Lenovo announces new ThinkPads with AMD Ryzen 4000 processors
dustojnikhummer and 2 others reacted to ZombieEinstein for a topic
They absolutely kill it at multi-threading and 'traditional' workloads. Their TDP is much lower, which could translate to better battery life for the processor. And part of it is just frustration at OEMs dragging their feet over Ryzen. Most continue to really only offer Intel - despite Ryzen competing, if not exceeding, in most categories, while being a much lower price point. First generation of two of Ryzen, sure, I can understand. OEMs probably had to design new motherboards and might have not seen the investment worth it going by AMD's previous release track record. But for the third and fourth generation? Now it is just starting to feel like OEMs are being paid by Intel to place their processors exclusively in the flagship models.3 points -

It depends on your workload. It's absolutely dominating in multi threaded applications and digital content creation. In single threaded applications it slightly ahead of Intel's latest offerings. Early test results show that even a low end AMD notebook can easily beat an Intel notebook that costs two to three times more. Best of you read some reviews around the web. Anantech tested yesterday a low-mid range notebooks from Acer the Swift 3 SF314 Notebook which showed what the low power Ryzen can do.3 points -

That seems like a bit of an exaggeration. The Wii U failed horribly, yes, but the 3DS did pretty well, and I think your particular case with the 2DS XL wasn't a universal experience across the 3DS family. You bought it pretty late into the game, to be fair. Same with the Wii - you may not have had much use for it, but it did sell over 100 million hardware units and 921 million software copies. With that being said, the Switch is definitely bouncing Nintendo back from that Wii U experience, but to say that they needed this badly implies that they've been doing horribly for years, when they've been doing fairly well in many regards.3 points -

possible to disable password based login in Windows 10 ?
devHead reacted to waysidesc for a topic
it is my fault; please do not apologize. this admittedly is a very strange scenario, but i wanted a relative to have access to my computer --- that only uses a microsoft account --- to access shared notebooks/workspaces with OneNote/Groove 2007 for collaboration over my network ( for this, traditional --- that is, microsoft account --- credentials are necessary ) or even the cloud, but without the relative being able to login to my computer itself. this is why i wish to eliminate the option to use a password to login. in hindsight, i guess i could collaborate with the onenote app that syncs to the cloud so that it is not necessary to share over a network, but it still strikes me as odd that this is not an option.1 point -

yes, just switch to sign in with a local account instead and don't type a password, it's under accounts and your info. Or if you want to keep your microsoft account, type in run command "control userpasswords2" and uncheck users must enter a username .... make sure to type your full email address as the username and password for your account wait i misread, too much wine, disregard ha 😛1 point -

Bruinator reacted to Brandon H for a topic
I'd love to be proven wrong here but I don't think your going to find a full solution for this kind of conversion which is probably why you've been hitting a dead end. USB headsets usually require drivers to use; they're not generally generic. If there is an adapter it would have to be a full conversion box as they're 2 different types of signals. and if the converter box works you'd lose the volume controls of the headset most likely.1 point -

🤣 sigh Why sigh? I am laughing at him, not agreeing. He has the typical attitude of “I don’t use it, so it’s not a feature” that a particular collection of Neowinians have. To say there have been no features in the last 5 years is one of the stupidest comments I have read in a long time. Oi, adrynalyne, I am sighing because of his comment, not yours. You can even see my list of new features above this post ! I am sorry for the confusion. here : https://www.neowin.net/news/mi...ast-ring/#comment-598545210 with that said, i would write my favorite version is 1703. i have the fondest memories of that one ... I’m at the point of my life where I just don’t care anymore. I don’t care which OS it is as long as it lets me do what I need. I’ve been using macOS daily for the past two months which is far more often than before and honestly, it’s just a different color of the same old crap. Windows, Linux, I feel the same about. The only thing that has excited me about any OS recently is WSL2.1 point -

cork1958 reacted to shockz for a topic
This is intended as a cable replacement. Not a streaming service like Netflix or CBS All Access. The more competition in this arena, the better. The biggest problem with cable in my area is that only one provider has been available and has full monopoly on pricing. The more of these, the better. YouTube TV/Hulu Live/Sling are all about 40 bucks cheaper than a standard cable package here (outside of the 1 year promo pricing and you're locked in for another 1-2 years with a 10-20 increase afterwards, yearly.).1 point -

As I'v already pointed out, you are already agreeing to their rules when you choose to use their services. They also don't control any of the population, they control the content on their services. >They also don't control any of the population Sure, keep thinking that. okay, I'll bite, how???1 point -

The company who's service people choose to use, that's who. You are acting like there is an alternative for Facebook, Twitter or Youtube. Spoiler alert: There is not. 2 points. First being, there are alternatives, these sites are used for communicating and none of them hold a monopoly on communication. The second is that again these are private companies who offer services that you choose to use. You are not obligated or forced to use any of them. By using their services, you are agreeing to whatever rules they decide what's best for their company.1 point -

Seriously, I can't put you on ignore? What gives you the right to spew your political crap on these articles? Rules do not apply to owners/admins..... What is funny is that a lot of idiots post stuff to twitter not just the Pres. But that is the only person who was mentioned. Must be that TDS going around again. What rule am I breaking, please clarify. Regarding the Pres: I just figured it was a great example that everyone can relate to on one level or another Was not you specifically. But there was a recent front page post that had over 100 replies and was just another bashing thread because Bill gates was loosely mentioned. Well it is because a certain person has been saying/suggesting that Bill Gates is being charitable to profit off drug companies, while this is totally untrue, but loose lips from a certain "stable genius" has the power to ruffle the features of a lot of dumbass sheep-follower types who then burn down 5G masts and protest at city hall with AK 47s... Good times And what does that have to do with tech? Post was 1 percent tech, the rest unrelated to the forum. That was my point. A lot of people have complained about the same things but no post about it on the front page. I will chalk it up to a slow news day,1 point -
EA says it will be possible to "upgrade" its games for the next generation for free
olepaketa reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
There is no technical reason that it can't be done for free, a lot of the work is likely already done on the PC port of the same game so it shouldn't take much for them to use that for the next gen consoles. The real problem could be Sony and Microsoft, any update on anything like a patch update adds a cost that Sony and Microsoft will likely to want to collect so that gives a lot of publishers and developers far less incentives to upgrade those games for free, especially when it's costing them money, on the PC they don't have that problem, they just patch it and thats that.1 point -

Oh please. Your freedom of speech doesn't extend to private companies with a terms of service that you accepted when you signed up. I also disagree with their thinking especially as I view them to be an enabler for a certain mentally ill small minded "stable genius", they are basically saying one rule for you, another for he, but it is also their right under the protections you thought you're entitled to by using their service. Then Twitter should be a publisher with all of its disadvantages... you don't get your cake and eat it too. Except twitter isn't a publisher... Yes, but they act like one... Not really... it's no different than a site like neowin posting news from other sources. Until twitter becomes a dedicated news service with it's own employees publishing original content as news (and no, town hall streams don't count), it's nothing more than a glorified RSS reader with user commentary when it comes to published works. Except they actively choose who can and can not post, aka banning people they don't like... which makes them a publisher... Um no, that doesn't make them a publisher.1 point -

How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

Not possible. The package was build with a minimum version for a reason and running that old a version of Windows likely does not include assemblies that the app requires. I think you choice is to upgrade to a newer version of Win 10 or find another app to do what you are looking to do.1 point
