Publishers really need to understand that we really don't want to open up 20 different launchers, or deal with 20 different launchers/store fronts/whatever that you might A. Get bored with and discontinue or B. Get forced out of the market. You had a REALLY good thing with Steam managing to pull the PC platform back from being one where games were mostly pirated to one where that is much less commonplace. For everyone's sake stop it and realise you can't just keep on making more and more money. And don't you dare blame piracy, COVID19, or anything else like that when you cause the market to implode through your own greed.3 points -

This makes no sense what so ever. I am paying to rent computing power from Nvidia to play my OWN GAMES that I have PURCHASED in Steam. I will never, and won't ever, subscribe to something like xCloud, Stadia, or anything similar to that. All I want is to sometimes rent computing power to PLAY MY OWN PURCHASED LIBRARY, so that I can continue using MY OWN EXISTING SAVE GAMES. When will these cloud providers get that through their very extremely dense skulls? The ONLY storefronts I will use on PC is Steam and Battle.net. Everything else is not an option, as I'm getting tired to logging onto different services for each and every game!2 points -

Building a new PC.. Help!
Mindovermaster and one other reacted to sc302 for a topic
I recently priced out a computer with pc parts picker against a similar spec'd ibuypower. You save between 1-200 doing it yourself. Under 1000 that is a big difference, over 1000 that difference (percentage wise) diminishes. Best I can tell you is to find something you like on ibuypower or nzxt or whatever other sites and try to build it yourself with pcpartpicker.com. You might find out that the cost savings isn't worth the headache of building it yourself in your price point. pcpartpicker tries to pick the cheapest vendor, but sometimes you can find cheaper on your own. FWIW, I had a powersupply fry (a good high end corsair) that ended up burning a few pins on the socket of my mother board. The replacement psu came in a few weeks and the replacement motherboard came a month later. If I were dealing with one of the big box companies (dell, hp) and the computer was under warranty, I would have parts the next day to replace in. something to consider when buying or building yourself. Single vendor, less time wasted dealing with multiples, single source of drivers, single source for troubleshooting, single source of replacement.2 points -

I still don't see what niche this is satisfying. When it's fully open, it's awkward to hold.. and when it's closed and in phone mode, it's tall and narrow, hard to type on. It's still a from factor that nobody asked for. Folding screens will certainly be useful for future form factors, but how it stands now, in use with the Fold... no.2 points -

It's not really that confusing... Change is hard. Not confusing at all. I hope it doesn't take MS too long to get Teams for consumers in place. Uh huh, except you own a license to play the game on your PC, not up in some cloud server. That's the stance publishers are taking, specially when you have someone like Google who is doing the same thing but paying them to do it. And I find the idea that you're limiting yourself to just Steam and Battle.net for gaming is silly. I have Steam, GoG, EGS and Xbox Game Pass all installed, I'm hardly logging in every time I start a game. If anything the constant steam client updates annoy me more than all the choice of where to get games from. And why does it matter if a PC I'm playing it on is right next to me or in a datacenter?1 point -

Another thing to take into account, along with what sc302 has stated, is warranty. One thing I like about some of the pre-builts, or companies that build them for you and ship, is the warranty. The hassle with building your own is dealing with many different OEMs if something goes wrong; that always annoyed me. When I was younger and had time to troubleshoot and didn't really need a mission critical computer, tinkering and troubleshooting wasn't an issue, but the older I get the less time I have for that and just want something up and running. 😁1 point -

They don't force people to use Yammer, when it first started they did a fair bit of pushing to get people to sign up for it. We used to manage without it before, if there is anything important then tell us. Also not everyone has a smart phone. Or... they can write a policy to force you to install it on your own phone or gtfo. No they can't and what about people without smart phones? Even if they could force us to install it, they can not force us to read it. Yes they can, Mr. Individual. Yup. Teams (not sure about Yammer) has read receipts. And people without smartphones? Bill Gates calls Trump's de-funding of WHO dangerous
domboy reacted to dead.cell for a topic
Yes everyone made mistakes, nobody was prepared but WHO is a bigger picture org and they failed to ring the alarms about the pandemic in China to take protective measures. There is no transparency about their COVID-19 activities either which makes people think they arent doing something. They are certainly not talking about distributing ventialtors and decontamination of developing and 3rd world countries, there is no talk of vaccines. This. Forget about Trump, if your information from the WHO is bad, how do you prepare? The United States isn't the rest of the world, and surely the world isn't looking to Trump's expertise on the issue. This is literally the WHO's job though and if they're going to play politics or move at such a slow pace, they need to be ousted for people who are willing to communicate and act, rather than sit on stage talking about which country they'd like to be treated in the most like it's some internet debate lol. Let's put it another way, do you honestly expect Trump would shut down the US economy if the WHO advised that? No chance, Trump wasn't going to listen to anyone and the only reason the shut down happened was because of intense pressure on him to do so and even now he seems desperate to open up the economy when it's way too early to do that. At the end of the day, all countries had their own experts and knew what was going on, many made jokes about this virus, thinking it wouldn't happen over here, they didn't prepare and waiting until it was too late, it's highly unlikely anything the WHO would have said would have changed anything on that. Trump is just trying to deflect blame away from him self because he's getting a lot of heat and he knows he's the one that would get it in the neck if things go wrong, so he needs a scapegoat, anything that it can stick too and as we know, Trump has form in deflecting blame on others. What's really frightening for Americans is that if the US got infected first before Europe, would the US have closed down, I have a feeling the US wouldn't because they wouldn't want to give an edge to Europeans with their economy being open, Europeans having a more social system tends to put people first and with Europe getting the virus early, it made it easier for the US to shut down as well, but I have my doubt about the US on if they would have done the same thing if it was the other way round. I said forget about Trump, but you made a 180 and decided to talk about him more, then going off on the deep end with hypotheticals. Your only comment about the WHO is that maybe people wouldn't listen to them. Here's a news flash: if people can ring the bell on global climate change on a daily basis, the WHO can at least get off their ass when they see a serious issue. Hell, you can go take a look at the COVID-19 thread on the forum back when I posted about it in January and literally watch how many people said it wasn't a big deal... up until a point when it started to become serious. If the WHO actually stood their ground on calling this what it was, maybe there would be less people actually blowing it off. Hell, I recall people saying, "Yeah, well it's not a pandemic yet so relax..." That's just stupidity at its finest and if that's the best we can hope for with millions sunk into this organization, then I don't think we (as a collective of countries) aren't getting our moneys worth, US or no US.1 point
