Twitter tests warning users when they write potentially offensive replies
psmoked and 5 others reacted to SeriouslyMaD for a topic
Who do they think they are to decide what's "hurtful?" or Offensive? this is mentally ill liberal trash. These weak mfs are offended by their own shadows. Just because they don't like something doesn't mean everyone else doesn't like it. This is how they try to control what people, think, know, and believe. Freedom of speech will never die. Eventually there will be some painful and forceful repercussions for telling someone "You can't say that." Go F yourself. I'll say what I want, when I want, how I want, where I want. 1,000 accounts and beyond. Americans won't be stopped.6 points -
Microsoft Edge Canary is suggesting users to get extensions from the Chrome Web Store
dontbeevil and 4 others reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
This is a good idea, as it makes it easier for average Chrome users to move to Edge without the extra steps to use Chrome extensions. I wouldn't be surprised if Google starts trying to (further) block Edge from getting extensions from the Chrome store. They already have thrown errors, and warnings at users, and a full block wouldn't be surprising, as they have done on their other services sites. Microsoft added additional security and checking to any installed extension, so even if Google doesn't care about bad extensions in their store, Microsoft will still be able to keep users safe, with the benefit of using extensions from anywhere without a major security compromise.5 points -

As long as I can block that feature, I'm fine with it. I wish we could establish firm guidelines for a media company doing business as a PLATFORM versus a PUBLISHER. These guidelines should include certain protection that match each type. Platforms shouldn't be allowed to censor those using their service--and should not be held responsible when one of their users goes off the rails. Publishers would be held at least partially responsible, but they'd also have "editorial control" over what users can or can't publish on their system. Right now, we have too many services playing both sides against the middle. Which is one reason I think BitChute is better.4 points -

Oh please. Your freedom of speech doesn't extend to private companies with a terms of service that you accepted when you signed up. I also disagree with their thinking especially as I view them to be an enabler for a certain mentally ill small minded "stable genius", they are basically saying one rule for you, another for he, but it is also their right under the protections you thought you're entitled to by using their service.4 points -

I want to make sure I understand what you are asking. So you are asking for someone to 'hack' a production copy of Windows 10 operating system to appear to be a different build version that it is. Is that right? If so, you're dancing on a very fine line with the Neowin TOS.3 points -

"potentially offensive replies" basically means the left will censor speech they don't agree with under the guise of it being "offensive" or "hateful" towards others (as usual). but nowadays, if you disagree with those on the left, which the sane people do, they try to claim what you said is hate speech or some other BS. they are afriad of opposing views because they know the truth is generally not on their side, so they got to resort to censoring people etc instead of letting the conversation play out and letting people choose what's best from the views presented.3 points -

I do get what you're saying and this would be a fun experiment (but nothing more) in a virtual machine or something similar. However in your earlier posts you were more specific about an app and said that you do not know what cumulative updates are and that you do not currently have the capacity to backup or upgrade, I really strongly advise against you messing around on your production machine like this in order to run some apps which will more than likely have issues if you manage to workaround the minimum version restrictions regardless. My understanding is that the build number is hardcoded and cannot be changed by simply editing the registry or changing some files. Anything further than this and you're definitely breaking the license so it cannot be discussed here. I find your concern over privacy settings in newer builds misguided. The newer builds are much more transparent and offer you more granular control over certain aspects than 1607 ever did, however basic telemetry has been in Windows for years definitely in Vista with CEIP but probably before that too, I've never been that bothered to check.2 points -

Native or not. Developers can choose not to support an OS build if said OS support has officially ended in of itself. This is not a new concept; just handled in a slightly different way now. You don't have to be rude with your request. Your wording in the OP in no way reflected that you're doing this just for fun or as a reverse engineering learning experience so why do you expect people to automatically take it that way? We tried to be nice an present reasons you should just upgrade to a supported build for your benefit and security and then you started getting defensive. As the old worldly saying goes, "Be kind and you will receive kindness in return". --- We're a tech forum oriented on doing things properly and assisting people to fix things. Reverse engineering isn't exactly most of our forte. Someone might be willing to assist but you'll need to be clear about it and give it some time 🙂 no need to tell off our members that are just trying to help you do the right thing though.2 points -

lol Windows 10 1507 is 5 years old. Sure. Windows 10 2004 is well... 5 months old give or take a CU. Windows 10 is a brand in itself now. Just like OS X/MacOS 10.x.x Microsoft is on record saying there will be nothing beyond Windows 10 in regards to the Windows brand. No Windows 11. Or Windows 12. Or Windows 2020. Yet we're still getting active updates every 6 months. Windows 10 2004 is significantly different than Windows 10 1507. Windows10X has yet to prove itself, and considering the delays, and dreadful product launches anytime MS attempts to depreciate legacy components and form a Modern OS, it fails miserably whether due to lack developer buy in, or them constantly rebooting the platform. Windows 10 has a long and feature packed future ahead of itself. Windows 10X... probably not so much. We'll how it pans out with OEM and developer support. Not holding my breath though. Would be nice.1 point -

“We believe the Internet should be uncensored. Open access to information is a bedrock of democratic society, and our mission is to create online tools that make digital freedom possible. Features like Smart Protocol Selection help our users get free access to the internet, even in the face of state or corporate censorship.” It's good that we can block apps like these in the first place, since for some the internet needs to be filtered. Since there is much more than information out there. Sorry for the rant, I just think people like Andy Yen sometimes need to pull their head out before they say something just to make it sound popular.1 point -
Microsoft Edge Canary is suggesting users to get extensions from the Chrome Web Store

Why not just get these extensions in the Edge Add-ons Store? This is only showing Edge users need to take an extra step or should bypass the Edge Add-ons store entirely. There weren't enough official apps on the Windows 10 store in the first months of release, and it became ingrained for user to skip the Windows 10 store, even after more apps started coming through eventually.1 point -

How to use Canon DSLR camera as a webcam with your PC
+hedleigh reacted to Tarrant64 for a topic
Part of the idea is that if you don't have a webcam available, which many don't, few may happen a DSLR sitting around that can be used in it's place. Webcams are hard to come by right now. And they're not inexpensive in a time period where money is tight for people. This isn't just about quality, it's about an alternative way to gain access to streaming over the web. Or did you somehow miss the fact we're in a pandemic and many people are stuck at home right now? A DSLR would be cumbersome as it is pretty large, so you need a tripod and while some of these people may have a tripod, you still have to find a good place to put it. I can get a webcam, plenty on Amazon, well in the UK there is and even in a store locally that does click and collect, granted they are in limited supply, saying that I understand it will not be the same in other countries. I do not think I would like to use my DSLR for a webcam. It’s a “silly idea” because you don’t think you’d want to use it? Ive been using a DSLR as part of my streaming solution for months, the quality is well above anything a webcam is capable for. Is it overkill? Sure. But that’s the users choice. With much of the worlds workforce’s working from home, the supply chains dry for items such as webcams - I applaud Canon for reacting with this solution. Or is it that Canon are trying to sell more of their cameras? With support for older cameras on the list, that's an overly cynical stance that holds little water. And even if they were - so what? Is a company selling more of their products a "silly idea"? Be upfront: You made a daft comment based around you not wanting to use this or not comprehending it, and you are now inventing further arguments rather than just syaing "Yeah, fair play - I'm not the audience here". I do not have a canon camera for a start, I have a Panasonic, i do not know if that can be used as a webcam, and to be honest I would not want it to be. I can kind of understand using a DSLR for a family if they are say sat on the sofa, most webcams would not cope too well with that and for live-streaming on YouTube, but not your average Joe talking to their mates on line, in fact I expect a lot of them would use their phone anyway. Sure, if all you have got is a canon DSLR camera then yes I agree it is ok to use, but i would try to get a webcam as quickly as i could, smaller and easier to set up for a start YOU would. That's the crux of it. MANY other people do use their DSLR for streaming. Smaller and easier isn't always EVERYONE's agenda. Still not sure If I would want to use an expensive camera for it to be honest, then again at the moment my camera have had very little use for the last few months. This is one of those things where you just need to take yourself out of the equation and look at what this can accomplish for others. Just because it doesn't work for you, doesn't make it silly.1 point -

PCIe 3.0 could be crippling AMD's RX 5500 XT performance
hellowalkman reacted to tkyoshi for a topic
Read past the headline, there is an explanation...the card uses more bandwidth than higher end cards due to its low amount of VRAM. What low amount of VRAM 8Gb? The card comes in both 4 GB and 8 GB versions. 4gb variant is a relic of the past, that garbage should not even exist. Radeon 5500 XT is garbage product AMD wants $200 where you can get RX590 which is better for $170 No one is talking about the validity of the products, it is just an interesting comment that cards with too little VRAM will use more PCIe bandwidth. I tend to agree with your assessment of the 5500 XT GPUs, I would have liked them better priced around $150. Reason is once you run out of onboard VRAM it will use System RAM to supplement (like how Integrated Graphics can dynamically allocate System RAM for GPU operations), that is why the lower VRAM models will be hit harder, if you have enough onboard VRAM then it will have minimal traffic going out to main System RAM and the GPU/CPU operations alone aren't enough to saturate the bus. The GPU itself is not constrained by 8-Lane, it's more situations that exceed it's onboard memory, the extra bandwidth would be useful since the PCI-E Bus is much much slower even with 16X. You see similar issue with TB3 eGPU's, if you exceed the VRAM of your card then performance tanks since it's only a TB3 x4 link so bandwidth to System RAM is quite slow and the TB3 protocol also adds some overhead so it's not even fully up to 4x bandwidth.1 point
