable" for the display, instead of putting a crease down the middle when you fold it. Rolling it up I think would be less stressful on the display. The problem any fold/extendable display will continue to have, is that because of fold/rollable it will be more prone to damage, since you really can't put GLASS over the screen to protect it.2 points -

The Batman (March 4th, 2022: WB/,DCEU)
+primortal reacted to George P for a topic
Ben was having issues with drinking and went into rehab after JL. The odds of doing his movie were slim and plus he didn't agree with the direction of the old WB brass, so he left. Those people are no longer in charge and it looks like things are getting back on track for now. As far as why "reboot" batman, well, we're not sure this is a true reboot, Batman at JL time was older and this Batman is in year 2 so these series of films could just as well be prequels to BvS and JL just like how the wonder woman movies are. I still expect the flash movie to happen but I think they want to get this out first, they can then do flash and maybe in the process rejig the timeline a bit, then do a few other movies and bring this Batman more inline with the rest of them. Only time will tell but I think that's what we're probably going to get going forward. Maybe the sequel to this Batman or the 3rd movie will bring him and the others together again.1 point -

They need to put the animation writers, in place of the live-action writers - the animated stories are amazing, Superman Red Son is sweet, as is pretty much every other animated DC property of the past 5 years. Loads of Batman animated stories, Superman, Justice League etc. I know the Marvel money is tempting, but Id be more than happy to never see a DC live action movie again, stick to the animated movies they are truly awesome.1 point -

Why new laptops ship with old drivers?
goretsky reacted to adrynalyne for a topic
Driver utilities are the worst thing ever. They look for any file that has an older date without knowing what or why. Did you actually visually inspect these drivers in device manager to confirm it? Who was the provider? The devices? Not all files get updated regularly because they are at stable, working versions. Driver utilities don’t care who the source of the newer file is, they will run with it. Even if it’s not designed or known to work with your machine.1 point -

5 reasons not to buy the Samsung Galaxy S20
wingliston reacted to naap51stang for a topic
It's "just a phone"....but, the manufacturers play on the artistic/stylish/colorful bunch that have to hold a "work of art" in their hands. Marginal updated CPU, memory, drive space etc, but they make you pay for it. Prices of smartphones are WAY above what they should be, but until consumers say enough is enough, and say speed, display brightness are good enough for A PHONE, they will continue to pump out overpriced phones. When you see the average build cost, not counting over advertising at 300-400 dollars for these things, but they "command" upwards of 1100-1500 dollars or more (folding), it's nuts. But, it's your money, not mine. If that's what you want, feel free. I usually update AFTER a new one is released, and pick up last years "best thing" at a greatly reduced price!1 point -

Apple won't let them integrate with Siri. There were rumors it would, but outside of basic siri shortcuts it doesn't seem to be happening. There's more than one time I've pressed the siri button on my steering wheel and ask to play a song from spotify. It doesn't work. I'd be happy with a Hey Spotify option. It seems Apple is determined to make siri about as useless as possible. It won't work with non-home kit devices (which by far exceed any home kit offerings, and are constantly cheaper), non-apple music (pandora, spotify, etc..). Spotify integrates fine with Google Assistant though.1 point -

Microsoft should really put a screen on the outside of the Surface Duo
Prithwish Das reacted to JonathanMarston for a topic
Yea, this is one of the best reasons for a smart watch or at least capable device like a FitBit, if you don't need a full smart watch. So to get the best utility from this two screened device its better two have yet one more device like a smartwatch? How is this scenario better than just having a normal smartphone where you can easily see the screen. Because you have two screens on your phone? You can multitask. You can drag stuff from a website on one screen to OneNote on the other. You can use the soft keyboard in landscape without covering up what you're doing. You can skim through emails without hitting "back" between each one. If none of the above interests you it just means that this isn't the device for you. Doesn't mean that others wont find it useful.1 point -

Problem got solved (not sure how I can close this topic) The fan turning off wasn't really a problem after all. new mobo had trouble finding my screen. Moving my gpu to the pciex16 instead of the 4 solved this issue. My mobo read that one standard and couldn't find the other, at least not easily. Fair warning though for the B450 tomahawk, I would not recommend using 3th gen amd processors with them. If you have to upgrade both mobo and cpu definitely go for a X570 at least. All my problems started with that mobo, it might work fine in the beginning but problems with the cpu are likely enough to occur. thanks for the help people.1 point -
Windows 10 Dark Theme Customizations
Jane Sandpiper reacted to johnwboyd for a topic
I'm having trouble to get my custom dark theme to work accross Windows taskbar, start menu, Skype, and other programs like Open Office. I had a couple questions: 1) Can you disable the Windows Theme from screwing up your spreadsheets etc with converting and even FORCING all of the cell colors to one that's the dark theme background? 2) Is it possible to edit the source code of the dark theme to tweek the colors per section like for example it may look decent but there's no dark gray I desire for the task bar and there's always contrast conflicts such as blank black on the Settings window if I choose black text but if I choose a lighter text it's terrible readability on the folders text. It's really frustrating.1 point -

I am sure you know much more than I do about it.1 point
