Windows 10 is finally running on over a billion active devices
+EvilWalnut and 2 others reacted to peashooter for a topic
Correct, and I still don't want it, but if I want to stay with an updated OS, I guess I have to use it. Fortunately, only HAVE to use it on 2 machines out of 9! Not bad that it only took 5 years to reach their goal even after trying to cram it down people's throats and sucks they have to count every device under the sun to reach that goal. I'd still be on Windows 7 if it got updates. Actually, I have learned to like it more than previously, but still prefer using my Linux Mint machines. LOL linux fanboy are so funny, they have to shout that they use linux, and which distro And Windows fanboys just HAVE to come back with something like that! LOL Not intending to start an argument. You use what you like and I'll use what I like. cork1958 said, "And Windows fanboys just HAVE to come back with something like that! LOL" Another one they seem to come back with when you tell them Linux (for Desktop/Laptop) is pretty much virus free unlike Windows, they say Linux is not immune to viruses etc (they are technically correct) even though it's not far from it given a average user is much less likely to get infected with a virus using Linux than Windows since no one really targets Linux with viruses etc as damn near everyone uses Windows (Linux only has about 2% of the desktop/laptop market and Windows was about 88%. so it just makes more sense for the shady people to go after Windows and I suspect Linux users in general are more tech savvy than the common person which will probably make it that much harder for them to infect a Linux user). because one main advantage of Linux for the common person is that it pretty much idiot-proofs their computer and stops them from installing random software online (since nearly all websites that offer downloads to random software programs are nearly always Windows only so they won't install on Linux in Mint's default state) and loaded it up with junk. for a solid bump to browsing security online with Linux, with minimal effort... use Firejail (a sandbox program. which is easy to use (I am using the newest release from Dec 2019)) in combination with Firefox (or Chrome) to further lower there already low chances of getting hit with a virus etc when browsing. on a side note... I am surprised some average people are still using Windows 7 as you would think they would either move to Windows 10 like is typical, or switch to Linux for security sake. That whole “not far from it” makes me question your actual knowledge. My advice for the future is just don’t. That was downright ignorant. Didn’t read past because there wasn’t a point. Your telling me Linux (on desktop/laptop) is not noticeably safer than Windows when it comes to viruses? ; which is what I formed my general point around and why I made the claim that I did in that the average person is a lot less likely to stumble into a virus on Linux than they are with Windows when browsing online etc. hell, many even say you don't even need anti-virus on Linux, as there is not many Linux viruses in the wild from what I have read. that has to say a lot where as with Windows that would generally be a bad idea to go without anti-virus, especially for the average user. so what's so ignorant about what I said? ; it sounds pretty logical to me. keep in mind I am talking strictly desktop/laptop Linux OS's, NOT server or android etc. so if you think what I am saying here is still flawed, at least give a quick reason why it is. hell, on Wikipedia it even says this... "As of 2018 there had not yet been a single widespread Linux virus or malware infection of the type that is common on Microsoft Windows; this is attributable generally to the malware's lack of root access and fast updates to most Linux vulnerabilities." ; so a claim like this seems to be in favor of my basic claim that you seem to think is somehow wrong. I have not had a virus on a windows device in 10 years. WTF you doing?3 points -

Windows 10 version 2004 is here - here's what you need to know about it
adrynalyne and one other reacted to Jim K for a topic
What do you want them to do? Make a new OS called Doorway? You do realize they already told everyone that this was the last version of "Windows" to be released. I doubt we will see any new OS for at least the next 4-5years as what we have now WORKS...and WORKS FINE. Exactly! Windows 10 works in a lot of areas that previous versions of Windows was either ill-suited or didn't work at all (I've been point to Android ROM-building as a major example). Before merely WSL, you either ran a VM or ran Linux in a dual-boot or multi-boot configuration (not always practical - and especially in a non-corporate/business setting). With WSL 2, that is no longer even necessary; I run Kubuntu in - literally - the SAME partition as Windows 10 - which means it eats no more space. And I have options; it doesn't HAVE to be a 'buntu - look at the number of Linux subsystems that are options in WSL 2. You don't need Hyper-V, either; there are still some things that don't like Hyper-V. While WSL 2 can leverage it, it no longer needs it; all it needs is paravirtualization (hardware virtualization) support. (That means that if you NEED to run a traditional VM option - such as VirtualBox or vmWare - neither of which likes Hyper-V, you can.) Basically, you have greater versatility - not less. What is wrong with that? Just a point of clarification. WSL2 uses Hyper-V architecture to enable its virtualization. As such, when WSL2 is enabled; VMWare, VirtualBox (older than 6.0 ... since 6.0 and higher includes Hyper-V fallback) and other 3rd party virtualization tools may not be able to run. VMWare is working on co-existing with Hyper-V enabled hosts. Jim K - WSL 2 can USE Hyper-V; however, it neither requires OR needs it. I have WSL 2 and VirtualBox 6.0 both installed; as you correctly point out, Hyper-V and VirtualBox 6.0 and earlier still cannot co-exist. (I am troubleshooting nsjail issues in WSL 2 (nsjail is used for Android ROM building; as such I am having to run VirtualBox VMs alongside WSL 2 - which I cannot do with Hyper-V active). The default with hardware virtualization present is to enable Hyper-V (true); however, that is a Windows 10 default - it is neither required OR needed as long as hardware virtualization/paravirtualization is available. Therefore, if you want to run VirtualBox 6 alongside WSL 2 (which I do every day), simply turn Hyper-V off. hmmm... I'm guessing the WSL2 FAQ from Microsoft is wrong then ... "The newest version of WSL uses Hyper-V architecture to enable its virtualization." Indeed, Jim K. While it MAY have been true of earlier versions of WSL 2, it is not true of Windows 10 v. 2004 or later. Incorrect. WSL2 runs on a lightweight virtual machine that is based on the subset of Hyper-V.2 points -

They've now expanded it to support everything on Windows and not just UWP apps like before. They have been massively inconsistent with their dev story so this is a very valid comment. They pushed away droves of developers with their mixed messages. WinUI is only of use if you're a desktop dev and even then most enterprises use some form of 3rd party package for consistency across controls. Until WinUI is fully cross platform (Xamarin) then it's a waste of time. Don't forget MS's approach to a new standardised version of Xaml which was trumpeted and now languishes as an untouched repo.2 points -

Google Pixel 5 might not be a 'flagship' phone like previous Pixel devices
Circaflex reacted to shockz for a topic
The beginning of the end for the Pixel line. They had something good with the Nexus, then went over to the Pixel 1, which was decent. From 2 through 4, it's been outdated, overpriced and the only thing it had going for it was the camera, which is consistently being over taken or on par with other flagships. I still think my 11 pro max is a better shooter than the 4 I tested, especially for night photos. Them further de-contenting this line, to a non flagship proc is just asking for it's decently loyal customer base to abandon it, hopefully they price it accordingly, by 100-150 less than what the 4 is now, if they're serious about remaining a viable option for users tired of Samsung and Apple. I have a feeling though any price discounts will cut into their "a" line and it'll remain too high of a price, and this alienating it's customer base, and them shuttering it after a year or two.1 point -
