How to set Samsung Galaxy S20's display refresh rate to 96Hz

Having a display at 96 Hz when the phone is currently doing nothing is simply a waste of battery. Apple's ProMotion is the correct way to do things.5 points -

While you do have a point, by going to a smaller process, AMD not only has the micro-arch gains but also is winning on pure core counts. As more and more apps/games start to favor more cores then the advantage will shift to AMD more. And let's not forget that these things are running hotter to try and match on performance with higher clock speed.2 points -

The borg ship was pretty out of shape to start, large part of it was of no use and they never got anywhere with repairs in a previous episode. Plus crashing it on the planet probably knocked out even more parts of it. I doubt it could've taken on 200+ warbirds before they rained fire down on it and wiped it out. Sure the Borg are powerful but how long have the Romulans and everyone else had access to that cube and it's tech? I think by this time we've become pretty good at taking the Borg on, not like back at the start in TNG. That plot point could very well be the basis for season 2. They dangled the idea that XBs have no rights or place and aren't treated as people. It's one more thing for them to fight for in season 2. We'll have to wait and see what they do next.1 point -

I know it feels like ages, but it won't even have been 5 years yet for desktop CPUs. Nevertheless, during the same time span from 2000 to 2005, on mainstream segment, we went from 1Ghz single-core 180nm 32-bit to 2.4Ghz dual-core 90nm 64-bit CPUs. Granted, we did also get the core doubling this time, but at the cost of significantly higher power consumption. Considering that they won't deliver 10nm or better for desktop until at least next year, it is still very humiliating for them. It's probably the worst humiliation they've ever had for their manufacturing capabilities. With things the way they are now, building a new PC or buying lots of them are very low on the list of priorities. Mobile devices like laptops and ultrabooks make the bulk of the consumer PC space today anyways. That's why you see 10nm tiger lake chips showing up there first while the smaller desktop market is on hold. AMD is making key gains in servers where big money is made which is good for competition but still can't get a good foot into laptops/ultrabooks as of right now. And the GPU side is still not firing on all cylinders for them. Actually, both AMD and Intel are going to start seeing more pressure in the datacenter space with the advance of ARM server chips with insane core counts of their own, up to 96 cores last I read. They also have the ability to run 3 threads per core instead of 2. Amazon has made a big move to use them in their AWS centers more and more. More Intel stupidity was killing off Itanium as those could easily compete with ARM CPUs. Moreover, if they were less greedy, IA64 architecture would of made it mainstream and they would of had blown AMD away for a good while. But their CEO at the time felt that Intel shouldnt innovate, just produce cash Itanium was a completely different architecture. It has as much chance of becoming mainstream as RISC6000, PowerPC, SPARC or AIX (which was basically always a 0% chance).1 point -

Please don't fixate on having to have a "monthly update cycle." Updates should occur when necessary or needed--regardless of the frequently. Also, don't fall into the mess MS has created with their WIndows-10 OS and their obsession of having to push out updates/patches just to maintain a published schedule.1 point -

It's not a problem that they're still on 14nm. It's starting to become one though, specially this year. They've hit the speed wall with their 14nm+ node and they're losing out on overall core counts to AMD who can fit more of them into their package. If Intel was already on 10nm like they had planned we'd be looking at core parity with what AMD has but also I expect higher clocks. We could've been talking about boost clocks in the 6Ghz by now I bet.1 point -

The thought process that we can stop the spread of the virus is simply wrong. All we can do is delay it long enough to get medical facilities and supplies in place. This virus will spread - any chance for a vaccine is at least a year away, and even then, our capacity to make effective flu vaccines has not been very good.1 point -

Laptop acting strange after reaching 100% charge on battery
goretsky reacted to +Warwagon for a topic
maybe this .. found it on another site. While the battery says 100% maybe something is lost in translation and the laptop is getting the signal that it's dead. Update: modified the power plan to do nothing when critical battery reached. This time the laptop did not shutdown. Instead I got the blue Windows message across the screen that the battery is critically low (indicated 0%). But, after a couple of seconds the warning disapeared and the battery level restored to 98%. So, it seems the laptop does not like the new battery and sometimes looses the communication (as the message says). So, Going to replace the battery since I just got it. In the meantime, the fix is to stay with AC and set the power plan to do nothing in critical level.1 point -

Firm-wide Notifications
+Dick Montage reacted to Sulphy for a question
We use Kaseya in our environment, you can broadcast a company or group wide notification... not 100% sure if it has a notification in the panel.. but the user gets a popup on their screen. That is at least one function of Kaseya, also use it for endpoint patching etc. It is nifty, in the fact it is domain joined agnostic, so even BYOD people can get the notifications, as long as the Kaseya agent is installed on their machine. Not sure it helps, but thought i would contribute1 point -

Whenever Apple releases something like this labeled as "budget" or "classic" or anything with the older design from a few generations ago. I always have the same thought, that they've got a chunk of left over bits and have found a easy way to offload them. The market has long since changed and matured, Apple is effected to, or they'd still be talking about how many iPhones they've been selling. Expect to start seeing more phones with minor hardware bumps yet with the same or higher prices as time goes on. Now we're into this folding screen rush but those prices are insane still. I don't know if we'll ever see a folding screen phone in the ~$500 range actually.1 point -
