Yeah. No idea why both Microsoft and Apple keep ignoring AMD. Maybe the 15inch Surface Laptop with AMD was a disaster? (It should have been the 13inch model and it needs better drivers) I'm sure it's timing was. Not long after the 4000 came out. Also, people expected the AMD's iGPU to be faster than Intel's even if the CPU wasn't, but it wasn't. So, it had no positive points which makes it odd they even not only made an AMD version, but also spent money making a custom GPU for it. I am a HUGE AMD fanboy, but that machine and its timing made no sense. That said if they made a 13in or Pro with the 4000 series and its performance/battery life is very comparable to the Intel, I'd go AMD with no thoughts otherwise.3 points -

Because google mesh is mu-mimo the performance degradation is minimal in a daisy chain configuration. What you have to make sure is that your repeater is in an area that has a very strong signal to repeat. If you put it in a weaker area it will repeat that weaker signal and you will have less bandwidth. I just had to deploy a solution that combined both google WiFi and ubiquity UniFi. There were certain areas that were very weak but when performing speed tests when placing google WiFi in those weaker areas caused an issue with speed. Some areas were not wired. I had a 4 station google nest WiFi and 3 unifi’s. Moving them a few feet over where signal strength was stronger allowed the google WiFi repeaters to repeat full bandwidth. Though I only needed about 100Mb/s to the internet because that was the speed that they purchased. when looking at the UniFi controller, the goggle nest WiFi devices were connected to them. specs for google nest WiFi. https://store.google.com/us/product/nest_wifi_specs You would think the the ceo for a multi million dollar org who owns a million+ dollar home would have faster internet. But he did serve me some 25 year Macallan so it was all good, he was very happy with the results.2 points

Surface Go 2 specs revealed by Energy Star certification filing

I honestly think there will be 4 versions from the Go 2: - 64 GB eMMC, 4 GB RAM and a 128 GB, 8 GB RAM version with the Pentium - 128 GB, 8 GB RAM and the LTE version with the 8100y chip the pentium versions without keyboard will range from 399-499€, the 8100y from 599-699€. No official info but around that. Then starts the SP7 i3. Nevertheless it is a lot of money for a Go, as the keyboard is not included. A lot of people will ask themselves: do I buy a Go 2 8100y or one of the many daily offers SP7 i5 128 GB? Near me I find this i5 version many times with keyboard for around 750€ and the G4 Iris graphic (and the cpu itself) is a whole world better than the 8100Y. So I'll wait for the Go2 and evaluate what it is better. I have the Go 1 and I just regret not having bought the SSD with 8 GB version, as somethimes it is not the cpu that bothers me but the lack of RAM with a pdf + word + couple of webpages, then Windows needs do use more memory page and slows everything down! Honestly, with such a ###### CPU you might as well get an iPad. Office 365 runs like crap on those rebranded atoms and if you want to do some PHP or js... forget about it lol. There should not be a Pentium + 4GB model. Base model should be the M3 + 8GB + 128GB SATA and higher model should just have more storage (NVMe). Kinda makes you wonder why they're using such a low powered CPU that even the ARM based ones seem better - what's the real point? No idea. Surface Go would make sense on ARM. But then again every manufacturer treats ARM as Premium, meanwhile it should be the opposite, cheap. Have you seen a WoA device that is less than what, 500Euro?1 point -

That was actually the second piece of great software Canon released in April. The first being image.canon which is used for seamless upload to cloud and the two go hand in hand together. "This is Canon’s first step in addressing one of the reasons that ILC sales have nose-dived — and as steps go, this is significant. It’s a sign that memory cards will soon be a thing of the past, and that in five or ten years, once data speeds have caught up to cope better with massive raw files, a photographer’s workflow will be seamlessly integrated with cloud technology." https://fstoppers.com/software...e-future-photography-479325 1:0 - Canon vs flash memory manufacturers.1 point -

Surface Book 3 specs revealed by Energy Star certification filing
John K reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
I agree that they should have some AMD options but at this point the 10nm mobile intel chips are pretty good actually, specially on the iGPU side. What I find interesting is that it's quad core, I have to wonder if they're going to have some type of option with 6 or 8 core + Quadro for the top model. I am looking at the Surface Book 2 and 3 line for one reason - Windows Hello. That it supports that an includes an nVidia GPU are definite pluses (I have an nVidia GPU in my desktop - and having mixed GPUs in my hardware is probematic). Almost certainly an i9 is expected for the top of the line (one DOES exist as a mobile part). The Surface Book 2 (or 3) makes for a decent either/or notebook - even with a mere i7 - which is why it's under consideration; surprisingly, it's cheaper than an Windows Hello-supporting HP notebook - which I would normally be considering (and which it will replace). MIxed GPUs problematic? Ok, maybe 20 years ago. Most systems today have multiple GPUs as the integrated GPU is left active, and Windows will use that GPU for compute and other OS level tasks. The SurfaceBook has two GPUs active if it has the dedicated NVidia GPU - as the Intel GPU in the tablet portion is still there and working. The beauty of the updated WDDM version in Windows 10, is the FULLY FORCED support of multiple GPU configurations. If any NVidia, AMD, Intel card doesn't work well with other models or brands, they don't get Microsoft certification. This also means working well in SMP and other multi-GPU load scenarios. So, in the past 5+ years, there are virtually zero GPUs on the market that don't work seamlessly on Windows. Now if you are dual booting to Linux, then I have to agree, multiple GPU configurations are a mess. (Even OS X is problematic with just AMD and Intel active.)1 point -

It's become really good. Almost all the features of the win32 version but a better pen and touch platform. If you're mostly a mouse/pen person, then the win32 is better. why win32 is better with mouse? I didn't find any issue using the UWP with mouse. and no there is no way that a win32 app is better than uwp with pen (I'm referring to "mouse/pen person" the win32 version has more features than the uwp version. that's why i say if you're strictly a mouse person, the win32 version is the one to use. however, UI is everything and if you're a person that actually does use touch a lot, the uwp version is a much more pleasant experience. the buttons are way too small to touch in the win32 version. and it's not only the size but the flow of how to get to features. the win32 version relies a lot on right clicking and nesting. I'm a diehard Surface Pro user (owned Surface Pro 2, Surface Pro 4, Surface Pro 2017, and now Surface Pro 7) and OneNote on it only became useful with the UWP version. the win32 version was just way too dependent on a keyboard and mouse. The funny thing is I do use OneNote a lot on my monster desktop and I stick to the UWP version because the UI is different enough between UWP and Win32 that I didn't want to have to remember 2 interfaces. In a rapid stress environment where you're at a meeting or school, you need to focus on the task at hand of processing the info being presented rather than have to think about how to do some OneNote feature during that stress moment. So it's easier to commit to one UI so it becomes instinctive. So I chose UWP. I also used UWP as well since somehow I prefer its UI and since I use OneNote more on my Surface Book, it makes more sense for me to use UWP being better for touch and pen response seems feels more responsive. Its sad that it seems OneNote UWP is now being considered as 2nd class now and they shifted their focus back to its Win32 version. Given how much work they put on OneNote UWP that was getting more closer and closer to Win32 and all gone to waste when they decided to focus on OneNote 2016 Win32 instead. Now the development is split and they are releasing Windows 10 X which is still UWP native. Yes Win32 apps can run on those with clever container implementation , but container will not going to take advantage all the native performance of UWP and newer UWP features without putting even more effort to make it work with Win32. Also this leaves Windows 10 X having lesser featured Office apps and this has been pretty much not well developed since the W10M development died. The longer they keep Win32 Office, the harder for them to rewrite it for UWP. Probably never and maybe the future is PWA office.1 point -

Oh yea, I fixed that son of a gun (AC Compressor pulley)
+hedleigh reacted to Jim K for a topic
Long story short. I'm not a mechanic, I'm medical. Most I ever do is change my oil (on the Explorer not the Infiniti). I have an old '01 Explorer and last week the bearing went out on the AC compressor pulley. Took it to two shops and they both quoted me between 550-700. Bump that. Got on YouTube ... watched a few videos and went "yea, I can do that". -Thursday after work I went at it. Removed the serpentine belt, unscrewed/removed the AC compressor clutch, removed the pulley and clutch coil. Went to the Autozone website and ordered a new AC clutch/pulley/coil package with next day delivery. -Friday (I was off work) the package came about 2. Installed the clutch coil which took a pretty long time (lots of gentle hammering). Tried to install the pulley ... and the sucker wouldn't go on. Bloodied my knuckle and called it a day. Figured I had screwed up and was wondering how to get it to the shop with my head hanging low. But...! -Today - After a couple cups of coffee I was back at it. Armed with fine grit sanding paper ... I gentle went around the edge of the compressor shaft and was finally able to start working on the pulley. After many gentle taps with said hammer ... sucker went all the way on and I secured it with the snap ring. Before installing the clutch, I hooked the serpentine belt back up...cranked it and to my surprise the pulley did go spinning off. Installed the clutch .. cranked it again ... turned on the AC and holy crap...it worked. No weird noises, sparks or smoke. So .. I spent .. $86 for the kit $30 for the serpentine belt removal tool $15 for snap ring pliers $8 for a baby hammer =$139 So basically I saved at least 400 bucks (if it holds together...ha). No real reason for this post ... just happy when I fix something which normally isn't in my "comfort zone" especially when it saved hundreds of dollars. Old pulley removed. You can see the ball bearings in the center of the pulley (left) ... when it went out it produced a lot of heat/smoke which I'm assuming started cooking the clutch coil (right). New install... Morale of this story ... you can do anything with YouTube and a hammer.1 point -

On the plus side I haven't had any meddling or interferance of silly suggestions regarding that service ever since, so there are some places where that isn't true.1 point -

SteamVR will no longer be supported on Apple's macOS

Blah blah blah blah blah! It's because nobody but nobody does Steam VR gaming on a mac. No one does it on PC, either. Weird, I can't think on a single gamer friend that doesn't use VR several times a week. Hell, even older non-gamer friends are playing things like Beat Saber. Maybe buy a cheap headset, and then you won't feel the need to dismiss something that is still rapidly growing. (It helps get rid of the bah humbug sentiment.) The immersion threshold has been met, and outside of a Trek HoloDeck, I cannot imagine society regressing to display only gaming. Its main problems have been cost and performance, and current hardware, and hardware costs are making it very accessible. You don't need a Valve index, a Samsung Odyssey+ competes with higher end headsets, visually and in terms of accurate tracking. Heck, even the PS4 VR isn't bad, and that is today's low end. *A lot of people tried VR phone devices, which did little more than show a 3D movie. Real VR headsets are very different and less of a gimmich. The stereoscopic imaging, unlike the phone VR devices, is not important. Instead, it is about precise tracking head and hand movements in a virtual world.1 point -

Blame it on the virus to a degree but I honestly think these OEMs need to slow down on their big flagship releases, extend the cycles just a tad bit. You can fill in the the space between the longer releases with more mid and low end options that are your volume sellers anyways. People aren't dropping $1k or more on top flagships on mass every year, or 1.5 years either.1 point -
