Nice, two super evil - world's biggest economic Titans- just trying to exert dominance. Nothing unexpected - seems the pond isn't big enough for two big predatory sharks. Let's be clear on one thing - all governments and their capitalist MNCs are evil - and they all have committed similar crimes like intellectual property *theft* and unfair trade practises. The drama here isn't about right & wrong. It's about the government trying to defend its own big(paying) lobbyists' income, and cripple the other. Nothing new, and definitely not a good vs evil fight.2 points -

US government moves to block Huawei's international chip supply, China could retaliate
Depicus and one other reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
I think it's already too late, the damage is already done, China will look for alternatives to US tech and services and many other countries are likely to do the same. The only ones this is really hurting is the US. The truth is, this is a power play, the US sees China as a threat to US power in the world, the US tried to put Japan down in the 80's because they worried they were taking over, they've tried to take on the EU for decades but are not getting anywhere with them because the EU can fight back and now they see China as a threat. The truth is, the US doesn't like any power that could be a threat to the US and it doesn't matter what government style system they are, if they see you as a threat to US power around the world, they will target them and this is why the US is losing now, there are other powers that are big enough to fight back and Trump doesn't like that.2 points -

Holy ######... So many misinformed or just completely incorrect comments about the China and Huawei. This entire situation isn't about theoretical stolen technology and the US allies have been informed. This is about the 5G technology and having validated PROOF that they had technology to route all the communications to China so China could spy on everything being installed in the US and Britain. This is definitely needed considering Britain knows about the issues but is still installing their equipment anyways. validated PROOF ?? you made the proof ? you validated? china built its own 5G and faster that US. and you made proof China could spy on everything ?? good imagination. just few week the online article validated a company in Switzerland help CIA spy the world, so now there is 6 eye spynet include US spy on the world. that is validated proof.2 points -

I do all the time. Far better performance than windows. Funily enough I find microsoft games to run the absolute worst on windows e.g. forza horizon 3/4, ori and the will of the wisps. Anything I play on linux runs great, even the unoptimised joke that is golf with your friends. Far better performance? Cite an objective source? Everyone does realize? When Gabe and Valve were comparing Linux vs Windows gaming, they were running a rewritten OpenGL 4.x version against an old DX9 version, and in follow up testing, Linux wasn't even close to Windows when even running OpenGL code, let alone faster DX code. At best, your impression sounds more like your Windows installation is outdated or you have ripped out key components in an attempt to 'optimize' it. With several key performance technologies not yet implemented in Vulkan (even with Proton), it isn't about Windows vs Linux - it is about the technologies not yet being present on Linux or outside of DirectX. (This is also the reason for the delayed VR release outside of Windows.) There will always be some outlier games that perform better on Linux, as they were written to the Linux OS and GPU driver model, without taking advantage of the features of Windows NT when they were ported to Windows. (As most cross platform work, there is a ton of redundant code as the application/game does more work that is already being done automatically for the game on Windows. Thus extra calls and code for nothing.) There have been a few projects to bring pre-emptive GPU threading to Linux, only to fail due to lack of functionality in the Linux kernel. The only real solution is run a secondary OS on the GPU, which is an interface OS with GPU scheduling outside of Linux. Some of the remnants of this can be seen today in NVidia and AMD drivers, that take on the OS role to optimize GPU threading as a mini OS. This still doesn't come close to the same GPU scheduling and agnostic nature of the Windows GPU model, but it a vast improvement over leaving the GPU handling to Linux. Ironically, in games that use these newer drivers, Linux has nothing to do with GPU operations, and these GPU driver features aren't running on Linux, but instead in the driver and it own's OS model context. I hope things change and Linux will do what is needed to break the gap in features and performance, but we are not there yet. (Closer, but not there.) you will always find that linux guy that will say linux is better than windows even if it is BSOD comparison. they always think make making those claim they are smart or know what they are doing. some even prefer gamin on wine over gaming on windows itself... and i kid you not. they will claim running windows games on wine is better than running windows games on windows just because wine runs on linux1 point -

That wouldn't work because what you are asking for is for consumer back home to pay a higher price on goods they buy and with the economic hardship that is on the way with the virus, the last thing consumers want is higher prices for goods as it just makes them poorer. The truth is, businesses will always look for cheap labour, if it's not China, it will be somewhere else but it sure isn't going to be western countries with the high pay and workers rights, consumers demand goods on the cheap, that puts pressure on companies to go to low cost labours around the world, that isn't going to change unless consumers are willing to pay a lot more for most of the goods they buy, good luck asking them to do that with what is coming up because of this virus lol.1 point -
Huawei trade ban with the US extended through 2021
300z reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
Other countries but bans on different companies from time to time, there's no reason to make it sound like it's a US only thing. But in this case it 100% is US specific! No it's not... There's a long list of countries that have either banned or are considering bans of Huawei products. Do some simple research and you'll quickly realize how corrupt that company is. https://www.statista.com/chart...ve-banned-huawei-products/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.statista.com/chart...ave-banned-huawei-products/ https://www.channele2e.com/bus...-banned-in-which-countries/ Let's be honest, the only ones that have put a ban are the lackies of the US so no surprise there, so far none of the other key countries have put a ban on them so China and Huawei won't care because there are lots of other big markets to invest in. Besides, lets be honest, if the US pushes too hard on this, China will ban many US companies if not all from China, that would be gold to every rival of the US as it would give them a massive advantage over US companies because of how enticing the market is of China for most. China has a lot more to lose from this battle. There are plenty of other countries on that side of the world that would be glad to become new manufacturing hubs for Western nations. Imposing bans is only going to expediate that process. Maybe you don't realize this but China is already outsourcing out of the country to cheaper labour countries like India and Africa, as wages keep going up in China, they are less enticing when it comes to cheap labour, hence why China over the last 5 years has been pushing to move from a manufacturing base to consumer base. With the population of China and the wealth that's being generated in the country, the consumer base is far more of a threat to the US then a manufacturing base is because that gives China all the power to dictate who can and can't sell in its market, the US could be on the back foot there is China was to say, right that's it, no American business can sell in China but the rest of the world can, that would be a massive blow for the US and there would be nothing to US can do about it. The consumer base is the key, all countries and corporations want access to that and China have a massive consumer base, so it doesn't matter what the US does, there is little chance they will get many others onboard and the ones that continue to trade in China will have a massive advantage over the ones that don't and they use that advantage against the US corporations, thats why most US companies didn't want this trade war because they see how it can hit them hard and thats only the start of it.1 point -

Lol. No. They won’t. Considering that the majority of our products are somehow made there, as well as us being the largest economy and accessible customer base, they be losing a considerable amount of money/market share. It is something that really puts it into perspective though. Really shows how trade agreements and politics decimated the American manufacturing lines and how reliant we are in China, and how much they have become for us. It doesn't work that way, a lot of countries and corporations don't want to be locked out of China because they see that market being far bigger than the US long term and that matters a lot. Also, there are other factors, no country likes being told who they can and can't trade with and that is more or less what the US is trying to do, that could backfire because many will likely want to look for alternatives just out of security reasons, this benefits the rest of the world at the expense of the US. It could also explain why a lot more investment is going into high tech in the EU countries over the last few years, maybe countries and companies are edging their bets in case the US gets too hostile, at least there are alternatives, it wouldn't surprise me if parts of Asia are doing the same, this is great news for consumers but a disaster for American corporations because it could mean a lot more rivals springing up.1 point -

I'd rather have an 855/855+ over the 865. Qualcomm struck out with the 865 as it requires a mandatory separate chip for 5G and 4G modem. 865 is more power hungry (they have bigger batteries) and thus why any phone including the 865 costs more. Windows 10 version 2004 is here - here's what you need to know about it
Gornot reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
There is a lot attached to the WDDM 2.7 and DX12 features in general in this release. This is the first build to include several kernel level updates in a few years, and this also allows for these new features to work or work better. Look for things like DXR 2, AI/WinML features, lower refresh latency, along with new and existing features from the XBox One/Series X super-set of DirectX12. This adds in the newer versions of adaptive resolutions, scaling, sampling locations, and FPS stabilization. This is good for professional PC Gamers, as one thing the XBox and DX12 in general has done better is having fewer FPS dumps via the framework and the NT kernel managing the CPU and GPU cores for thermal loads better than Vulkan and the PS4 can. One specific - DXR - Ray Tracing previously was designed around a few basic rendering concepts with AI targeting zero performance loss at 60fps - which it does well on the current RT enabled games. The problem was timing as it was debuting at a time when many gamers were moving on to 120-240fps gaming, and thus 60fps DXR Ray Tracing isn't enough. DXR 2.0 targets higher fps Ray Tracing and new render variations with even bi-directional paths for better caustics and FPS targeted optimizations to use the higher refresh rates to get better RT results. I know a lot of people are not DXR/RT fans (especially with the BS from NVidia trying to con people into believing it is their technology). However, for game visual quality to move forward, we need EASIER and more accurate lighting, and we are at the point that some variation of Ray Tracing (Path/Branch/etc) is the only way forward. A good RT'd scene at 1080p can look 100x better than a 4K or 8K image - pixels do not equal higher quality when the current lighting and textures look fake/false. I wish some site would do a deep dive on WDDM 2.7 and DXR 2.0 and the other new GPU/Kernel features in 20H1. I was noticing the other day, that really cool features like multi-GPU rendering features are often not noticed or referenced by the people in the industry that follow games and graphic technologies. One developer from a major AAA game didn't even realize the game on DX12 seamlessly would use several GPUS, with Windows 10/DX12 SMP GPU rendering features that are essentially automatic.1 point -
