For those who also have a PC for gaming, there is no reason to buy an X1 because almost all microsoft exclusive games are available on PC, if they wanted to play one. For console only players, microsoft's exclusives have been quite disappointing so far, compared to sony's, so again no reason to choose an X1 over PS4 for most people. Also, the base X1 and X1S are weaker than the base PS4, which means multiplatform games usually either have a lower resolution or a lower frame rate on X1. X1X is more powerful than PS4 Pro, but apparently to many people it's not worth it over sony's exclusives.4 points -

I really don't get why Microsoft creates extra clutter to their clutter. They already have a buggy "personalization" page for installing and modifying themes in Windows settings. They already have "live" themes that update automatically via feed. Instead of improving those, they add another plugin, with incompatible functionality to the regular settings. Why?3 points -

Windows 10 version 2004 is here - here's what you need to know about it
Gornot and one other reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
There is a lot attached to the WDDM 2.7 and DX12 features in general in this release. This is the first build to include several kernel level updates in a few years, and this also allows for these new features to work or work better. Look for things like DXR 2, AI/WinML features, lower refresh latency, along with new and existing features from the XBox One/Series X super-set of DirectX12. This adds in the newer versions of adaptive resolutions, scaling, sampling locations, and FPS stabilization. This is good for professional PC Gamers, as one thing the XBox and DX12 in general has done better is having fewer FPS dumps via the framework and the NT kernel managing the CPU and GPU cores for thermal loads better than Vulkan and the PS4 can. One specific - DXR - Ray Tracing previously was designed around a few basic rendering concepts with AI targeting zero performance loss at 60fps - which it does well on the current RT enabled games. The problem was timing as it was debuting at a time when many gamers were moving on to 120-240fps gaming, and thus 60fps DXR Ray Tracing isn't enough. DXR 2.0 targets higher fps Ray Tracing and new render variations with even bi-directional paths for better caustics and FPS targeted optimizations to use the higher refresh rates to get better RT results. I know a lot of people are not DXR/RT fans (especially with the BS from NVidia trying to con people into believing it is their technology). However, for game visual quality to move forward, we need EASIER and more accurate lighting, and we are at the point that some variation of Ray Tracing (Path/Branch/etc) is the only way forward. A good RT'd scene at 1080p can look 100x better than a 4K or 8K image - pixels do not equal higher quality when the current lighting and textures look fake/false. I wish some site would do a deep dive on WDDM 2.7 and DXR 2.0 and the other new GPU/Kernel features in 20H1. I was noticing the other day, that really cool features like multi-GPU rendering features are often not noticed or referenced by the people in the industry that follow games and graphic technologies. One developer from a major AAA game didn't even realize the game on DX12 seamlessly would use several GPUS, with Windows 10/DX12 SMP GPU rendering features that are essentially automatic.2 points -
Bill Gates calls Trump's de-funding of WHO dangerous
Jim K reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
Yes everyone made mistakes, nobody was prepared but WHO is a bigger picture org and they failed to ring the alarms about the pandemic in China to take protective measures. There is no transparency about their COVID-19 activities either which makes people think they arent doing something. They are certainly not talking about distributing ventialtors and decontamination of developing and 3rd world countries, there is no talk of vaccines. This. Forget about Trump, if your information from the WHO is bad, how do you prepare? The United States isn't the rest of the world, and surely the world isn't looking to Trump's expertise on the issue. This is literally the WHO's job though and if they're going to play politics or move at such a slow pace, they need to be ousted for people who are willing to communicate and act, rather than sit on stage talking about which country they'd like to be treated in the most like it's some internet debate lol. Let's put it another way, do you honestly expect Trump would shut down the US economy if the WHO advised that? No chance, Trump wasn't going to listen to anyone and the only reason the shut down happened was because of intense pressure on him to do so and even now he seems desperate to open up the economy when it's way too early to do that. At the end of the day, all countries had their own experts and knew what was going on, many made jokes about this virus, thinking it wouldn't happen over here, they didn't prepare and waiting until it was too late, it's highly unlikely anything the WHO would have said would have changed anything on that. Trump is just trying to deflect blame away from him self because he's getting a lot of heat and he knows he's the one that would get it in the neck if things go wrong, so he needs a scapegoat, anything that it can stick too and as we know, Trump has form in deflecting blame on others. What's really frightening for Americans is that if the US got infected first before Europe, would the US have closed down, I have a feeling the US wouldn't because they wouldn't want to give an edge to Europeans with their economy being open, Europeans having a more social system tends to put people first and with Europe getting the virus early, it made it easier for the US to shut down as well, but I have my doubt about the US on if they would have done the same thing if it was the other way round. I said forget about Trump, but you made a 180 and decided to talk about him more, then going off on the deep end with hypotheticals. Your only comment about the WHO is that maybe people wouldn't listen to them. Here's a news flash: if people can ring the bell on global climate change on a daily basis, the WHO can at least get off their ass when they see a serious issue. Hell, you can go take a look at the COVID-19 thread on the forum back when I posted about it in January and literally watch how many people said it wasn't a big deal... up until a point when it started to become serious. If the WHO actually stood their ground on calling this what it was, maybe there would be less people actually blowing it off. Hell, I recall people saying, "Yeah, well it's not a pandemic yet so relax..." That's just stupidity at its finest and if that's the best we can hope for with millions sunk into this organization, then I don't think we (as a collective of countries) aren't getting our moneys worth, US or no US. Saying to forget about Trump is just another way of trying to deflect blame away from Trump and I didn't fall for it. Now I'm not saying the WHO have not done wrong and could have been better, but let's face it, Trump has been a shambles with this virus. At the end of the day, I highly doubt it would have mattered what the WHO said as many in the west wasn't going to listen because of the drastic actions needed, the idea of shutting down the economy at those early stages would have seen crazy so there was little to no chance Trump would have done it and the sad thing is, the only reason he did it in the end was because of pressure from all side, state sides and the public doing it's own thing which makes Trump look really bad hence why he's desperate to deflect blame away from himself as he can feel the heat on him. So as much as some would like to blame China or the WHO, all countries have experts, would the likes of Trump listen? no chance and that is where the real problem is and however we cut it, that blame goes to the top and that is with Trump, that is also with a lot of other western governments as well.1 point -

Unless you are going to get the cloud key G2 plus (that can be a NVR) for your upcoming camera's there is also little need of that.. You can run the controller software pretty much on anything... I have mine running on a ubuntu server VM on my nas.. I would never suggest unmanaged switch.. Even if you were getting some little 8 port model... It should be smart/managed - they shouldn't even sell dumb switches any more if you ask me.. For a handful of devices the injectors work fine.. If you find yourself with a growing number of poe devices... Sure put them on a poe switch.. But wouldn't be looking at some big core switch model with poe, when you could get better switch without poe for the same price point or cheaper even.. example: The 24 port poe I show for $379 over on unifi store Show the 28 port, Cisco SG350 for $219 currently at amazon. This is layer 3 switch vs the unifi layer 2.. Way more more features and function, and more ports even.. For way less money..1 point -

John K reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Because you have fallen for the performance myth. Consoles are NOT equivalent to a PC - ESPECIALLY the Xbox One X. The Xbox One X's RX480-ish GPU has additional framework code in the silicon. So some operations that require a 1000 calls on a PC, require 1 call on the Xbox One X. The Xbox One X is performant equivalent to a Geforce 1080 with a 7/8th generation i7/i9 CPU PC. Some games even run closer to the speed of a PC with a Geforce 1080ti. (This is telling of how much of a difference the silicon code makes. Especially if you look beyond the GPU and remember how slow the Jaguar based CPU in the Xbox One X is in single thread performance compared to an i7.) For PC Gamers that are anti-console, here is a small shocking fact they can go look up: There are2-3 games for the Xbox One X that use higher quality textures than are available on the PC release. Even today in 2020 - to build a PC that can perform as well as an Xbox One X - the cost is easily around/over $1000, which is a lot more than $399. The same performance difference is expected of the Xbox Series X coming out this year, as Microsoft has once again built the CPU/GPU with custom framework code in the silicon, which runs significantly faster. Side industry note: One reason Sony decided not to try to be the 'fastest' console of this generation in hardware, is they COULD NOT get close to the performance of the Xbox Series X even if they offered significantly faster and more expensive hardware. So, they optimized around a price point. (The same thing happened with the PS4 Pro vs the Xbox One X.)1 point -

I can't personally talk because I haven't played the original FF VII, but so far I'm really enjoying that game (except from some stupid ally AI)... Instead of a 'feature update' they should do a 'design update' with a few quality of life for consumers / gamers. Examples: - fix all the icons to be consistent - fix the tiles (transparent tiles + unified accent colors) - fix and update Windows 8 media flyout. Integrate with global media session control from modern browsers. - fix and finish integration of settings / control panel - fix the icons in the action center (no accent color is needed there) - redesigned apps (the new calendar preview is glorious) - option to make all fonts in the OS the same size (settings / explorer / action center / apps / legacy stuff...) - give explorer.exe a visual makeover without losing functionality - fix square icons of store apps in light mode - fix broken animations. When you press 'task view' it flickers once. Some apps like Spotify don't have minimize/maximize animations which started a few builds ago - make jumplists for all inbox apps - allow to set where notifications appear - multiselect of several tiles - make all the game bar stuff consistent. It has a separate notification system, different fonts & animations - backup and restore large games from the windows store like every game client does - allow automatic dark/light mode based on hours or sunrise - allow a dark/light mode specific wallpaper to be set - remove crapware on clean installs1 point -

It's a pretty well documented fact that the WHO downplayed covid-19 early on and was more or less covering for China in the process instead of calling for quicker and more strict action as soon as the start of January. If all these other countries have a issue, they're more than free to boost their own funding to the WHO if they want. There's real no reason why one country should pay for most of this stuff when peoples health should be more global anyways. When the #2 spot is a foundation while all these other countries are lower on the list, it just shows how the whole thing is pretty silly. I'd much rather a chunk of that money that went to the WHO went to the CDC at this point.1 point -

That's exactly what it is. If you buy it for Xbox One, you'll automatically get the Series X variant when you decide to swap out the hardware. If I remember correctly, they did a similar thing- if on a smaller scale - with Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. You'd just download and install the game, and if you wanted 4K textures and such, that would be a separate download. This way, for those who either don't want or can't take advantage of the higher-res textures, it doesn't translate into a bigger download. that's not what they they wrote above, they wrote you buy the game for xbox one and you get the next xbox (hardware) for free1 point
