  1. It has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of speech. Google is not the government.

  2. YouTube will remove videos that claim 5G and COVID-19 are related

I guess if people are stupid enough to actually believe the earth is flat, they are going to find a link between 5G networks and COVID-19.

  3. YouTube will remove videos that claim 5G and COVID-19 are related

It has nothing to do with freedom of speech! YouTube/Google are absolutely correct to take down false information, especially when it's resulting in criminal damage and stopping emergency services from communicating.

  4. This does not limit freedom of speech. Corporations don't owe anyone freedom of speech, only governments. Freedom of speech is afforded by the government, not a corporate entity. Why does no one understand this?

  5. UK: Social networks need to fight 5G conspiracies

Alternate headline: Government calls on social networks to help them police speech, thought. People have a right to be stupid and say stupid things. If stupid people vandalise masts, then prosecute them for destruction of property.

  6. UK: Social networks need to fight 5G conspiracies

Social media has screwed up things more than it's helped bring people together. If we're talking viruses then social media is one.

  7. This must be a joke! While other big companies and people like Bill Gates are investing billions in finding a cure for Covid 19 Apple comes up with the cheapest face shields it could possibly produce and gives away 20M (at 2 cents per piece) of them? This must be the cheapest commercial they ever did.
    7 points
  8. Good on them. But this is obviously just for publicity... School classes are literally producing face shields for hospitals as they are very easy to make with basic materials..

The first amendment only applies to the government; it means that they cannot silence or punish you for expressing your opinions and ideas. Private companies do not have to abide by this and can make their own rules about what you can say on their platforms.

  11. Google tests removing Library and Installed tabs from the Play Store

Removing one tab that didn't cause clutter isn't "cleaner", it just removes functionality. A better way to curate the library would have been nice. Anything you've ever installed appears in that list. For me, that goes right back to when I had a G1 and is pretty extensive as I've had at least five devices since. It also includes anything I tried (variants of GPS apps, for example), plus plenty of dead apps.

  12. So now how will I know which apps I have purchased? I always scroll through the library

Official binaries = Mozilla released a new version. But OMG the patchnote page isn't updated yet, OMG UNOFFICIAL THEN! (like LOL if you think those are even patchnotes, the most basic reddit tier list of changes I've ever seen for a release). Binaries don't change between now and tomorrow. / No one is forcing you to update. / Let people who want to know about it. | Take your pick.

It's called community policies, even here on neowin got them. If you don't follow them then you can get banned from the site or in the case of youtube your video is just getting removed.

  19. UK: Social networks need to fight 5G conspiracies

I don't believe 5G has anything to do with coronavirus but 5G health concerns aren't conspiracies. 5G could potentially be harmful. There is a photo of a tree before and after being near a 5G tower and the tree clearly is deteriorating exactly where the 5G tower is. I know humans aren't trees, but even animals relocate when they are near 5G. 4G has relatively low frequencies compare to 5G. Whether you believe the current science or have your own theories, the fact is 5G is brand new and a long term study on health has NOT been done.

  20. Making the move to Windows 10 from 7. Twin install question.

I've found this to be the exact opposite personally; even on older low end machines Windows 10 has run better than 7 for me due to better memory management and such.

  22. Buying an SSD enclosure with eSATA connectivity?

...well because SATA is faster than USB 3.0. SATA is designed specifically for drives...that is its entire reason for existing. USB 3.0 (and USB in general) are the "jack of all trades" but you won't get the speeds ... even with 3.0. Another question is does Linux (or Windows) and the enclosure support TRIM over USB ...TRIM afaik is a SATA command though some USB enclosures support it (for example these StarLink products). Little quirks like that make SATA ideal for Operating System drives vs. running them on USB. Which is why I recommend just getting an enclosure which supports both eSATA and USB 3.0. Use the eSATA for the Linux install...and if down the line you decide it isn't for you just use the USB 3.0 so you can transfer data between computers. I think the product I linked to previously would satisfy your current requirements and give you a little "wiggle room" in the future. Side note: USB nomenclature sucks ... I just noticed Mindovermaster's post above ... which isn't entirely accurate (because USB nomenclature sucks) It is actually... USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps) USB 3.2 Gen 2 ----> Formally called USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) USB 3.2 Gen 1 ----> Formally called USB 3.1 Gen 1 ----> Formally called USB 3.0 (5 Gbps) Your board has USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) USB nomenclature sucks.

  26. UK: Social networks need to fight 5G conspiracies

The EM spectrum has always existed. That's correct. However, those frequencies were empty, not used, and we never had 5G antennas, transmitters, receivers and signal amplifiers in the past. Actually, many of the frequencies being used by 5G have been in use in 4G/LTE and even Wifi in your home. The vast majority of 5G networks being tested right now around the world are using the 3.5Ghz freq. That's smack in the middle of what your Wifi uses which is either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.

  27. UK: Social networks need to fight 5G conspiracies

There has been talk on the interwebs a few years ago about how 4G transmission affected the bee population. The wider the coverage of 4G, the more the finger pointed to 4G on the disappearance of bees. I read a study by a guy named David Favre (and others) who worked with a cell biology lab that describes this in detail. I have no idea of how 5G even relates to a virus spread but if that connection does exist, I do however, have a suspicion if the telecoms are aware of it they are not real keen on telling you about it. Other that this conspiracy theory, are there any studies that exist on this matter?

I'm interested in seeing what study shows that 5G does harm exactly? The only thing that could effect you is if your right up next to the transmitter for a long period of time and even then there is no signs that it causes cancer let alone spreads covid-19. There isn’t one. There’s also no theoretical mechanism for it to cause harm. It’s funny/sad, most of the “evidence” is just people actually looking at the sky and noticing what clouds look like and having cameras on phones that can take ok pictures of clouds for the first time in their lives. (Also, cell towers have extremely limited transmission power, so even being right on them won’t cause harm, unlike high powered satellite transmitters, which cause thermal burns and/or mostly harmless diametric heating)

Please don't fixate on having to have a "monthly update cycle." Updates should occur when necessary or needed--regardless of the frequently. Also, don't fall into the mess MS has created with their WIndows-10 OS and their obsession of having to push out updates/patches just to maintain a published schedule.

Once again, it's sad they have to remove something that informed users love because the majority of the uninformed average users don't use it. 44. UK: Social networks need to fight 5G conspiracies

post hoc ergo propter hoc is an absolutely evil fallacy that has caused demonstrable harm throughout history. Absolutely! It was the Sony Walkman, then it was the Gameboy, then it was the Discman, then it was cell phones, then it was laptops... Man, these aircraft must be really really sentitive! It's funny how a old fear of wifi taking down the plane is now something customers want on their longer flights and has become a selling point for airlines. My take on it is this: Flying on an aeroplane is weird. It's not normal and it is something I can understand that people fear; in some ways you are safer NOT launching into the air in a metal tube than you are by doing so. Statistically, it IS safe. The deaths are few and far between. But that will not calm anyone. The type of mind to be calmed by statistics is not the type of mind to worry about air travel in any major way. So how do we calm these people? Give them a focus for their fear. Say that "This thing is going to be the reason the plane crashes." Then we take away that thing, remove the item they are unnecessarily focused on. Aaaaah, don't you feel safer now that we removed the pointless talisman of your fear?

  45. Which Linux distribution do you prefer?

I agree and paired with arch's AUR repository you get basically all possible apps with frequent updates edit: there is only one thing I would change and it's nothing to do with Manjaro itself. I love that it uses XFCE but I wish XFCE would become compatible with Wayland already.

  46. UK: Social networks need to fight 5G conspiracies

Well, one doesn’t exist. Careful there. I'm not saying it does exist, but you're making a statement that you are 100% unable to back up. You can argue that we haven't actually seen any harm, but you can't say it doesn't exist. It’s 100% backed up by science, non-ionizing radiation lacks the energy to create the problems people claim it does. As I mentioned above, people that claim harm never put forth a theoretical mechanism for how it can cause harm. This (EMF) is an extremely well studied area of science, with over 120 years. What would it take for you to change your mind?
