The EU plans to introduce a 'right to repair' bill for phones, tablets, and laptops by 2021
suni08 and 7 others reacted to MS Bob 11 for a topic
Sounds good. Too many tech companies get away with planned and forced obsolescence under the name of "progress". It should be up to the user to decide if he wants to continue using repaired device without new features or upgrade because he wants new features, and not because the older one cannot be repaired.8 points -
The $399 Escobar Fold 1 and 2 probably aren't real, YouTuber reveals it's a Galaxy Fold
wingliston and 5 others reacted to adrynalyne for a topic
Watch the video. The going theory is that they are only sending these out to reviewers and shafting everyone else who isn’t an influencer. As in you pay, and get nothing in return. What this article doesn’t mention is that mkbhd bought the v1 AND v2 under two different names and never got either. He was “upgraded” to a v2 for his v1 order after he tweeted about them shafting him twice.6 points -

I understand where you're coming from, and I love Geralt and all the other characters, but keep in mind that many of them might appear even if you play as another protagonist. And, most importantly, also remember that it's the same studio that made The Witcher 3—that, to me, gives me confidence in the game already.2 points -

You don't need a crossover cable - anything that's 1gig or more will support auto-crossover (it's part of the spec). If you're getting an SFP DAC cable, there's no such thing as a crossover. So yes, you should be fine with either the SFP or ethernet options you've listed2 points -

I mean, there is also the question as to whether you can notice the difference too. I "feel" the difference going from Sata3 HDD to Sata3 SSD. I slightly notice the difference when going from Sata 3 SSD to NVME. UNLESS its data transfer with a big file. Then I notice a HUGE difference.1 point -

I can't really find a scenario where you can't just "plug it in then anyway". I guess it makes sense to have it on your work desk if you don't charge it over night, or a wireless pad in your car. But only if you also have wireless Carplay/Android Auto. Cable is just better.1 point -

This type of referendum came forth during a French congressional hearing, wherein major companies were berated their 'planned obsolescence' model. This is a welcome ruling, one that must be properly vetted before putting on the floor - there is a good chance that even with these methods, Chinese hackers will engineer AI that sits dormant in your phone till all security protocols have melted, and updates stop coming - this is the reason this law should be considered for proper review . ~Engineer.AI1 point -

$400 for a very mid-tier phone does not improve my view of the android scene. I'm leaning more and more towards getting an iPhone for my next upgrade. Gonna see what the iPhone SE2 has to offer when announced probably later this month then probably gonna get an iPhone XR. Can get it for about the same price and will be assured to have at least 3 to 4 years of support unlike pretty much any Android device including these Pixels. And this is coming from someone that has always chosen Android for my smartphones until now.1 point -

Three years of Nintendo Switch: Here are the best games so far
matthiew reacted to Brandon H for a topic
yeah it tries too hard to be Skyrim. the durability and completely non-linear story turned me off as well. The good story line is one of the things I love about the Zelda games. They weren't completely linear but enough to keep you on the right track in most games. I could live with weapon/shield durability but things just break TOO easily in the game. Then there's the Hylian Shield and Master Sword; why do THEY have durability? They're supposed to be the perfect weapon set of the game. Sure they self repair after a time but it still doesn't feel right to me. That said, I'm still hopeful for BotW 2; I'm hoping they learned from their mistakes and tweak things accordingly.1 point -
