Samsung Galaxy S20 series sales affected by coronavirus pandemic
stadii and 7 others reacted to SoLiD_MasteR for a topic
It's not only the corona, it's their terrible Exynos 990 CPU, with overheating, battery drain, inferior camera processing and slower performance problems. It's the first year I'm switching to other phone manufacture (Oneplus 8) due to the availability of top end Snapdragon 865 version in my region.8 points -

Samsung Galaxy S20 series sales affected by coronavirus pandemic
stadii and 4 others reacted to +E.Worm Jimmy for a topic
Yeah yeah. Blame it on corona. We all know that the sales are suffering because of bad publicity of the issues the models where having as well as the obviously unnecessary jump from s10 to s20 with not enought changes to justify it. I was planning to get s20 but finally decided to switch brands after being with Samsung since S4 and my friend, who ended up getting it, is also unimpressed and will switch away next year for sure, unless S21 brings something better. Hard to differentiate in this. mostly fully mature, market... But bugs and issues from such a high price phone are unacceptable!5 points -

I still don't see what niche this is satisfying. When it's fully open, it's awkward to hold.. and when it's closed and in phone mode, it's tall and narrow, hard to type on. It's still a from factor that nobody asked for. Folding screens will certainly be useful for future form factors, but how it stands now, in use with the Fold... no.4 points -

AMD is the only realistic proposition atm. For video editing there are 2 realistic choices - Ryzen 9 3950x (w/ 570 mobo) or Threadripper 39xxx Couple that with as much ram as you can get (32gb min) and a fast scratch drive (nvme or PCIE 4.0) As for GPU with budget limits id suggest either a 5700XT (if you want to go PCIE 4.0). Radeon VII (Lots of high spped ram) or a Nvidia 2070 Super (RTX and fast) That will all just about be possible in your 2k limit2 points -

Ve7878 and one other reacted to ZakO for a topic
Is this for gaming? If it is, unless you're planning on upgrading the rest of the system at some point the old dual core CPU will severely bottleneck any modern GPU, putting a £200+ GPU in that system would be a waste of money. You could grab a 2nd hand GTX 960 for £50 and it would still hit a CPU bottleneck in most games, even at 1440p. If you wanted something with a bit more vram headroom you can pick up a 2nd hand GTX 1060 6GB for around £80 but even that would be huge overkill.2 points -

Or... use what you are told to use. My phone, so they can not force me to install it. As i said to them, if they want me to use it then I will in their time on their computers/tablets. They don't force people to use Yammer, when it first started they did a fair bit of pushing to get people to sign up for it. We used to manage without it before, if there is anything important then tell us. Also not everyone has a smart phone. Or... they can write a policy to force you to install it on your own phone or gtfo. No they can't and what about people without smart phones? Even if they could force us to install it, they can not force us to read it. Yes they can, Mr. Individual.1 point -

This 2-in-1 Wireless Charger + UV Sanitizer is 15% off for just $37.99
Steven P. reacted to zhangm for a topic
Not strictly true - by definition if it emits UV-C, then it can be germicidal. I haven't really kept up to date on progress but there are a couple companies that sell UV-C LED-based disinfection products: https://www.aquisense.com/technology https://www.klaran.com/products/uvc-leds That said, getting the wavelength right is only a part of making an effective product. Germicidal activity depends on the wavelength, flux through the area exposed, and duration of exposure (these are all related and basically translates into the number of damaging photons that are emitted to be absorbed by a contaminant). Were this the real deal, I still wouldn't be totally confident that it would work quickly (or be the best method) but then again wireless charging isn't that fast either.1 point -

Oh don't get me wrong, I love the series! I just wasn't grabbed by the beginning missions and the daunting size of the thing. Starting simple missions, "go here and kill him. I warn you though, it might say that I'm online or currently playing a game when I'm not. For example during this isolation thing I'm working from home, so I might take five minutes to relieve some stress by taking out demons and then pause and go back to work rather than shutting the PS4 down.1 point -

Most Xbox exclusives can also be played on the PC. People get the PS4 because you can play a lot of exclusives not found anywhere else. I have this nagging feeling that Sony will be releasing more of it's exclusives on the PC over time, they know that they're missing out on a big chunk of gamers who will not buy a console just for those 2 or 3 exclusives alone. HZD is going to be a interesting test for them, if it's sales are solid on the PC, expect to see more, money talks. If that comes to pass, then what's the argument for owning a console if you have a gaming PC at all? Sure, Sony might sell some of their exclusives on PC. But are you willing to wait 2–4 years to play a fantastic game? I finished HZD and all DLC’s well over two years ago... Thaa as t game alone was worth the purchase of a PS4 Pro. I also finished God of War, Spider-Man and many other games not long after launch. The PC + PS4 + Switch combo has me covered. I had an Xbox One X too, but there was no point in keeping it. Forza Horizon 3 and 4, as well as Gears 4 and 5, and so on, played better on my PC with an RTX 2070 Super, even at 4K HDR via HDMI on my 4K TV.1 point -

5T still gets monthly android patches aupdates- I think that they are pretty good on that compared to other manufacturers. I think the main issue is that you spend $900 on Oneplus and the next day it’s value is $500 while the iPhone will be $850... Resell value after one year for iPhone is very high. Getting monthly security updates every 3 months on OnePlus is not same as iPhone getting a whole new iOS update every year for 4-5 years. On Android side, once you buy their fancy overpriced device, you are as good as dead to them. PS: I have both iPhone X and OnePlus 7.1 point -

quikmantx reacted to George P for a topic
For those who also have a PC for gaming, there is no reason to buy an X1 because almost all microsoft exclusive games are available on PC, if they wanted to play one. For console only players, microsoft's exclusives have been quite disappointing so far, compared to sony's, so again no reason to choose an X1 over PS4 for most people. Also, the base X1 and X1S are weaker than the base PS4, which means multiplatform games usually either have a lower resolution or a lower frame rate on X1. X1X is more powerful than PS4 Pro, but apparently to many people it's not worth it over sony's exclusives. I keep hearing about the PC argument, but it honestly doesn't effect everyone. I have a gaming PC but I also own a Xbox One X. I don't always want to play on my 30" monitor PC at 1080p ( yeah I'm still rocking 1080p with a GTX 1070), and I feel like playing on my 55" 4k screen. The majority of Xbox owners don't have gaming PCs, but for those like me, many also buy both because it depends on ones mood. Besides, at the end of the day, a xbox game sold on the console or the pc is still money in MS' pocket so they don't much care as long as you buy them. Phil was right, as much as haters want to try and beat him up for it, but console sales don't make or break you when you have multiple ways to get people into your ecosystem. Console, PC, Game Pass on both, xCloud for mobile gaming in the future.1 point -

I imagine this particular feature would get Apple’s panties in a twist if integrated. Meh, they all copy each other. I miss having spotlight so bring it on. I promise this is not a trolling response, as I am truly curious as to what you and others are noticing that I may be missing... What is Windows Search missing that you like about Spotlight (or even things you dislike, but notice are missing)? i.e. Features, how things work, how the UI/UX works, etc. I have been sitting back trying to get my head around this, and several places on the web I have noticed similar discussions with users like yourself wanting the PowerToys implementation because they see it as offering Spotlight features they miss on Windows.1 point -

Highly doubtful. Besides having to deal with this crisis, the state of the country has been at it's strongest state ever. But hey, if you allow the whiney media do to your thinking, that's your choice... If Trump found a cure for cancer, you and your media thinkers would still find a way to spin it negatively... Pretty much the whole of the world (outside the US) are baffled by Trump. We are baffled at how this man managed to get into power. When we look at the history of this man (as President of the US) we are wondering how the hell he has managed to keep his presidency. We are wondering (even more) how this man has supporters. Are people blind? Only a mad man would cut funding to the WHO right in the middle of a pandemic. This guy still has supporters after doing this? You lot are nuts. Mind you, you still support him after doing all the other stuff. I don't think I need to mention that. If I do then there is something really wrong.1 point -

UK: Social networks need to fight 5G conspiracies
spikey_richie reacted to Rosyna for a topic
First off, people shouldn't just lump 5G together as one thing when it's not. 5G can use the same frequencies that current 4G uses and also higher ones like 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz which wifi has been using for years. The unfounded fears come from higher freq mmWave transmitters but don't take into account that they're short range, which is why they need more of them, and even though use a higher freq don't have the ability to make it through walls and windows and are even effected by things like humidity and the atmosphere in general. So which type are you worried about exactly? Look up a paper, "High Exposure to Radio Frequency Radiation Associated With Cancer in Male Rats" and that is 2G and 3G. "Everyone I know, including me, is recommending more research on 5G because there's not a lot of toxicology studies with this technology," - I'm not scaremongering or overstating anything about 5G. 5G could be completely harmless. I hope it is. But there hasn't been enough studies. This isn't like an anti-vaccer, or like a flat-earther, who is arguing against well established evidence to the contrary. I'm a rational person and I agree with the current studies on 5G. I just think more studies need to take place. This is exactly like an anti-vaxxerargument. You ask for “more studies” ignoring the content of the multitudes or previous studies, hoping to find something that matches your confirmation bias. Hell, you quoted a pre-release “study” that claimed rats exposed to cell phone radiation lived longer than those not exposed. https://arstechnica.com/scienc...-is-riddled-with-red-flags/ Goes over the numerous flaws in said “study” (study in scare quotes due to lack of controls, inexplicable, non-reproducible results)1 point -
