  12. Exactly! Haven't ever used one on my systems. Have scanned them just to check it out and see if anything was ever detected, but nothing has ever been found. Just don't install stupid stuff from untrusted sources.

  13. The LineageOS Phone app is darn similar (and will import from it); however, it's not COMPLETELY identical; even when running LineageOS 17.1 - which I did when not running Android 11 DP2 - the Google Phone app was more stable than that of LineageOS.

  14. It's actually not that uncommon to have a soft write-protect setting directly in the BIOS. Trouble is that there's more than just the BIOS itself now - UEFI is also contains a settings database that is by-requirement adjustable from a booted OS. It's basically where the old MBR has gone, and can also contain things like the override for RunAsPPL/Enhanced LSA protection. I'd suspect there's a whole lot of rarely treaded attack surface in there. UEFI is way too complicated for the purpose it serves. Having less "E" and more "B" would be my preference.

  18. What OS does your computer run?

I actually had more than that but cleared out some stuff when I moved a few months back. I had to much stuff that I did not need. I do not do as much side work anymore. I did keep an old Dell laptop tho. Forget model off the top of my head but it was when Win95 came out. Still works great. Battery shot tho. Dell 3800 Bedroom Dell 3800 Living room Dell 3800 Parts Surface Pro 4 Dell 7470 TV Old Dell Spare e7470 Acer Netbook Got a few spare work systems I use to test software installs/updates and other thing on. A Surface Pro 7 that I take to meetings. Display station laptop. My Dell laptop I use primarily for everything else. These are all at work though except for my main laptop. Anyway, mainly WinOS but I support Apple and a little linux at work.

  22. In a parallel universe, one would put a simple fkin write-disable switch on the motherboard (for desktop PC, and somewhere under the cover for laptops), and whoaa, no more accidental bios overwrite! A billion dollar idea!

  26. It's a neat idea and looks to have a much lower barrier to entry than Device Guard, but is also not nearly as comprehensive. Mostly it's a shame about the very short list of supported models for the IoC feature. https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/dtd_admin_guide_en-us.pdf

  29. Android or iPhone?

Android ; it's the overall better option especially due to $. anything Apple is overpriced, which generally makes them unattractive. but price aside, iPhones are better in some ways since things are more standardized and will likely receive security updates etc for a while where as a random generic/no name Android phone might not. basically the main thing is avoid generic Android phones since they are less likely to get security updates. but if you stick to brand names like Samsung, you should be good for a while. besides... like @cork1958 mention, you don't need the flagship phones since they are far more expensive and are not that much better than phones a little bit older but much less $. personally I would just get a decent/reasonably priced phone (say $50-100) and the saved $ could be put towards a proper desktop/laptop computer as those are more secure in general doing important stuff online since they tend to get security updates much faster. I just can't see paying a ton of $ for a smart phone which is a overpriced/watered down computer.

Apple Music is available for Android. It's funny how you just came with 1 app which is available on android They just bought darksky or something sky don't exactly remember the name, and killed the android app in single week! They have the 'Move to iOS' app too XD

They are just adding new ones to focused/other that were there for years. Personally, I prefer having just two: one for important stuff and another for everything else, so I'll just turn new ones off when they arrive. I always unsubscribe from all promotions, newsletters, and especially social media notifications. If they continue coming, they go to spam.

  33. The Sandboxie Windows sandbox isolation tool is now open-source!

Cybersecurity firm Sophos announced today that it has open-sourced the Sandboxie Windows sandbox-based isolation utility 15 years after it was released. "We are thrilled to give the code to the community," Sophos Director of Product Marketing Seth Geftic said. "The Sandboxie tool has been built on many years of highly-skilled developer work and is an example of how to integrate with Windows at a very low level," "The Sandboxie user base represents some of the most passionate, forward-thinking, and knowledgeable members of the security community, and we hope this announcement will spawn a fresh wave of ideas and use cases." Sandboxie and its source code can now be downloaded from the official website available at: https://www.sandboxie.com/ https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/software/the-sandboxie-windows-sandbox-isolation-tool-is-now-open-source/

  34. Apple and Google partner to track COVID-19 cases with your phone

So it's going to require people to tell their phone that they're infected? And then when they're inconsiderate enough to be in public, their phone will send out a Bluetooth signal to alert others? This idea sounds pretty farfetched...

Usually Apple doesn't make its apps for Android. I don't like how Apple limits the app to just its phone whereas Google makes its app for both iOS and Android.

There's no real rush here. Most of the work on 2004 is under the hood and users who are on 1909 won't notice much of a difference. The virus has delayed/slowed work down on lots of things, it might have been on RP by now but oh well.
