I just purchased the Redmi Note 8 Pro myself.. and for a mid-range phone, I have nothing to complain about. Lots of features, (I do like the Game Boost feature) some I might not ever use like Second Space, Dual apps.. etc. And with this phone, if you miss an OTA update/upgrade, you can download the files directly from the Xiaomi servers... which I did to upgrade it to Android 10. Not bad for under $200.2 points -

It has an AMD E1-6010 in it, and initially shipped with 2GB of RAM. I have since upped it to 8GB, but Windows 10 is a dog on it. I think opening Notepad spikes the CPU to 100% lol. Microsoft is beginning to phase out 32-bit support for Windows 10
Circaflex and one other reacted to GeoffMcN for a topic
32-bit Apps will still run on 64-bit Windows (ARM or Intel), so no change there. This announcement is about the OS, not the Apps. It's all about RAM. A 32-bit OS can only access 4GB of RAM, which isn't much in 2020. The amount left available to running Apps will be less than that (after the OS takes some), and multitasking many Apps at once will be a problem. A 32-bit App can only access 4GB of RAM, but the PC itself can have more. So running many Apps at once is easy.2 points -

Sony released a video camera in the early 2000s that had a "super IR" feature for better visibility in low light. I bought said video camera for my nephew to use at my wedding. Turns out, if you used the feature in daylight, it could see through certain layers of fabrics. So, this yielded unusable video because: 1) It was all green-tinted akin to a light nightvision effect 2) You could see which ladies opted to not have a visible panty-line2 points -

Huawei trade ban with the US extended through 2021
300z reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
That's been the problem of the US government, using trade as a weapon isn't a good move to entice investment in the country. After all, would you as a business want to use any US tech or services if the US can come up with any trumped-up charge and ban you from using it? It makes a lot of sense now for a lot of governments and companies around the world to diversify by having more options around the world so the US can't do that on them because if they can do it to China and Huawei, they can do it to any country and company around the world if they see them as a threat to US power. The ones paying the price for this is the US economy and US companies and everyone else is gaining because it leaves a void open for others to take advantage off whiles also giving us more options, the American consumers are paying the price by having less choice which usually means higher prices. China must be laughing at Trump because it's backfiring.1 point -

Reviews can be paid for, I’d rather go with trusted user experiences here. I trust the members here a lot more than most review websites I appreciate all the info though, thank you! 💪 That is why I go to different sources and not just one and also try to get users views as well, but sometimes they can be iffy, nothing to do with being paid for but because they have no idea what they are doing or saying. My LED printer for a start, a colleague got the one below mine and showed me the printouts over a coffee, this was way before the lockdown. I liked the print outs, but looking at the specs of the printer, I thought the model above would be better, so I looked for user reviews and some people saying it can't do this or that, duplex don't work. I went to YouTube in the end and got some good reviews on it and duplex is fine on it, the driver is a bit strange that is all. so I got it and it is a great printer. So you can not always rely on user reviews either. That is the point, I wonder if anyone has reviewed this service on YouTube. Ok, I had a quick look and there are some, but not great, the company is Swedish, but has a footprint in the U.S. i found this in their help section . It's like Dropbox, but not at all! Degoo and Dropbox differ in several ways. Degoo is purely focused on backup and Dropbox is a more complex product with features like file syncing and file sharing. Focusing solely on backup enables us to create a truly awesome backup experience without any compromises. For instance: It drastically reduces our server costs, which is why we can offer so much more space for free. You get up to 100 GB free on sign up with Degoo compared to Dropbox where you start of with only 2 GB. Which proves what I said, they are more for straight forward backup.1 point -

That's strange. This machine is a Studio 1737 with 4G ram and it runs just like it did in 2008. I'm not willing to give it up because it has a full sized professional keyboard. I have thought about adding more ram, but the 4G DDR2 sticks cost like $130 per. And it doesn't need it. Windows 10 runs just fine in 4 gigs. I have this too ! Do you use SSD ? Please write that you are not using the integrated graphics ! I added a SSD about five years ago, but it also still has the original Disk drive. And yes, I use the integrated graphics. I have no need for anything else. I love this machine.1 point -

Epic Games shows off Unreal Engine 5 on the PlayStation 5
kennyout reacted to Elliot B. for a topic
If it wasn't from the Unreal Engine guys no one would believe it, especially given the heavily edited Sony preview footage ads from the past, but it is from the Unreal Engine guys, they're showcasing an engine people will not only have high level access to for testing and production but also the source code, and they've proved their stunning work many times over in the past. No ones questioning the ability of the engine itself. It's just that tech demos like this, for any engine, don't always translate to actual games. Their old UE4 tech demo has stuff in it that no game actually used to the same extent, if at all. Exactly. I'd be surprised if PS5 games actually look like this in reality.1 point -

Epic Games shows off Unreal Engine 5 on the PlayStation 5
qbrick reacted to Neonix1 for a topic
Ya, interesting Sony got them to demo it on the PS5 - especially considering the technology Unreal is demonstrating was created by Microsoft. (Both Nanite's and Lumen's core technologies come directly from Microsoft and DirectX.) It is encouraging to see the PS5 and Sony supporting these technologies, as things like this could have meant a massive difference in visual quality. I'm very much an Xbox first gamer, but like the idea that everyone gets access to the latest technologies. However, for anyone curious, yes the Xbox Series X also fully supports these technologies, and a bit more. Yes, the Xbox will support the same features. But it will only be able to stream data and assets in while traversing the world or scenes quickly at less than half the data-rate of the PS5, due to the vastly faster (more than twice as fast) NVME technology that Sony has decided to use. It’s gonna be interesting to see if the much faster data rate and GPU speed (frequency) in the PS5 will compensate for the lack of CU’s versus the Xbox GPU.1 point -

Steam Summer Sale 2020 will begin on June 25 according to leak
n_K reacted to Unplugged for a topic
Basically since the steam sales system changed a few years ago, every single sale (winter, summer, etc.) is now exactly the same - all the exact same games are on sale each time and all for the exact same 'reduced' price. Prior to that you'd get random things showing up with random amounts off which would change throughout the sale So its basically a marketing BS, and every single day of the 365-day year is special sales day anyway? Pretty much. The Steam Sale used to be highly looked forward to and Engaging from a user perspective. Sure a LOT of games were reduced to a base discount however you would have flash sales that lasted say 4 hours, Daily Specials that had more knocked off and it had you looking constantly checking the prices. Most forums tracked this information as normally if a game had a flash price it would end up as a daily special at some point and vice versa. You could get quite a few decent games for heavy discounts and many people would wait till the sales to get a lot of their games. Now it's just the base discount taken off everything for the entire duration, the the whole affair is generally "meh" with most games having a token amount knocked off and there's so much competition now it's normally the same sort reduction you get all year round from one site of another.1 point -

+Jester124 reacted to WinMacLin Guy for a topic
The whole Coronavirus baloney has been blown way out of proportion. Yes, people have got sick, and, yes, people have died. But, this isn't even close to Black Plague status as it has been made out to be. Fear is being used and people are being played. Too many people have a Sheep mindset and are looking to their government and/or science gods to save them. So for one thing, this virus disproportionately affects the elderly and those who are immunocompromised (although healthy adults can also become badly ill or even die). Another key problem with it is that the vast majority of people that get it are either asymptomatic or present mild symptoms, and so they can come into contact with those that vulnerable (without knowing) and potentially make them seriously ill. Moreover, people do not have a sheep mindset by following proper social distancing protocols (which includes avoiding certain activities in more dense areas until there is more abundant testing) so the healthcare system is not flooded until there is a viable anti-viral treatment and later a vaccine. Unless of course, you would prefer to go through what countries like Italy (and even States like New York to a degree) have gone through where the healthcare system had become so overwhelmed that doctors have had make choices on which patients to give ventilators and who to let die. Also, those of us that put our trust in the scientific method and scientific consensus, do so because it has delivered us results that have allowed us to advance as a species and increased our quality of life and longevity. It has proven far more useful than blind faith and wishful thinking.1 point
