I just installed HWiNFO and noticed something about my two displays: It appears my older display (AOC Q2577PWQ, built late 2016) doesn't support the Standby nor Suspend features of the DPMS specification. Whereas my newer one (Gigabyte AD27QD, built late 2018) does! I imagine, if both supported both features, I wouldn't get this window-shifting each time the system timed the displays into sleep mode.2 points -

i am not seeing any thing in that screenshot that has the richness of the current file explorer. i also do not see a real reason to replace the current file explorer ( especially not only after all the work put into it since at least Windows Vista and Windows 8 ... but also because substantial improvements to display scaling were made with Windows 10 ( if I recall ... it is a very special win32 app now ). ( see here https://blogs.technet.microsof...ows-10-anniversary-update/" rel="external nofollow">https://blogs.technet.microsof...dows-10-anniversary-update/ and here https://blogs.windows.com/wind...ows-10-anniversary-update/" rel="external nofollow">https://blogs.windows.com/wind...dows-10-anniversary-update/ ). The old file explorer is so hard with a touchscreen. not for me ... ? that is why there is a ribbon. that is why there is tablet mode ( scaling explorer is the only thing it does 'right' ).1 point -

Same. I have 2000+ hours playing this game according to Steam. Sorry, I only clocked 254 hours playing the game. The last 50 hours though, I was abusing it a lot. Installed some mods like unlimited funds, activated all the zones, built the infrastructure for the largest city, express/collector style highways, dozens of subway lines, etc. Then tried to overwhelm the infrastructure with the high demand mod and couldn't. The traffic on the roads didn't congest. Grew 1 million population and became bored, because I learned the game mechanics inside out. It just stopped being interesting. 1 million with no road congestion? None? You are the first I've ever heard to do that. You should make how-to videos. Not even some of who I consider some of the best in the game, Strictoaster, Biffa, Sam Burr talk like that and Strictoaster is sponsored by Colossal Order / Paradox games. Android Advanced Protection now limits non-Play Store app installs
adrynalyne reacted to waysidesc for a topic
Why would you enrol development devices in Advanced Protection?? What if I told you...not all testers are using development devices? That's bad practice then. If someone so clearly disregards best practices (of everything) what do they want with Advanced Protection? Advanced Protection is for people who want to follow security best practices. Its not worth arguing with you. So much ignorance flying around here these days. I am a security professional and you are obviously not. I'm not the ignorant one. Let me make it clear if it wasn't: you are complaining that by activating a strict security setting, you are not allowed to use unsecure options. A security professional that knows f all about software development, especially when it comes to mobile and testing. Also, I didn’t complain about anything. Are security professionals taught to read? Developers have been left for too long on their own, "unbothered" by security (requirement, policies, etc), and that's obvious by reading posts like these. But "we've" realized that already, and there is a much bigger focus on security conscious development practices now (like SecDevOps). If' you ask me, there's not enough happening there, but we are on the right way. LOL, Apple AND Google are setup for and designed their developer process and dashboards around the testing I am referring to. Just stop. You really have no clue what you are talking about and you are arguing a moot point about security which in this case it has nothing to do with it (hence my original comment). *Sigh* I said I wasn’t going to waste my time arguing with you and here I am. I do know what I'm talking about. But if we look at your original comment, you don't. It's not something you can turn off, it's something you need to turn on actively, and get two physical security keys first (I'm not sure if physical is still a hard requirement now). And testing on production devices is never a good thing. If you are someone who does it alone at home, maybe no one tells you not to. But if you are working at a company, that's not ideal. Woosh. Someone has never heard of beta testers lol. Almost makes you wonder what the beta release channels are for under Google and Test Flight for Apple. I guess you know better, of course. I’ll give you a hint: they aren’t using development devices 🤣 bah ... far be it from me, adrynalyne, but ... just ignore him. that is what i am doing. i mean ... he is a 'security professional' yet he asked you why developers would want advanced protection ... ... just ignore him. Developers can or should have Advanced Protection on their private and (production) work devices. They shouldn't have it on their test devices (because they won't be able to test on them then). Make fun of this if you'd like to, but that just shows that you are not professionals. Just because having security is not obvious in the developer community doesn't mean that it's not a must have. Some companies already realized that, hopefully everyone will realize it not too soon. http://www.commitstrip.com/en/...-too-expensive-try-a-hack/" rel="external nofollow">http://www.commitstrip.com/en/...y-too-expensive-try-a-hack/ Oh; I am not making fun of any thing—I am flat out saying it. You are the one who asked the question. ... And now you bash adrynalyne ( and myself, about whom you especially do not know a thing ). You are the one who asked adrynalyne why a developer would enroll a development device in a security feature. You got caught up in the incongruity of that question and your assertion of being a 'security professional' and now you bash both him and I as not being 'professionals' which, if i have to drive this home is completely ironic since you were the one who asked that question ! 'Developers can or should have Advanced Protection on their private and (production) work devices. They shouldn't have it on their test devices (because they won't be able to test on them then). Make fun of this if you'd like to, but that just shows that you are not professionals.' That is ... cute. It is also completely contradicted by the question you asked adrynalyne : 'Why would you enrol [sic] development devices in Advanced Protection??'.1 point -

do you still use windows mobile 6.5?
waysidesc reacted to goretsky for a topic
Hello, Windows Mobile 6.5 was okay for the time. As far as the user interface went, it more closely resembled Windows 95 and didn't deviate too far from that--the hex or staggered layout was okay. Windows Phone 7's UI, which was derived in part from Zune, was much more innovative in my opinion. Sadly, neither the Zune nor Windows Phone were successes in the market. If they're not careful, their customers may realize that they can just buy all their games through online platforms such as the Microsoft Store, Playstation Store, Steam, Epic, etc. That might affect them when the world resumes normal operation. Though Target and other stores might have a better argument for being an 'essential service' then.1 point -

Hoarding toilet paper?
Shannon B reacted to Bobslay for a topic
OK, pointless discussion on the web #6,456 but here we go. You were the one who said hoarding toilet paper made sense and people shouldn't mock it. The thing that we are all mocking is the fact that people are prioritizing toilet paper as the number one thing they can't live without if they are isolated. That's the item stores are running out of, not food, not water. I can't live without food or water, neither can you. I can live without toilet paper, I'd prefer not to but if I had none I wouldn't die. So, you have to ask yourself why people have chosen this one item? The reason is because they are being told my media, their friends, that people are bulk buying it so others do too because "that must be a good idea". It's not a good idea, that's why people are mocking it. If people were panic buying everything (which, if they believe Armageddon is coming, they should) then we wouldn't be hearing/seeing the toilet roll famine of 2020.1 point -
