  5. To be fair, the UWP version wasn't all advantages historically, as most UWP apps definitely aren't. For years, it was enfeebled and only over the last year caught up in terms of some basic Skype features. Even today (before this update I mean) it doesn't best the Electron version on every Skype-feature front, but I do concede that it had a separate set of advantages on the periphery that many liked. At least updates will still be smooth, as opposed to the standalone Electron version. Though since it's the Store, they could happen at any time, musical chairs style (unless you outright disable updates for all Store apps). With the standalone version you have more control.

  11. Sony shares full specifications of the PlayStation 5

So, that bloomberg article about Sony having issues with cooling, 100% true after what they've listed. They're pushing that GPU to the max at that clock rate and only 36 CUs, in a mad dash to get closer to XSX as they can. That things going to run hot and they know it, thus the whole variable frequency on both the GPU and the CPU. Once your system gets a bit hot expect it to down clock taking your performance with it. In contrast MS made a point to say that it's clock speeds are fixed and don't change, they have more faith in their cooling system it seems.

  16. Are you implying it is 'down' a lot or more than other services? If so, do I have some bad information for you. Should we start with Google or Sony in comparison to XBox Live? They both look like jokes in terms of capacity, and uptime - and that isn't even getting into networks being attack or down due to malware for literally MONTHS. There are plenty of things to pick on XBox or xCloud - but when you pick the thing it does better than any other services in the history of the internet, you are trolling at best. +1 but he'll never reply

  21. Sony shares full specifications of the PlayStation 5

Power consumption will grow exponentially after you pass a certain clock speed for a given processor design and manufacturing node. A good example of it is intel's attempts at clocking their CPUs higher and higher to counter ryzen. Look at this table from anandtech: https://images.anandtech.com/doci/13400/9900K%20OC.png In their test a 9900K was consuming 127W at 4.7 GHz, and yet it jumped to 192W at 5 GHz. That's a massive ~51% increase in power draw for a mere ~6.3% increase of the frequency. A higher power consumption also means a higher temperature. The temperature jumped form 65 to 87 degrees. The same thing is presumably happening with PS5. Sony probably didn't expect MS to go with such a high shader count and went with a lower number. Now they are probably trying to clock the GPU as high as they can to get close to XSX's performance, but that is causing the power consumption and heat to become much harder to manage.

  22. That's true, for sure desktop windows is a mess but I honestly think the UI they're working on now for 10X will become the default on both versions in the future.

  23. Sony shares full specifications of the PlayStation 5

Why is Sony having issues with cooling and MS not? Seems like they're taking similar chip designs for the products. It's down to clock speeds, they've clocked their GPU, which has less CUs to work with, way higher than MS had to because they have more CUs to get work done with and don't have to clock that high. Higher speeds give you more heat, and why point out that their clocks can change in the first place? If this thing starts to heat up it'll clock lower to counter it.

  25. Sony shares full specifications of the PlayStation 5

Honestly, they're gonna be close anyway. I'm debating on getting one just because I never owned PS4 or XOne, but the only thing that's stirred my interest is this rumor that Sony's bought the rights to Castlevania, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear. If that comes to fruition, along with supposed plans to restore work to Silent Hills... dude, that's a no brainer. Granted, Sony also seems to be willing to push content like Horizon Zero Dawn to PC lately, but no telling how long that would take... again, if any of this is true.

  29. Looks good. Some real competition for the Surface line, IMO. Microsoft should take note because while Apple is on course to turn the iPad into a full productivity machine, Microsoft is still picking icon colors and deciding how the start menu will look. I'm not even talking about Windows 10X. Just base Windows 10 still has a very hodgepodge look and feel.

Good launch & insertion, but the first stage recovery failed. Musk said one engine shut down early creating an Engine-Out (the other 8 throttle up), so no recovery. Speculation: it looked a bit wobbly during the entry burn, and the plume looked small. Perhaps one of the 3 landing engines failed?

Yes, they look like sad places. I visited Sydney a few weeks ago and saw my very first MS Store, I soon noticed the two people inside were staff and kept walking. All the Microsoft stores in my area are pretty much dead with more employees than customers. This is the perfect guise for them to save face by closing these pointless stores.

  47. Details of entry-level Galaxy M01 running a Qualcomm processor leak

Totally agree. I get that everyone wants different things, but their current line up is far from clear or covering all bases even though they had 30 devices from 4 series last year. It's mental, and not useful if you want to know where to look for something that you'd want! Sure, give us 4 series, but a handful devices from each, and differentiate them with different focuses and sizes as follows (still comes to 24 devices if you differentiate sizes): Note Series (2) - Normal, Plus size S Series (3): Premium - Compact, Normal, Plus Size A Series (9): Mid class - Compact, Normal, Plus Size (performance focus) - Compact, Normal, Plus Size (camera focus) - Compact, Normal, Plus Size (battery life/rugged focus) M Series (9): Entry Level - Compact, Normal, Plus Size (lower cost performance focus) - Compact, Normal, Plus Size (lower cost camera focus) - Compact, Normal, Plus Size (lower cost battery life/rugged focus) Below is what Samsung released last year according to Wikipedia, their 30 devices: Note Series (2, I’ll be kind and count the 5G version as the same) Samsung Galaxy Note10/Note10 5G [August 2019] Samsung Galaxy Note10+/Note10+ 5G [August 2019] S Series (4) Samsung Galaxy S10e [February 2019] Samsung Galaxy S10 [February 2019] Samsung Galaxy S20+ [February 2020] Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra [February 2020] A Series (18) Samsung Galaxy A30 [February 2019] Samsung Galaxy A50 [February 2019] Samsung Galaxy A10 [February 2019] Samsung Galaxy A20 [March 2019] Samsung Galaxy A40 [March 2019] Samsung Galaxy A70 [March 2019] Samsung Galaxy A20e [April 2019] Samsung Galaxy A80 [April 2019] Samsung Galaxy A40s [April 2019] Samsung Galaxy A60 [April 2019][10] Samsung Galaxy A2 Core [April 2019] Samsung Galaxy A10s [August 2019] Samsung Galaxy A20s [August 2019] Samsung Galaxy A10e [August 2019] Samsung Galaxy A30s [August 2019] Samsung Galaxy A50s [August 2019] Samsung Galaxy A90 5G [September 2019] Samsung Galaxy A70s [September 2019] M Series (6) Samsung Galaxy M10 [February 2019] Samsung Galaxy M20 [February 2019] Samsung Galaxy M30 [March 2019] Samsung Galaxy M40 [June 2019] Samsung Galaxy M10s [September 2019] Samsung Galaxy M30s [September 2019]
