Samsung fans petition for the company to stop using Exynos processors
Geezy and one other reacted to Joshie for a topic
I don't care which is better -- I care that it means the same device has two unpredictably different levels of support for the life of the product depending on where you are. When a customer experiences a bug and finds out it "only affects the snapdragon models", Samsung is doing something wrong. It's not just a pain for the consumer, it's gotta be an unwelcome, seemingly pointless hassle for their own developers and customer support services. If they want to use Exynos, cool. Use it -- everywhere. If they want to use Snapdragon, cool. Use it -- everywhere. If one of the two can't be used in all regions for some reason, and the other can, you've got your answer. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that.2 points -

I've seen reports of organizations adopting the Surface Go because of its size, pen support, and portability. While all those things remain the same if Microsoft switched to an ARM processor, I'd imagine x86 support was a major factor in organizations choosing the Go. The Go has a niche. Probably not the niche Microsoft wanted but it is what it is. Switching to ARM now might dramatically harm sales. What Microsoft needs is a Go 2 and a Go X with ARM.1 point -

Hopefully keep track of them by phone too. And if they are seen leaving for anything besides a grocery store, pharmacy, doctors office, or some other essential activity that necessitates leaving the home the cops go after them. It is a country use to surveillance after all. I wish the U.S. would implement such strict measures. We aren't going to flatten the infection curve with disparate policies between states and no central/federal lockdown. US is probably gonna end up being worse than Italy less than a week from now because of tepid to nonexistent leadership among those tasked with governing. We got carnival barkers as politicians that value the stock market more than human lives. Once the horrific videos of major US hospitals come out of people being denied care for serious things because of a lack of beds, doctors, and nurses and super critical having to be prioritized over kinda critical it's going to be a rude awakening for all the people complaining that they can't get drunk at the bars or dine in or go to movie theaters. As well as the people complaining about the economy and saying the response to this pandemic is overblown. It's going to be a major jolt to the system for a lot of Americans that have their head in the sand. The 'it's just the flu, bro' people will slink away and hide in shame by the end of the week.1 point -

It's weird that you say that. I remember when we had computers with very without 3d cards, then they saw quake running... and people were like not spending just for games! then 3dfx took over and the rest was history. Now, like yourself, just see 3d card as a thing you buy. VR is a different experience, but unlike 3d cards, you can't see it on a flat screen. You really do have to experience it, and you might have but a lot of people haven't and that's causing problems with the uptake of headsets and thus developers getting into vr only games... instead of tacking on VR to a flat screen game. Think about it, can you imagine any fps games you play having a non 3d part to it? so the people who didn't buy a 3d card could play it? your 3d games would be pretty limited. Thats he same problem VR has, and why valve (could not have) hasn't released a keyboard and mouse port of it. It just doesn't work that way for the type of game they're trying to provide in VR. Hopefully, like with Quake, this changes what it means for VR. Its just a shame the majority of people can't see what VR feels like via their monitors.1 point -
Android Advanced Protection now limits non-Play Store app installs
adrynalyne reacted to waysidesc for a topic
Why would you enrol development devices in Advanced Protection?? What if I told you...not all testers are using development devices? That's bad practice then. If someone so clearly disregards best practices (of everything) what do they want with Advanced Protection? Advanced Protection is for people who want to follow security best practices. Its not worth arguing with you. So much ignorance flying around here these days. I am a security professional and you are obviously not. I'm not the ignorant one. Let me make it clear if it wasn't: you are complaining that by activating a strict security setting, you are not allowed to use unsecure options. A security professional that knows f all about software development, especially when it comes to mobile and testing. Also, I didn’t complain about anything. Are security professionals taught to read? Developers have been left for too long on their own, "unbothered" by security (requirement, policies, etc), and that's obvious by reading posts like these. But "we've" realized that already, and there is a much bigger focus on security conscious development practices now (like SecDevOps). If' you ask me, there's not enough happening there, but we are on the right way. LOL, Apple AND Google are setup for and designed their developer process and dashboards around the testing I am referring to. Just stop. You really have no clue what you are talking about and you are arguing a moot point about security which in this case it has nothing to do with it (hence my original comment). *Sigh* I said I wasn’t going to waste my time arguing with you and here I am. I do know what I'm talking about. But if we look at your original comment, you don't. It's not something you can turn off, it's something you need to turn on actively, and get two physical security keys first (I'm not sure if physical is still a hard requirement now). And testing on production devices is never a good thing. If you are someone who does it alone at home, maybe no one tells you not to. But if you are working at a company, that's not ideal. Woosh. Someone has never heard of beta testers lol. Almost makes you wonder what the beta release channels are for under Google and Test Flight for Apple. I guess you know better, of course. I’ll give you a hint: they aren’t using development devices 🤣 bah ... far be it from me, adrynalyne, but ... just ignore him. that is what i am doing. i mean ... he is a 'security professional' yet he asked you why developers would want advanced protection ... ... just ignore him. Developers can or should have Advanced Protection on their private and (production) work devices. They shouldn't have it on their test devices (because they won't be able to test on them then). Make fun of this if you'd like to, but that just shows that you are not professionals. Just because having security is not obvious in the developer community doesn't mean that it's not a must have. Some companies already realized that, hopefully everyone will realize it not too soon. http://www.commitstrip.com/en/...-too-expensive-try-a-hack/" rel="external nofollow">http://www.commitstrip.com/en/...expensive-try-a-hack/" rel="external nofollow">http://www.commitstrip.com/en/...expensive-try-a-hack/" rel="external nofollow">http://www.commitstrip.com/en/...-too-expensive-try-a-hack/" rel="external nofollow">http://www.commitstrip.com/en/...y-too-expensive-try-a-hack/ Oh; I am not making fun of any thing—I am flat out saying it. You are the one who asked the question. ... And now you bash adrynalyne ( and myself, about whom you especially do not know a thing ). You are the one who asked adrynalyne why a developer would enroll a development device in a security feature. You got caught up in the incongruity of that question and your assertion of being a 'security professional' and now you bash both him and I as not being 'professionals' which, if i have to drive this home is completely ironic since you were the one who asked that question ! 'Developers can or should have Advanced Protection on their private and (production) work devices. They shouldn't have it on their test devices (because they won't be able to test on them then). Make fun of this if you'd like to, but that just shows that you are not professionals.' That is ... cute. It is also completely contradicted by the question you asked adrynalyne : 'Why would you enrol [sic] development devices in Advanced Protection??'. by development devices I've obviously meant test devices. Yes, why would you actively enable a feature that stops you from using that device for what you intended it to be used and then complain that it stops you. As long as you are using test devices only for testing (sideloading unpublished apps) Advanced Protection is not for you. If you are using production devices for testing unfinished / sideloaded apps, then we are back at what we discussed, at an irresponsible behavior. ... There was no such distinction in your post; you cannot ... shove that toothpaste back in the tube. Regardless, it would not alter the invalidation of your other commentary ... particularly the reason for your writing ... 'Yes, why would you actively enable a feature that stops you from using that device for what you intended it to be used and then complain that it stops you.' adrynalyne did not do this—not once. Not only that, you took his initial comment to discharge details and thoughts irrelevant to the comment—to make a arbitrary distinction(s) and a arbitrary inference(s) about some thing he did not even write ... in an apparent effort to lecture him.1 point -

dead.cell reacted to techbeck for a topic
Why is Amazon bad? Never had an issue and anything I needed to returned, no issue there either. More than once I've gotten items that were clearly used when sold as new. Worst amazon experience: Last year we ordered a Samsung Soundbar (sold directly from Amazon, as new), received item, opened it up and the bar was literally bent in the middle, and would not lay flat. Finger prints, marks near the ports. We needed it working the next day, as we were hosting a superbowl party. Went to Best Buy, got the exact same model (on sale actually, for $40 bucks less), opened it up and we could tell how used the one from Amazon was... all the shrink wrap, sticky tape covering the plastics, etc... were not on the bar like they were from the one BestBuy had. I frequently receive items that were clearly opened, returned from them. When it comes to expensive electronics, I'll usually get it from Best Buy or Micro Center. Huh, never had that issue on Amazon. You asked why amazon was bad, I provided an example. I got it. I just never had that issue and do not know who has. AT least Amazon's return policy is really good.1 point -
