If there was a national emergency, wouldn't you want to be annoyed and woken up? And not like these things happen often. Text: "Country is being invaded"... Citizen: "Don't bother me, I am sleeping" I also cannot remember the last time, or if, I got a msg from the Government about a national emergency.3 points -

Um, yeah. You know what, in this day and age I expect the government to be able to communicate vital information to the public in a simple and efficient manner. I don't care if a few people get annoyed because it disrupted their beauty sleep. BTW, I got the message this morning on Three. My phone was on mute because I'm in the office (work from home starts tomorrow), and I wasn't disturbed. So your FUD seems to be unfounded.2 points -

'Unfortunately, the government had to work with mobile carriers to get its message out because it doesn’t have an emergency alert system set up, despite successful trials in 2014' What's unfortunate about that? BBC trying to spread yet more nonsense. All you hear from people about the canadian/american emergency alert systems is they're incredibly annoying, un-mutable, wake people up, etc. Thank goodness we didn't have that trash added here.2 points -

i sold my Samsung Note 9 and i'm not going to buy any Samsung phones if they don't use Snapdragon chips for my region... i bought Xiaomi Mi 9T pro instead. Btw this video https://bit.ly/2UvQdnF shows exactly what's going on with newly released phones by Samsung the snapdragon version of new phones is completely another phone imo, Samsung phones with Exynos Chip are half the phone with full price. you got to be stupid to pay for it especially with new phones.2 points -
Samsung fans petition for the company to stop using Exynos processors
Geezy and one other reacted to Joshie for a topic
I don't care which is better -- I care that it means the same device has two unpredictably different levels of support for the life of the product depending on where you are. When a customer experiences a bug and finds out it "only affects the snapdragon models", Samsung is doing something wrong. It's not just a pain for the consumer, it's gotta be an unwelcome, seemingly pointless hassle for their own developers and customer support services. If they want to use Exynos, cool. Use it -- everywhere. If they want to use Snapdragon, cool. Use it -- everywhere. If one of the two can't be used in all regions for some reason, and the other can, you've got your answer. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that.2 points -
Half-Life: Alyx is now available on Steam for virtual reality headset owners
Blar and one other reacted to RejZoR for a topic
I guess I'll never know the story around how Combines were around early in the story... There is no way in hell I'm gonna spend hundreds of € on headsets that'll be usable for this one (probably amazing) game and then it'll be collecting dust in some corner. I'll rather get a graphic card with ray tracing capability for that money and enjoy that in a lot of games instead of this VR that's still so overhyped and with literally no traction even after years now...2 points -

@kalkal ...to follow up (now that I'm at my computer) ... if the powercfg -lastwake doesn't give you an answer ... it very well could be Windows Update. This is under task scheduler > Microsoft > Windows > UpdateOrchestrator It could also be another program/task scheduler entry ... you can run the following in Powershell (run as Admin) which will give you a listing of all Task Scheduler entries which will "wake to run" Get-ScheduledTask | where {$_.settings.waketorun} You will get something like... Anyway ... hope one of these things help you find your issue.1 point -

Microsoft throttles some its services due to high demand
Danielx64 reacted to neufuse for a topic
Did you know what you are talking about? AWS doesn't appear to have these issues. I'm going to say this has more to do with Office services then Azure, Azure can handle massive computing fine... this is just them tweaking office services to reduce strain on office systems, not azure directly. Sharepoint does a lot in the background and can consume significant resources if you ever redeployed an on-prem version of it you would know what I mean.1 point -

Driver/software Update App for Windows. Large supported base needed. Is there any?
Brandon H reacted to +Warwagon for a question
I'm with Brandon on Patchmypc .. while Sumo may have a much larger software database, Patchmypc includes the most commonly installed applications. Plus, the only applications they allow, are those with option of a "Silent / unattended" install, which means if you open patchmypc and it says it wants to update 10 apps, it will do so one after the other automatically with no user interaction.1 point -

greensabath reacted to Figure 8 Dash for a topic
I've seen reports of organizations adopting the Surface Go because of its size, pen support, and portability. While all those things remain the same if Microsoft switched to an ARM processor, I'd imagine x86 support was a major factor in organizations choosing the Go. The Go has a niche. Probably not the niche Microsoft wanted but it is what it is. Switching to ARM now might dramatically harm sales. What Microsoft needs is a Go 2 and a Go X with ARM.1 point -

I hope that was tongue in cheek? If not, you do realise that there are a lot of users who don't have a smart phone? Stuff like this you work to the lowest common denominator. Every mobile in the last nearly 25 years can do SMS. Considerably less than half can do iMessage. Which is the better option to get the message out to the most users?1 point -

dustojnikhummer reacted to trag3dy for a topic
I guess you have not been hearing about this for the past 4 months... This game is flop Based on what evidence? This game single handedly sold out VR units all over the world. Valve can't make index units fast enough to meet demand. Everything seems to indicate that no matter how good the game actually is, it is not a flop. Yeah, coz they couldn't sell ###### otherwise lol. And after people finish Alyx, those 500+ € headsets will be ultimate dust collecting units again. Best investment ever, would buy again! This is probably the kind of thing older adults said way back when the early gaming machines were coming out. "Why would you waste money on that when you can go outside and be active???"1 point -

If I am not mistaken they have some exclusivity agreement due to patents, the deal dates as back as 1993: https://www.androidcentral.com...amsung-selling-exynos-chips There are also more than one licencing agreement which prevents Samsung from selling their own modem based processors in the United States. Active noise cancellation on earphone is anyways not a good choice! You wanna die on the road? and it does not work that well in small form factor devices anyways, due to lake of space between microphones. How would I die because of active noise cancellation sitting on my daily commute? The AirPods Pro, Bose QC25 and the Sony WF-1000XM3 all have decent active noise cancellation.1 point -
