California is the sewer of the USA so leaving there is a no-brainer. but it's obvious everyone is over-reacting to COVID-19 as it's far less of a threat then the media etc make it out to be (you probably have at least a 98-99%+ chance of living if you get COVID-19 but they act like it's a massive threat to society when it's far from it). but they would rather destroy the economy and millions of lives and the left treats honest people like criminals when they just want to get back to work as you can see with that woman in Texas who owned that haircut place trying to force her to apologize like she's the villain when it's really the judge abusing his power. the left treats criminals better than honest citizens. Wow, where to start. Let's ignore the laughably bad false comparisons to forced imprisonment and start with a simple one: No one is trying to stop YOU from getting sick and dying. People have every right to be as ignorant, cowardly, and gullible in order to fall for the fearmongering lies of charlatans and would-be demagogues as they want to be. What you DON'T have the right to do is put OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES at risk through your actions. And THAT'S what the lockdown orders are intended to do. So, no, they aren't unconstitutional, as my right to defend my life, property, and family (sound familiar?) PREDATES the constitution as the castle doctrine and rights of self-preservation are INALIENABLE (recognize this word?). The overwhelming majority of us representing society on the whole are just fine with protecting ALL OF US (including your vulnerable parents and grandparents too!) from selfish, ignorant, gullible, and cowardly ignoramuses for a little while -- which is all this is, just a little while.8 points -

Of course...it's the media...why didn't we think of that before. How can they posibly be wrong something that is world wide.. Beside, your math is way wrong. Based on the people infected and death rate in the US, it's a 6%. That is of course when they die. There is also a percentage that are infected and are in critical treatment. 1 out of 20 dead is a very high ratio. In Mexico we're about 10% death rate.6 points -

Actually, I think I'll trust the opinions of the smart, educated, and empathetic people based on the truth, facts, and evidence as evaluated by medical professionals, scientists, and actual experts, thanks. Problem is nobody is getting real numbers since hospitals are incentivised to say everything is covid related. The fact that these numbers aren't right serves only to increase unrest, and the fact that the numbers are bad is clearly the current administration's fault. Deaths seem to be targeted to people with prior health issues so it makes sense to quarantine those people off instead. Testing isn't at the level it needs to be and officials are saying it's not even possible to reach those levels. Quarantine was the smart play at first. Now that it is widespread it's not going to work so infecting everyone and building up herd immunity is the smart play now.2 points -

Microsoft reveals why new Surface devices don't come with a physical webcam cover
quikmantx and one other reacted to +mram for a topic
You don't recommend cars, TVs, any iphone or android phones, security cameras, etc, etc .. all because they can't be covered? There are countless numbers of devices out there without a cover on the camera. I'd love to see the convolutions you and others who believe in the way you do to justify that this is somehow OK in this isolated scenario where it's not OK in others. Whether you agree with the philosophy or not, a shutter is a very old way to prevent viewing. This doesn't mean it can't be hacked, but damn, I bet you don't exactly blacken out your windows on your home either. The level of paranoia here can get a little obscene. And no, you can't say that you trust Apple or Google where you don't trust Microsoft. No matter which vendor you pick, they all can potentially be hacked, but then what? Nowadays I have "easier spying" with handheld gopro cameras in small remote drones that all they need is line of sight to you.2 points -

Microsoft reveals why new Surface devices don't come with a physical webcam cover
matthiew and one other reacted to zhangm for a topic
The explanation makes sense and the physical design of the system, hard-wiring the LED indicator into the camera power circuit is sensible. However, that isn't the issue for people asking for a shutter - they don't trust the indicators in the first place, so explaining how they work may not help much to ease their minds. Tape's an ugly hack and probably doesn't help much with the mic, but at least it's easy to get and costs about nothing at all. If MS put in a shutter, I'm sure it would raise the unit cost by another 10 - 15$ and it would be yet another moving component that could break after years of use.2 points -

Given how customer service lines work, I doubt there was really any alternative to having to put him on hold since this is a pretty strange issue that probably required escalation. While it did get fixed in the end, it's still unfortunate that the customer had to put in time and effort for Google's benefit - I think they should have given him some small token of appreciation, like an app store credit, a warranty extension, or a quiet discount on his invoice as a "we oopsed, thanks for your time."2 points -

I find these covers just a sign of "I'm a ######ing PC idiot". If a hacker has access to your camera, they have already been logging every login you've used for banks, retirement funds, credit accounts, social media, full access to the files on your drive also. By that point, the camera is the LEAST of your concerns. They already have access to your life.1 point -
OPPO's 40W fast charging degrades battery capacity to 70% in same cycles as 15W would to 90%
+E.Worm Jimmy reacted to zhangm for a topic
Is the definition of a cycle here dead to 100%? What are the results if we're only looking at a limited cycle like 15% to 50%? If it's a charge-independent system then that's a pretty serious trade-off for the speed. OTOH if the degradation isn't signficant at certain points in the charge cycle, like charging a nearly-depleted battery to half-capacity, then it is still a great option to have available if you need to quickly bump the charge by 10% while getting a cup of coffee or something. I charge when I wake up and usually get a day's worth of light usage while I'm showering, maybe taking capacity from 20% to 55 or 60%.1 point -

Nearly the same list, plus several more severe issues can be named for any Apple Macbook, and most OEM PC vendor models. People pretending like this is unique or extra bad is just not accurate. They also seem to skip over the advantages, like Microsoft's support and replacement features. Note, Microsoft is fixing these for FREE. This isn't Apple saying denying the problem or putting in a cutoff date for getting fixed nearly a year after the first models shipped or other crap they use to burn Apple Care allotment and other ######-ary.1 point -

Sounds like you think from a Windows perspective. Maybe it's odd then, but once you commit it shows that most hot keys are much more logical (to me they are (and I am a former Windows user)). Print screen options are much more complex because you can do much more than on Windows. That's why it is dedicated. That's why there is not just one button that does not do what you want it to do because it is not flexible (paste to Paint??).1 point -

Agreed, but if you're an idiot like me with a FireTV (I hate Alexa after spending time with it), it makes for easy casting to the TVs without the capability. Sometimes I just want to pull something interesting up and it's super useful. If I had to go back, I'd probably have stuck with Roku. AppleTV wouldn't be bad if they fixed the damn remote. I gave away all my FireTV devices. Hated how Amazon was forcing all their crap on you. I replaced them all with Nvidia Shield TV boxes at my house (2 Shield TVs and a Mi Box S), my son's house (1 Shield TV) and my parent's house (1 Shield TV). I've had Rokus, AppleTVs, FireTVs, and generic android TV boxes. Shield TV is by far my favorite.1 point
