  3. Sounds interesting, but 1. how long is the boost for? 5 minutes? 30 seconds? 2. Yeah I'd still choose an AMD option with their 4000 series, thanks. I'm happy to be back in the AMD fold with my 3900X. Amazing performance. 3. Still vulnerable to Spectre/Meltdown etc? Roll on Surface Book 3, hopefully with an AMD option.

  4. Zoom to fix security and privacy issues in 90-day feature freeze

A different approach to software development--fix bugs and vulnerabilities before adding more features. This is as it should be and should have always been--apparently forgotten by other major software developers.

  5. I wouldn't buy a new Intel CPU based system right now. First, AMD is coming with much faster and more power efficient APU's for notebooks with the Ryzen 4000 series. Second, Intel is still prone to many security issues that require software patches which will slow down your system or can't even get patched and third, prices for Intel based notebooks are higher.

  6. Don't make the mistake of comparing AMD and Intel's TDP numbers. They don't calculate this the same way. But more importantly, they are marketing-driven numbers that are reverse-engineered into a half-assed formula that is based on temperature, not power consumption! Gamers Nexus covered this extensively a few months ago: https://www.gamersnexus.net/gu...ooler-manufacturer-opinions

  13. YouTube's TikTok rival is reportedly called 'Shorts'

it kinda is, giving that it is run by a Chinese company. We got no idea what the gov't is doing with all those videos outside of building a database of every persons face to help with it's surveillance. How is it any different than any American company? There are several cases where American companies have been caught sharing data with the us government!

  21. Zoom vulnerability can let hackers steal users' Windows credentials

To be fair In this one case, this is a windows design issue that all applications on Windows have to mitigate. No... A poor software implementation on a platform is not a design issue with the platform.

  22. Bing is apparently getting a Fluent Design logo, too

Why don't you apply for a Windows development job at Microsoft? It's easier to make changes on a search engine than a widely used operating system. It could take another 5 or more years to completely move away from Win32. Translation : I am not allowed to criticize.

  31. Who says they become obsolete? All my smartphones (bar one that had a hardware fault) have lived 3-4 years easy. It's people's mindset that ask for new and shiny that sees phones switched out for newer models every 1-2 years. The phones themselves often perform just fine.

  34. Cloudflare is bringing WARP to macOS and Windows

I loved that OS I still have the CD, I still remember that fish video that was on that disc, and using it to check if my video and sound cards were properly configured. I ran that before Windows 95, it was impressive.

  39. This is a very old trick. Block SMB egress at your firewall. Mobile device? Block SMB to internet address space via Windows Firewall. Doing both doesn't hurt, and isn't hard to do. This was a big deal when Internet Explorer was still a choice that could be rationalized. The better fix is to disable NTLM authentication entirely, but that is admittedly hard to achieve at scale and some Win32 apps don't take well to it with how the NTLM disable GPO kneecaps the APIs in msv1_0.dll. Curiously, using the Protected Users group achieves the same result without breaking quite so much by technically permitting outgoing NTLM, but always doing it with an invalid password. It would be nice for Microsoft to work on improving NTLM control at some point. Using strengthy passwords that can't be so easily reversed from the Net-NTLMv2/MD4 hash is also a good mitigation. Means 12+ character passwords, and ideally scanned against breached password+variant lists. The old 8 character guidance isn't enough to protect against a stolen Net-NTLMv2 hash - with modern cracking hardware (pile of GPUs), those can be reversed in a little as a few minutes, and at worst a few days for highly complex 8-character password. 12+ characters is still good on the multiple-years timescale.

  42. iPhone 9 could finally debut on April 15, new rumor claims

I've been waiting for 3+ yrs and saving up for 2+ yrs for this device. I didn't like the specs of the SE (but I admired the budget friendliness), so a new device designed like 8 but upgraded specs with SE budget... I'm down for this.

  49. Google Duo now supports up to 12 people in a group video call

Technically, Duo can work on any device with the duo.google.com website. However, again, I don't know anyone that uses Duo. It's built into Android, so people have it if they have a later Android version. But they probably use Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger by default. Google was wrong to come out with a different branded product. They should have just called it the "new" Hangouts and removed the current Hangouts (which they are doing anyway). I use it with 5 other people I know I know that's tiny but I imagine there are thousands of little pools of people who do use it.

  50. [C++] How to return an enumeration?

Enum itself is not a type, it defines a type much like struct / class do. First, you have to define an enumerator. // Define Enumerator enum GameState{ Zero, One, Two, Three, Four }; // Define value GameState eGameStateCurrent = GameState. One; // Get value GameState getGameState(){ return eGameStateCurrent; } // Set value void setGameState(GameState value){ eGameStateCurrent = value; } Hope this helps.
