Apple is asking retail workers to take on tech support roles
dead.cell and one other reacted to n_K for a topic
"Although Apple promised to pay employees while they are not working, some workers informed Bloomberg that they were being urged by their managers to participate in the program" This is what I don't get, the company is paying you, why do you think you deserve a free holiday to get paid and do literally nothing? Same story in the UK, people will be getting 80% of their wage paid for by the government and not working which is fine to me, but then you get these ungrateful that are not staying at home or think it's a holiday to go and do whatever they please with... No, it's a pandemic emergency, follow the rules, and if your company is still paying you and they ask you to do something within your job role that's safe to do - FROM HOME, what valid reason do they have not to do it?2 points -

wingliston reacted to +Warwagon for a topic
Only 30% of people? LOL ... It's gotta be much more in my personal experience with the average person. 1 in 10? It seems a bunch much. I have more than 10 and non of mine get a virus every month. I have all my really important files backed up on 3 disconnected USB Flash Drives and 3 WD Red Hard drives. One of the 3 flash drives is in a safety deposit box and 1 of the WD red drives is in a safety deposit box. They get rotated frequently. 1 of the hard drives is inside a file server and gets backed up to nightly. It also does an online backup nightly as well. Quickbooks Gets backed up nightly to a usb flash drive and to a file server which then gets backed up that same night to another hard drive. It also does an encrypted backup online. THen once a week it gets backed up to the 2 disconnected usb flash drives. Then once a month it gets backed up to one of the 2 WD red drives.1 point -
Microsoft Edge is getting vertical tabs, Password Monitor, and more
wotsit reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Tabs aside is 'collections' You can save all your open tabs in a window to a new or existing collection. Tab reviews is weird cause it is in Chrome for ages. Don't know why it is not in Edge. I want that custom background for the new tab page they have been talking about 'coming september 2019' Probably because it's NOT in Chromium by default. OR if it IS in chromium by default, Microsoft may have removed it initially to build in other Edge features. Chrome's Tab preview is a trash implementation. Not stable, uses alternative rendering crap, show and doesn't offer real-time functionality, making it significantly less useful. Microsoft wants a seamless rendering implementation like EdgeHTML; however, this is hard to tap into without a consistent OS accessible composer, which is a problem outside Windows and osx.1 point -
Which MS Office for a one off purchase?
waysidesc reacted to Technique for a question
Thanks. Googling comparisons between 2010 and 2019 i'm not really sure what 2019 gives me over 2019 other than 'new stuff' that i actually probably wont need based on what i use the office suite for. If i was a suit & tie business guy then maybe but i'm not. On that note it may be better then that i just stick with 2010 but i thought i'd at least look in to an alternative. If i can acquire 2019 cheaply like i did with 2010 then maybe but otherwise probably not. Regards the support, i'm not totally sure why that'd be a big issue for someone like me. I just create a few documents and spreadsheets here and there. Perhaps it would become an issue if i was using Outlook which i may or may not do when i shift to W10. I'm more than happy with Windows Live Mail and since Thunderbird looks a lot like WLM, i'll probably opt for that. Still, thanks for the feedback.1 point -

Microsoft Edge is getting vertical tabs, Password Monitor, and more
ShahinD reacted to SuperTamago for a topic
Tab Preview is a must. I'm not so sure why Edge team is taking too much time to implement this one, while Vertical Tabs which is a significant UI change is coming soon. Tab Previews can work for both top and vertical tabs or even if they ever make a Tablet Mode UI for Edge. About Set Tabs Aside, I do miss this but since Collections gain a menu to add tabs in a collection, this essentially replaces Set Aside Tabs now, but Microsoft so far hasn't officially confirmed this. It just lacks a dedicated button like on Set Tabs Aside which I think they should put it as an option and market that this feature exist. Other Edge Legacy features that is hugely missing are the Windows Ink for Web pages, and Windows Timeline support.1 point -

Which MS Office for a one off purchase?
devHead reacted to waysidesc for a question
I probably would stay with Office 2010 ... Based on your experiences and usage ... it does not seem that you would need any thing more than Office 2010 ... The only issue about which I would be concerned is that all support for Office 2010 ends later this year ... If you must upgrade to a perpetual version for Windows 10 I would recommend Office 2019 ...1 point -
