  1. I find it fascinating that Neowin is willingly reporting on and linking to material that can be pirated. Seriously, read the reddit post where he is thinking about uploading an entire episode. Looks like Google removed his clip upload from drive as well. That would would earn any member a warning and post removal, if not an outright ban.

You can run Linux apps on it through Crostini/Crouton. Still, I'd expect more RAM for 1000 dollars, and an i7 processor too.

  16. Which MS Office for a one off purchase?

Depends on your needs. What kind of work would you be doing? Based on that your options are: 1) Office 2010. It might still work absolutely fine for simple documents and spreadsheets. 2) Office Online. It is the most basic and FREE version of the modern Office. It has all the basic features but I am not sure whether all Office 2010 features are in here (even if so, only certain advanced features in Office 2010 may be missing). All you need is a free Microsoft Account (Outlook/Hotmail/Live account). Remember, this needs an active Internet connection to work. Files are stored in OneDrive which can later be downloaded. This is how the modern Office suite looks and feels like, so give it a try and see if it suits you. Go to https://www.office.com 3) Office Home & Student 2019. $149.99 If you just need the latest Word, Excel and PowerPoint for personal use. However, Microsoft really wants you to buy Office 365 . Go to https://products.office.com/en-us/compare-all-microsoft-office-products?activetab=tab:primaryr1 4) Office Home & Business 2019. $249.99 You get Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote for commercial use. However again, Microsoft really wants you to buy Office 365 . Go to https://products.office.com/en-us/get-started-with-office-2019#compare_table 5) Office 365 Personal/Home/Business. This is the subscription service that offers always-up-to-date versions of Office and at least 1TB OneDrive storage based on the plan. I understand that you don't want subscriptions but if you use Cloud storage (OneDrive/Google Drive/Dropbox/iCloud/Box) considerably, it is a very good deal. I seriously doubt Microsoft would offer Office as a standalone product in another 10 years time, so if you absolutely don't want subscriptions ever, buy options 3 or 4 for future-proofing. For simple needs go for Option 2, else Option 5. There are always open source software like OpenOffice and LibreOffice but they will have compatibility issues when you are trying to share your files with others, even if you convert them to the Office file formats. They are good if you only work on your PC and don't send/share the file to someone else. (But this is my opinion, others may differ)

  17. Which MS Office for a one off purchase?

The current version of Microsoft Office is a comprehensive set of cloud offerings paired with a set of desktop clients. NOT the other around. The stand-alone licenses are anachronistic and you forgo 2/3rds of the benefits and functionality. If you require simply to edit documents locally and forgo the cloud features then there are many free and low cost document editors out there: libreoffice.org, freeoffice, onlyoffice, etc. in fact, why use windows at all and simply use Linux.

  18. Actually, it is more of a recognition that there are cross-usage cases involving Microsoft 365 - and always have been. Do the naysayers have a clue how many businesses - and especially small businesses - are run from home? (If anything, Covid-19 is making that more obvious than ever.) It was obvious to me over two decades ago - and I went after it as my niche. Because of Covid-19, Microsoft 365 has to be able to scale down to as few as five seats. Can it do so? Of course it can; if you look at per-seat licensing, we all know it can go that small; it goes that small for non-business licenses every danged day. If it can go that small for non-business licenses, why can't it go that little for small business? Microsoft is paying attention to small business because it now HAS to; small business (I'm talking twenty-five seats or less) is a horrendously-undertapped market - and especially by Microsoft - and Microsoft has the tools to tap it - and especially Azure. Why would Azure NOT be of use for small business? Individuals tap Azure every day; why can't small business do so? (The same is true of AWS, of course.) However, Azure - and Microsoft - are better positioned to go after small business than Amazon and AWS because - unlike Amazon - or AWS - Microsoft is largely already there - via Windows - or Office - or both.

  20. Please... if it would include the traditional Paper Mario... That'd be awesome! No more sticker garbage! Apparently it'll be closer to the N64 and GameCube Paper Mario games, so that should be good news. I'm not sure remastered versions are planned, seems like it's a completely new game they're talking about.

HAHAHA Yea wouldn't surprise me dude. I happen to have the exact chip (i3-6100) that I purchased when I built my PC (now an i7-7700k). I was just as shocked when I checked Intel's website. I've got the memory DDR3 ECC 10600R DIMMS @ 8gigabyte, so I wanna make sure that whatever I purchase, be a server or just a new mains board, the memory can be utilised. I was looking at ctoservers.co.uk and was gonna look at purchasing either a Dell or a HPE. Not sure at the moment, but am willing to take any community advise in to account. Thanks again @Mindovermaster

  31. Which MS Office for a one off purchase?

Unless you really need MS Office, there are plenty of open source office suites, such as Libreoffice that work the same way that MS Office does. But if you are determined to keep MS then I believe that 2010 will work in Windows 10

  34. SpaceX rival, OneWeb, files for bankruptcy due to COVID-19

The U.S. Government cannot gain a controlling interest in a public company. Stop spreading lies! Sure they can. It's been done in the past. "Taking stakes in companies is not without precedent in times of crisis. The Bush and Obama administrations loaned the auto industry, including General Motors and Chrysler, which is now controlled by Italy’s Fiat, $80 billion to avoid the collapse of the industry that they felt would result in the loss of millions of U.S. jobs. The U.S. government spent about $50 billion to bail out GM alone. As a result of the company’s 2009 bankruptcy, the government’s investment was converted to a 61 percent equity stake in the Detroit-based automaker, plus preferred shares and a loan. The government no longer has a stake in the company. Just last month, U.S. Attorney General William Barr said the United States and its allies should consider taking a “controlling stake” in Finland’s Nokia and Sweden’s Ericsson to counter China-based Huawei’s dominance in next-generation 5G wireless technology." https://www.reuters.com/articl...in-companies-idUSKBN21634I" rel="external nofollow">https://www.reuters.com/articl...ain-companies-idUSKBN21634I they can, they just cant own voting shares... so they really have no control over the company

  37. Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access)

I was getting right into the feels of it all.... when they brought Picard back to life... What a complete waste of three very emotional scenes. We know there's a season 2. They should have ended season 1 with a dead Picard and bring him back in S2. Also, Riker should have stuck around for his old captain's death scene. Him leaving like that was just dumb, and missed a huge opportunity as at least with him, we FEEL the emotional connection whereas with this new crew, we barely know them and aren't exactly attached to them. Also, what's with Rafi and Seven suddenly getting all hand holdy? I don't mind if they have a relationship or anything, but where the hell in the last 10 episodes did THAT come from?!

  43. Site question

It's not sporadic, it is dependant on the sub-forum. If you post something in a help section it asks to provide a best answer according to the responses that you receive. If you post in a General forum there is no best answer, so it is first post, first serve. Your thread is in an area where you are looking for an answer, so the best answer format is incorporated.

Not in the least would be my opinion from what have seen. Yeah would make sense if he set that mess up 😉 I might be able to find some time to remote in and fix it up.. Not like any of us our about town these days 😉 if you don't have a problem with that... Let me know, @sc302 has been known to fix up users systems remotely as well.. He is guru for sure.. One of the few people around here I would trust to touch my systems even.. He might even be better because unless something has changed, he deals with windows systems day to day.. While I don't - more on the security and network side for many years. I still tinker in my lab and such, and consult when they run into ###### they can't figure out at work 😉 hehehe... All I would ask is maybe you donate what you feel appropriate to a good cause of your choosing.. Non religious based would be my only stipulation 😉

  49. There's no need to remove tablet mode, the above change isn't to tablet mode anyways. It's a small tweak to the desktop when you switch to touch only by taking your kb+mouse/touchpad off your 2-in-1 device. And app snapping is just a evolution of stuff that's been around since Windows 7 or maybe even Vista. Why remove it? You can use it on your desktop without issue if you want to set apps side by side or 4x4 etc.
