  1. Too bad there is no AMD option with the new Ryzen 4000 series. Now we are in a place where a much more expensive premium notebook that is Intel based gives you less performance and lower battery life. It's not premium anymore if your $2000+ notebook can't keep up with a half as expensive AMD based system.

  5. Blame it on the virus to a degree but I honestly think these OEMs need to slow down on their big flagship releases, extend the cycles just a tad bit. You can fill in the the space between the longer releases with more mid and low end options that are your volume sellers anyways. People aren't dropping $1k or more on top flagships on mass every year, or 1.5 years either.

  6. Surface Book 3 specs revealed by Energy Star certification filing

Yeah. No idea why both Microsoft and Apple keep ignoring AMD. Maybe the 15inch Surface Laptop with AMD was a disaster? (It should have been the 13inch model and it needs better drivers) I'm sure it's timing was. Not long after the 4000 came out. Also, people expected the AMD's iGPU to be faster than Intel's even if the CPU wasn't, but it wasn't. So, it had no positive points which makes it odd they even not only made an AMD version, but also spent money making a custom GPU for it. I am a HUGE AMD fanboy, but that machine and its timing made no sense. That said if they made a 13in or Pro with the 4000 series and its performance/battery life is very comparable to the Intel, I'd go AMD with no thoughts otherwise.

Not long after, that died down but the reading of your private thoughts and other sorted personal business continues.

  15. Yep, Samsung will blame it on the virus, NOT the fact they are way over priced (as are all so called flagships). The virus, in some small way, may have started to smash the barrier on the overpriced smartphone, given the minor updates year after year. They are "good enough" and innovation is now considered how many camera lenses you can add, how colorful and stylish you can make it and IP ratings by gluing everything together, with a glass front & back, so you will destroy the device, if you ever attempt to repair it. Hopefully, with this virus, and the global economic slump in store for us in the future, the manufacturers will say "hey, if we drop the price we can sell more units at a cheaper price, and make up the difference from selling a few at a higher price".

I've seen some more malicious sites spam you with links like they were 2003 malware to dodgy viagra/fake news sites.

  25. It's become really good. Almost all the features of the win32 version but a better pen and touch platform. If you're mostly a mouse/pen person, then the win32 is better. why win32 is better with mouse? I didn't find any issue using the UWP with mouse. and no there is no way that a win32 app is better than uwp with pen (I'm referring to "mouse/pen person" the win32 version has more features than the uwp version. that's why i say if you're strictly a mouse person, the win32 version is the one to use. however, UI is everything and if you're a person that actually does use touch a lot, the uwp version is a much more pleasant experience. the buttons are way too small to touch in the win32 version. and it's not only the size but the flow of how to get to features. the win32 version relies a lot on right clicking and nesting. I'm a diehard Surface Pro user (owned Surface Pro 2, Surface Pro 4, Surface Pro 2017, and now Surface Pro 7) and OneNote on it only became useful with the UWP version. the win32 version was just way too dependent on a keyboard and mouse. The funny thing is I do use OneNote a lot on my monster desktop and I stick to the UWP version because the UI is different enough between UWP and Win32 that I didn't want to have to remember 2 interfaces. In a rapid stress environment where you're at a meeting or school, you need to focus on the task at hand of processing the info being presented rather than have to think about how to do some OneNote feature during that stress moment. So it's easier to commit to one UI so it becomes instinctive. So I chose UWP.

  27. With the Release Preview version 19041.208 (and 19041.207) Windows Media Player Visualization stop working / responding after playing the first song in it's entirety. It affects Windows Media Player's inbuilt visualizations as well as any 3rd party Visualizations (e.g. Soundspectrum Visualizers). The workaround is to go to the Next / Previous track and the visualizers will begin responding again, but I guess with Microsoft lack of interest in visualizers generally has allowed this to happen. Integrated WMP Visualizers are like Win98 and XP technology and resolutions, Groove was gonna have, but never got 3 new visualizers. For now it's manually skipping/shuffling the WMP tracks to make visualizations work.

  28. Yeah, because companies like Apple absolutely wouldn't monitor the activities of their users, and potentially report their records to the Government. Absolutely not. (sarcasm mode off) All companies unfortunately do this to a certain extent, it's users however are generally "blissfully unaware". Until people start demanding companies and governments stop behaving like this, it will continue. Until then, people need to accept it's the way things are, or stay away from technology all together. Ah, the good ole whataboutism.

  32. SteamVR will no longer be supported on Apple's macOS

Blah blah blah blah blah! It's because nobody but nobody does Steam VR gaming on a mac. No one does it on PC, either. Maybe buy a cheap headset, and then you won't feel the need to dismiss something that is still rapidly growing. (It helps get rid of the bah humbug sentiment.) I have a cheap headset, and it is used once a year if that. I bought an Oculus Quest a month ago and returned it a few weeks later. Did you try VR Porn?

  34. SteamVR will no longer be supported on Apple's macOS

Blah blah blah blah blah! It's because nobody but nobody does Steam VR gaming on a mac. No one does it on PC, either. Weird, I can't think on a single gamer friend that doesn't use VR several times a week. Hell, even older non-gamer friends are playing things like Beat Saber. Maybe buy a cheap headset, and then you won't feel the need to dismiss something that is still rapidly growing. (It helps get rid of the bah humbug sentiment.) The immersion threshold has been met, and outside of a Trek HoloDeck, I cannot imagine society regressing to display only gaming. Its main problems have been cost and performance, and current hardware, and hardware costs are making it very accessible. You don't need a Valve index, a Samsung Odyssey+ competes with higher end headsets, visually and in terms of accurate tracking. Heck, even the PS4 VR isn't bad, and that is today's low end. *A lot of people tried VR phone devices, which did little more than show a 3D movie. Real VR headsets are very different and less of a gimmich. The stereoscopic imaging, unlike the phone VR devices, is not important. Instead, it is about precise tracking head and hand movements in a virtual world. I have a proper vr headset. I’ve used it once this year lol

That might be the case but as for now, the reason is that macOS makes up 4% of gamers on steam, not worth their time and the Apple headache as you say.

  45. Reddit announces small group chat rooms for communities

Basically a toned down 4chan, where wrongthink is discouraged and pornography runs rampant. I used to feel differently about it before, but when I found myself in a thread about politics or something highly technical... and the top comment with thousands of votes was an "anime meme", you quickly realize Reddit is largely just a subset of people, not a full on diverse group.

  46. Zoom doesn't have 300 million daily users as claimed earlier

You bet. Teams is a great tool for organizations to work together, and has way more than video calling. The problem is, there are a lot of people who only want video calling, and Teams isn't built for that. It seems it's too tightly integrated. Teams should have been a little more a collection of individual products, which could be used on their own, but Teams brings them all together to be a powerful integrated collection. Instead they are killing their standalone chat and calling app in pursuit of an all-in-one product, where they should have just integrated Skype in. Lift both products in the process, rather than killing one for the other. We use both Teams and Zoom in our organization, because we have thousands of volunteers who need to connect to people externally, so most of the Teams functionality doesn't make sense for them, they just need video calling. It's easy to look back and criticize though. The reason Zoom is "simple" is mostly just because it doesn't have many features.
