Wikipedia is instituting new rules to battle "toxic behavior" by volunteers
gdodson and 10 others reacted to George P for a topic
I'm not going to single out Wikipedia specifically here but why is it in a business or a specific field in general where there are more men than women it's a gender issue but in other fields where it's more women than men no one cares or brings it up? It's about time everyone got to grips with the fact that men and women, on average, like different things and fields of work. Equal opportunity is fine, but when you try to force equal equity things are only going to quickly fall apart. There's no place on earth this type of idea/model works. You can't change human nature/psychology.11 points -

lol the comments in here are like clockwork. So predictable. There has to be a point where all these people bitching about efforts to curb incorrect information and outright falsehoods, have to really start and wonder, that gee, every single service that is enforcing fact checking, limiting false edits... these efforts somehow conflict with their values.. and maybe start to wonder if those values/views are flawed? Half of you all sound like you're at stage 1 or 2 of the grieving process, you've got a long way to go till acceptance that you're conditioned and brainwashed into not believing actual, verifiable facts, as well as not accepting the efforts to combat falsehoods. Not to mention, nobody should be using Wikipedia as a primary source of information, at least not without looking at the sources list at the bottom, which no doubt contains sites that you've also been mind warped into thinking are fake. It'd almost be funny, if it weren't so pathetic. Literal bitching about efforts to limit toxic behavior, we alternate universe have we all fallen into.4 points -

I just translate these types of articles to "Some members were being ######. We no longer allow them to." The article really brings up 2 topics, harassments' which is a issue for sure and should be taken care of, I don't disagree there. The other bit, though just one line, brings up the gender imbalance. Which is a totally different subject, the two shouldn't be meshed together in my opinion. My comment was to that, there will always be a natural gender imbalance in different fields/professions due to the simple truth that men and women like, on average, different things. And it's always when the imbalance tilts to more males that it's brought up as a issue but when it's tilted more towards women it's not.2 points -

Examples? Or is it more because you can’t accept that the truth is the truth, facts are facts, and not something that can twisted and distorted by your favorite. Betting it’s the latter. Examples? Try editing any article which peddles leftist propaganda and give a counter balanced (not rightist or nationalistic) viewpoint with proper news articles. Your edit will not stay and will be reverted back to original. There are many blogs and news stories complaining about the same. Sooo.. sources, examples? Until then, you sound like a typical moaner that needs to get a clue.2 points -

And still not provide anything of interest Uhh the May 2020 Update (AKA Windows 10 Version 2004) offers a LOT of enhancements, fixes and refinements to the OS dude... might wanna read this nice changelog @ https://mspoweruser.com/window...-update-here-is-whats-new/" rel="external nofollow">https://mspoweruser.com/window...4-update-here-is-whats-new/ Still, nothing of interest, the stuff you call enhancements are not really, there is nothing there that will make using Windows 10 any different to what I am doing now and I still use Windows 10 as I used to use Windows 7 or 8. So they are changing Cortana around, oh wow, Cortana is dead and have been since it was introduced into Windows 10, just remove it and be done with it. Mouse speed to setting, oh wow how many years have that taken? I still use the control panel for a lot of the settings because the settings app is so incomplete, why did it need changing anyway? Windows search i never use and nor do a lot of people why? Because it is linked to bing which is a total and complete waste of time, I do not use Google either, I use duck duck go. oh wow, more Kamoji, just what we want as if Emojis are not bad enough. Reset Pc from the cloud, could be useful, but a lot of people will still download the ISO and keep that, saves time. I also wonder what problems this update will bring, because every single update so far have had problems.2 points -

@Rich Woods Why are you use Single Channel memory configuration for benchmarking?! On the photos you have filled the he A1 and A2 DIMM slots with the two modules, and you have leaved the B channel completely empty? Why? The 4th picture of the CPU-Z clearly shows the single channel mode... Sorry, but I think you should repeat the whole benchmark, because it is almost useless. (...and see the positive side: it is a good opportunity to compare singe/dual channel performance) Anyway, I appreciate your work.1 point -

Honestly, your gender and sexual preference should not matter. If it's becoming a problem, just use people's initials with some varying ID markers that can be checked against by the administration, rather than editors who approve articles. In no way should anyone be looked at by their race, gender, religion, sexual preference, etc. Either you're posts are quality backed by science or they're not.1 point -

I do not disagree that there are articles designed for a particular narrative. Post one. And what's the narrative you feel it's pushing? As an example ... the U.S. article for Secretary Hillary Clinton places undue emphasis on her victory of the popular vote. I am not sure how to otherwise answer your question than by mentioning this detail. And ... since he was already mentioned for some reason ... until it would seem recently the articles for Hitler placed undue emphasis on right-wing affairs despite Hitler himself indicating that the Party was neither left-wing nor right-wing.1 point -

Adobe starts serving ads in the share and 'open with' UI on Android for some users
olavinto reacted to BigBoy for a topic
Hmm... maybe I am misunderstanding this; is this not a "suggested file handler" suggestion vs. an "ad"? The example of suggesting PowerPoint when trying to open a .PPTX file - I mean that's good, right? Sure. maybe company pays to feature their photo editing software vs. someone else's but the user still gets a solid suggestion on file handler? Unless you are saying that the phone can suggest aka. offer multiple programs to open a file the user is working with, then it's an ad.1 point -

This should upset anyone. It means if you flood the network with nonsense, you can then control the conversation to reinforce the message. Left wing, right wing, pick a direction, it's open to abuse. It's also prone to abuse by companies. I'm not sure how you guys don't see that. Strange in that all I really see here is bashing Democrats. I think the comments kicked off with red hats. Either way, it's still an issue on both sides, and again companies who want to silence negative dispositions towards their actions or products. you are not wrong and i apologize. to be clear ... i do not think there is anything wrong with 'red hats'. i know I wrote 'anti-American' above ... but that is not the case for the hat itself or the wearers of the hat. that would be cruel, dishonest, and unfair. i referred to very specific hypocritical and unscrupulous individuals.1 point -

This! So many people don't budget and have ZERO idea where there money is going. Had a friend, who last October finally got around to balancing his account and noticed he was paying for an amazon prime account. Turned out when he bought something he signed up for the trial and they rolled him over into the actual prime account, and he had no idea for months. He contacted Amazon and got a refund. Speed and convince basically. If you have a set list of apps you always install on your systems, like many do, using a package manager to do so saves you a good chunk of time instead of going to each apps website, downloading the installer, then installing the app manually. With a simple batch file you can install a number of apps with one double click (if you don't wanna type run file.bat). Then walk away and do something else.1 point -

Riot Games' Valorant is out June 2, will enable automatic cheater banning systems
matthiew reacted to BoondockSaint for a topic
For anyone looking at this game, it's worth remembering that Riot Games is fully owned by the Chinese giant Tencent. This means the CCP can potentially request player data from Riot at any time, can monitor it and generally do as it pleases. That aside, their anti-cheat software (Vanguard) installs a driver at Ring 0, and is active the entire time your machine is running (not just when you play the game). Even if the ownership of Riot and potential resulting privacy issues don't worry you, a "game anti-cheat" driver running at the highest level of privilege on your system the entire time it is running should. Obviously read up on it and make up your own minds regarding this. Check some of the coverage about this on YT; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G1vKJ27-4Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dOCtaBObg41 point -

Microsoft All-in-One Media Keyboard not working on Windows 10?
goretsky reacted to PGHammer for a topic
Followup (with hard data): I found the OTHER of my two Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 6000 V.3s (the one that matches the transceiver dongle) - that and battery changes (two fresh AA batteries) and the current version of Microsoft's Mouse and Keyboard Center has it back in business. The Logitech V220 Cordless mouse (which I got the same trip as both keyboards) will work with the Mouse and Keyboard Center as well - apparently, it is a true clone of the Microsoft Laser Mouse 2000 (which the software recognizes it as) thus it WILL work with IntelliPoint Pro (not a surprise, since I used it with this same mouse As I pointed out earlier, this keyboard dates back to Windows 7, as does the mouse; however, both can be used with Windows 10 sans issues.1 point -

olavinto reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
1) This is not 'injecting' 2) These are not 'ads' It is a reasonable assumption to present a user with the Office choices if they have downloaded another Office App - as they have the subscription and can use 'Powerpoint' instead of an inferior alternative that could mangle the file. (Keep doing the click bait, and I will keep turning on my ad blocker when viewing a click bait page like this on Neowin.)1 point
