  1. Microsoft will likely be able to learn from Apple's ARM MacBook

Apple's already done a very good job of killing off their professional and prosumer markets. This ARM approach makes it clear that this was deliberate. I don't think Microsoft wants to learn anything from Apple in this regard...

Zag L.'s point is that what you are requesting help with goes against Windows' licence. Which in turn means that what you are requesting assistance with goes against the following community rules: Whether someone does or doesn't get hold of software illegally is beside the point. The discussion asking for help in circumventing a system is not allowed on these Forums. If you want to do it then that's your business, but you're on your own.

1607 is quite old now and support should be expiring soon if not already. Have you tried newer builds? 1909 is quite stable and has a few nice quality of life improvements since then too. You could always install to another partition or another drive to test out to see if it's stable enough for your needs so you don't disturb your current install. I'm running 2004 Release Preview on my tower at home and it also seems perfectly stable to me just for the record 🙂

  6. Do you think its too pricy? The price for all you get seems pretty good to me. I don't know that I've ever owned a phone with MIUI so I can't speak to difficulties using it. I thought it was all basically Android. I used to run MIUI on my Nexus 4 back in 2013 and loved it tbh. Not used their stuff since but I might consider buying one of their Redmi phones when my phone breaks. It's one of those, a Nokia, or a refurbished phone.

  8. Canada? This has nothing to do with open carry. If this happened in an open carry state ... and _if_ that had been a real gun ... the cops could have (and legally) considered it brandishing/unlawful display/etc (pointing, waving and/or displaying a firearm with intent on causing fear). Open carry != doing whatever you want with your weapon out in public. Of course, the cops in this video are idiots....

If you can’t afford the software licenses, have enough integrity to use something open source or free. We developers have to eat too, it’s not all about you. If you can afford it and still pirate, that is pathetic.

Uh no you can't guarantee that, and yes I have in fact, not only on a Windows system but also a Mac. Again you have to compromise somewhere, either update your OS to the latest version or run the latest version in a VM, Windows will free up some of that RAM.

  12. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

I fail to see how that invalidates anything else I pointed out. A home system has the resources to create a VM that would support the application that you want to use. Or you upgrade Windows so that it can run the application. Or you find a different piece of software that is compatible with the build of Windows that you have.

  17. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

I do get what you're saying and this would be a fun experiment (but nothing more) in a virtual machine or something similar. However in your earlier posts you were more specific about an app and said that you do not know what cumulative updates are and that you do not currently have the capacity to backup or upgrade, I really strongly advise against you messing around on your production machine like this in order to run some apps which will more than likely have issues if you manage to workaround the minimum version restrictions regardless. My understanding is that the build number is hardcoded and cannot be changed by simply editing the registry or changing some files. Anything further than this and you're definitely breaking the license so it cannot be discussed here. I find your concern over privacy settings in newer builds misguided. The newer builds are much more transparent and offer you more granular control over certain aspects than 1607 ever did, however basic telemetry has been in Windows for years definitely in Vista with CEIP but probably before that too, I've never been that bothered to check.

  18. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

I want to make sure I understand what you are asking. So you are asking for someone to 'hack' a production copy of Windows 10 operating system to appear to be a different build version that it is. Is that right? If so, you're dancing on a very fine line with the Neowin TOS.

  19. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

Hello, Windows 10 Version 2004 (earlier referred to 20H1) is expected to be out soon. When it becomes available, I would suggest that you use the Windows 10 Media installation Tool to make a bootable USB flash drive--or DVD±R DL disc, if you prefer--out of it and perform a clean install of it to the computer, wiping the drive first before installation so Windows 10 has a blank drive to install to. Instructions for that can be found in this earlier message on the forum. Once Windows 10 is installed, let is install any device driver or other post-installation updates that are required. Then go ahead, and install Paint 3D onto the computer and see how it performs. My suspicion is that it will perform adequately (you did not mention the specs for your computer besides it having 8GB of RAM, so it's hard to tell for certain, but on a modern, recent computer with 8GB of RAM it should indeed perform quite well). Now start re-installing the remainder of your applications and getting them updated and configured as you like them, and then restore your data from whatever backups you have made of it. Do not install any third-party system tweaking/performance/cleaning/etc. tools. Windows 10 performs these functions automatically, and there is no need to install any third-party software to do this for you. Most of these programs have no benefit, and make changes that actually degrade the overall performance, reliability and stability of your system. Likewise, do not run any scripts or tools that claim to disable Windows telemetry, "debloat" Windows 10 or claim to perform similar such activities. All that they do is break Windows in various ways that cause Win32 programs to crash, updates to fail, UWP programs (apps) to fail, etc. Microsoft, like Apple and Google, collect telemetry in their operating system about how it performs, and this information is anonymized so Microsoft doesn't have any PII about its customers from the data. What they are mainly looking for is problems in the operating system, drivers or software that cause crashes, so they can fix those if in Microsoft's code, or work with the developers of those programs to help fix in theirs. That's pretty much about it. Of course, during Windows 10's installation, you can choose to opt-out or reduce the amount of telemetry being sent, and that's fine, you can go ahead and select those options--disabling there isn't going to do anything to affect Windows stability like the aforementioned tools do. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  20. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

Not possible. The package was build with a minimum version for a reason and running that old a version of Windows likely does not include assemblies that the app requires. I think you choice is to upgrade to a newer version of Win 10 or find another app to do what you are looking to do.

  23. Microsoft will likely be able to learn from Apple's ARM MacBook

Microsoft should learn from Google and realise that getting something popular means making it more open and affordable. Chromebooks gained traction because there are $200 laptops, $100 sticks/boxes, and even custom options to boot them on things like RasPi. This makes it lucrative to students, schools, hobbyists, developers to buy/test/experiment, and once they gain traction, users will be willing to pay for better hardware. This is also why android succeeded with $100-200 phones flooding the market. Every MS expirement Windows Phone/Windows RT/ and now Windows ARM seem to start off at a very expensive price which a lot of people may not want to spent on a Beta product, which may be killed in a year or two They should make WinArm free and open/portable to other chips/devices like Raspi and cheap notebooks and tablets like rockchip and mediatek - so as to get developer/hobbyist/education traction,

  24. Facebook will let most employees work from home through the end of 2020

But how long, until they start to say "we are only going to pay you for the ACTIVE time you are doing something". What does that have to do with working from home? They shouldn't pay you to watch Netflix or sleep at you desk just because there's a pandemic. I didn't say they would. My point is, that if you are at your desk at work, you clock in, clock out, so to speak. When you are at home, you can easily take a nap, play with your phone, watch tv etc...my point is, unless you are typing away on your keyboard, how are they to know you are "working". It will really depend on management, you will have some that want to keep track of every minute, other's as long as there generally aware of what you're doing and meeting your objectives / projects, they don't care.

  28. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

As @Matthew S. said, it's the latest build so there's no reason not to. I've had a lot of experience with every single build of Windows 10 as I've been deploying it to sites since 1507 was released. There's no point in you going to 1809 because you'll just be in the same position again with unsupported software etc. not so much now but over time.

  29. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

No you definitely can. Anyway if your concern is just having 8GB RAM then just upgrade to 1909 it's really not going to be an issue.

  30. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

I did. Back at uni for 2 years, when I had a macbook with 8GB RAM. For compatibility reasons at the time it was easier to jump in to a VM to do my coursework. I'm not saying it was blindingly fast, but it was a sacrifice I had to make in order to use the applications that I needed. If whatever application you are trying to use is that resource intensive, you're going to have to compromise one way or another.

  31. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

I have, in fact I normally have 2-4 (sometimes even as high as 9, not including WSL) VM's running at any given time on my PERSONAL system at home, in fact when I work on any side projects at home before I'm ready to release a new build I typically spin up a fresh VM of Windows 10 (build number dependent on the minimum version I want to support/target) so that I can test in a clean environment that I got the correct build and the required API's/libraries included in the installation folder. I typically only allocate 4GB of ram to a VM, even if it's going to be under heavy load.

  32. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

Uhh no, thats not how it works in an enterprise/corporate environment, you use vm's if you have to upgrade when required. If somethings not compatible and there is no viable replacement, VM, if there is a viable replacement move to it, if the software is not compatible with the currently installed OS, upgrade the OS to the next LTS release.

  33. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

Actually considering the risks involved with using a pirated version of Windows, yea I have bought every license key of windows I own and I'm sure the majority of Neowin's members are of the same mindset. Other software, maybe in my youth I did that, now I pay for every piece of software I own (if required otherwise FOSS versions)

  34. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

The problem here is that the Windows 10 license specifically prohibits attempts to “…reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software…” so what you are asking for is in violation of the license and as such I'd think continuing this discussion is in violation of the Neowin Terms of Service.

  40. Microsoft releases Windows 10 build 19624 to the Fast ring

lol Windows 10 1507 is 5 years old. Sure. Windows 10 2004 is well... 5 months old give or take a CU. Windows 10 is a brand in itself now. Just like OS X/MacOS 10.x.x Microsoft is on record saying there will be nothing beyond Windows 10 in regards to the Windows brand. No Windows 11. Or Windows 12. Or Windows 2020. Yet we're still getting active updates every 6 months. Windows 10 2004 is significantly different than Windows 10 1507. Windows10X has yet to prove itself, and considering the delays, and dreadful product launches anytime MS attempts to depreciate legacy components and form a Modern OS, it fails miserably whether due to lack developer buy in, or them constantly rebooting the platform. Windows 10 has a long and feature packed future ahead of itself. Windows 10X... probably not so much. We'll how it pans out with OEM and developer support. Not holding my breath though. Would be nice.

  41. How to bypass Windows10 build version checking?

Native or not. Developers can choose not to support an OS build if said OS support has officially ended in of itself. This is not a new concept; just handled in a slightly different way now. You don't have to be rude with your request. Your wording in the OP in no way reflected that you're doing this just for fun or as a reverse engineering learning experience so why do you expect people to automatically take it that way? We tried to be nice an present reasons you should just upgrade to a supported build for your benefit and security and then you started getting defensive. As the old worldly saying goes, "Be kind and you will receive kindness in return". --- We're a tech forum oriented on doing things properly and assisting people to fix things. Reverse engineering isn't exactly most of our forte. Someone might be willing to assist but you'll need to be clear about it and give it some time 🙂 no need to tell off our members that are just trying to help you do the right thing though.

You do realise that the MSVCRT is just a runtime (your reference to the c++ redistribution package) since the compiler and standard library version changes with each compiler revision and thus changes the ABI, it is not the OS baked API's. Also no tech/IT expert worth their salt would do that in a production environment.

  49. Probably one of the only applications I still absolutely love. Waited for it to come to the US back when they first debuted. I am still concerned for their health in terms of profitability, as well as artists for that matter. I don't use Apple Music, but last I checked, they still paid out better for artists there. Saying this only out of concern for the lesser known artists I've found through the platform. Not sure how well that translates to their survivability as an artist. (I have supported a few artists directly through Bandcamp though, along with pushing good artists on Soundcloud)

Why not good for epic? This is the same ###### they pull by preventing releases on the steam store and only allowing them on the epic(ly crap) game store they "prevent" releases on the steam store or they just don't want to pay some other company to do basically nothing but have a server sit there with their game on it? I've got no love for epic, but let's not pretend google or steam have done much to justify their massive cuts of epics work.
