Sounds interesting, but 1. how long is the boost for? 5 minutes? 30 seconds? 2. Yeah I'd still choose an AMD option with their 4000 series, thanks. I'm happy to be back in the AMD fold with my 3900X. Amazing performance. 3. Still vulnerable to Spectre/Meltdown etc? Roll on Surface Book 3, hopefully with an AMD option.4 points -

I wouldn't buy a new Intel CPU based system right now. First, AMD is coming with much faster and more power efficient APU's for notebooks with the Ryzen 4000 series. Second, Intel is still prone to many security issues that require software patches which will slow down your system or can't even get patched and third, prices for Intel based notebooks are higher.3 points -

Don't make the mistake of comparing AMD and Intel's TDP numbers. They don't calculate this the same way. But more importantly, they are marketing-driven numbers that are reverse-engineered into a half-assed formula that is based on temperature, not power consumption! Who says they become obsolete? All my smartphones (bar one that had a hardware fault) have lived 3-4 years easy. It's people's mindset that ask for new and shiny that sees phones switched out for newer models every 1-2 years. The phones themselves often perform just fine.1 point -

Zoom vulnerability can let hackers steal users' Windows credentials
+DonC reacted to random_n for a topic
This is a very old trick. Block SMB egress at your firewall. Mobile device? Block SMB to internet address space via Windows Firewall. Doing both doesn't hurt, and isn't hard to do. This was a big deal when Internet Explorer was still a choice that could be rationalized. The better fix is to disable NTLM authentication entirely, but that is admittedly hard to achieve at scale and some Win32 apps don't take well to it with how the NTLM disable GPO kneecaps the APIs in msv1_0.dll. Curiously, using the Protected Users group achieves the same result without breaking quite so much by technically permitting outgoing NTLM, but always doing it with an invalid password. It would be nice for Microsoft to work on improving NTLM control at some point. Using strengthy passwords that can't be so easily reversed from the Net-NTLMv2/MD4 hash is also a good mitigation. Means 12+ character passwords, and ideally scanned against breached password+variant lists. The old 8 character guidance isn't enough to protect against a stolen Net-NTLMv2 hash - with modern cracking hardware (pile of GPUs), those can be reversed in a little as a few minutes, and at worst a few days for highly complex 8-character password. 12+ characters is still good on the multiple-years timescale.1 point -

Google Duo now supports up to 12 people in a group video call
greensabath reacted to cacoe for a topic
Technically, Duo can work on any device with the duo.google.com website. However, again, I don't know anyone that uses Duo. It's built into Android, so people have it if they have a later Android version. But they probably use Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger by default. Google was wrong to come out with a different branded product. They should have just called it the "new" Hangouts and removed the current Hangouts (which they are doing anyway). I use it with 5 other people I know I know that's tiny but I imagine there are thousands of little pools of people who do use it.1 point -
[C++] How to return an enumeration?
kushal7777 reacted to +Xinok for a question
Enum itself is not a type, it defines a type much like struct / class do. First, you have to define an enumerator. // Define Enumerator enum GameState{ Zero, One, Two, Three, Four }; // Define value GameState eGameStateCurrent = GameState. One; // Get value GameState getGameState(){ return eGameStateCurrent; } // Set value void setGameState(GameState value){ eGameStateCurrent = value; } Hope this helps.1 point
