Wikipedia is instituting new rules to battle "toxic behavior" by volunteers
gdodson and 10 others reacted to George P for a topic
I'm not going to single out Wikipedia specifically here but why is it in a business or a specific field in general where there are more men than women it's a gender issue but in other fields where it's more women than men no one cares or brings it up? It's about time everyone got to grips with the fact that men and women, on average, like different things and fields of work. Equal opportunity is fine, but when you try to force equal equity things are only going to quickly fall apart. There's no place on earth this type of idea/model works. You can't change human nature/psychology.11 points -

lol the comments in here are like clockwork. So predictable. There has to be a point where all these people bitching about efforts to curb incorrect information and outright falsehoods, have to really start and wonder, that gee, every single service that is enforcing fact checking, limiting false edits... these efforts somehow conflict with their values.. and maybe start to wonder if those values/views are flawed? Half of you all sound like you're at stage 1 or 2 of the grieving process, you've got a long way to go till acceptance that you're conditioned and brainwashed into not believing actual, verifiable facts, as well as not accepting the efforts to combat falsehoods. Not to mention, nobody should be using Wikipedia as a primary source of information, at least not without looking at the sources list at the bottom, which no doubt contains sites that you've also been mind warped into thinking are fake. It'd almost be funny, if it weren't so pathetic. Literal bitching about efforts to limit toxic behavior, we alternate universe have we all fallen into.4 points -

I just translate these types of articles to "Some members were being ######. We no longer allow them to." The article really brings up 2 topics, harassments' which is a issue for sure and should be taken care of, I don't disagree there. The other bit, though just one line, brings up the gender imbalance. Which is a totally different subject, the two shouldn't be meshed together in my opinion. My comment was to that, there will always be a natural gender imbalance in different fields/professions due to the simple truth that men and women like, on average, different things. And it's always when the imbalance tilts to more males that it's brought up as a issue but when it's tilted more towards women it's not.2 points -

Microsoft is planning to bring Windows 10 21H1 builds to the Fast ring in June

And still not provide anything of interest Uhh the May 2020 Update (AKA Windows 10 Version 2004) offers a LOT of enhancements, fixes and refinements to the OS dude... might wanna read this nice changelog @ https://mspoweruser.com/window...-update-here-is-whats-new/" rel="external nofollow">https://mspoweruser.com/window...4-update-here-is-whats-new/ Still, nothing of interest, the stuff you call enhancements are not really, there is nothing there that will make using Windows 10 any different to what I am doing now and I still use Windows 10 as I used to use Windows 7 or 8. So they are changing Cortana around, oh wow, Cortana is dead and have been since it was introduced into Windows 10, just remove it and be done with it. Mouse speed to setting, oh wow how many years have that taken? I still use the control panel for a lot of the settings because the settings app is so incomplete, why did it need changing anyway? Windows search i never use and nor do a lot of people why? Because it is linked to bing which is a total and complete waste of time, I do not use Google either, I use duck duck go. oh wow, more Kamoji, just what we want as if Emojis are not bad enough. Reset Pc from the cloud, could be useful, but a lot of people will still download the ISO and keep that, saves time. I also wonder what problems this update will bring, because every single update so far have had problems.2 points -

What is good about this? Cancelling your paying subscribers..odd business decision What's Odd, is paying for Netflix for a year but never using it. What is really ODD, is someone who keeps paying for Netflix and not caring for what you are paying for that a Company has to do their job for them not like it is Netflix problem taking the money even when not using it. It just shows how people get into debt because of their carelessness of not bothering to pay their bills or pay bills for things that they're not using because they are just too lazy to cancel it. For the majority of people, the Netflix payment is made automatically. Unless a person uses PayPal to pay for Netflix, he or she is not going to get an email that a payment has been made. Plus, a lot of people don't bother checking their bank transaction history unless there's a problem.1 point -

Microsoft is planning to bring Windows 10 21H1 builds to the Fast ring in June
Jose_49 reacted to Rich Woods for a topic
Why not split Windows 10 Home and Pro in 2 versions , Home to get 2 Updates / year and Pro only one ? They are afraid of reliability issues. I'm not so sure it would make sense to only offer the spring update to Home users (it would be spring since fall is the one that gets 30 months of support for business users). Microsoft already stopped forcing feature updates on people. When 2004 is released, it's going to sit in Windows Update as optional until people either choose to install it, or their version of Windows 10 is nearing the end of support. All users have the power to choose which updates they accept already.1 point -

Twitter announces new labels for misleading COVID-19 posts
adrynalyne reacted to mudslag for a topic
Two things, first off if you don't like it, don't use twitter. Second, are you ok with people spreading false information that could potentially harm others? How do you know Twitter isn't spreading false information as well. It is censorship Twitter itself is a service. Do you have any reason to suspect they are spreading false info? If so can you provide it? We can play "what if" all day long but without something to go off of, your question is moot. After all, it's still their company, so they can make the rules that fit their business model best. You and everyone else are choosing to use it, not forced to. Why won't you answer my question asked of you? I don't think anyone wants false information out there, but there is a lot of it. My question is why would we trust Twitter's version of the information any more than someone else's? There are already plenty of stories about Twitter trying to sway readers to their point of view. It is censorship. What topic will they need to monitor next? Clearly those putting false info out there do want it out. For what ever reason you seem to be confused about twitters role, it isn’t to put out info but block info that is deemed false. If someone tweets out that X drug cures covid-19 and Twitter blocks that, that isn’t twitter putting out info. You can call that censorship all you want, it’s still twitters platform to do so. And it does not violate anyone’s First amendment. As for Twitters POV, what view is that exactly? Cause as far as I know, they don’t post random stories. So please back up your statement. Get off the backing up your statement stuff, this is a stupid internet forum not a news broadcast! All I am saying is that who says what Twitter thinks is false, is really false. Also what is the next topic that they will decide to play God with? Why does this being a forum mean you are free from supporting your claims? Cause yes this is a forum, for discussing ideas, views, debating and so forth. When you attempt to make an argument about something, you generally support that view by backing up the things are arguing about. In your case you keep failing to do so. You don't have much of an argument if you can't support it after all. As for how twitter deems what needs to be dismissed, fact checking x would be a start. Also how do you get fact checking those who would put out false info on covid-19 to playing god? Really, you're equating that to playing god? That makes no sense. Let me ask you, at what point is censorship ok? Cause it exists in one form or another in everyday life. Why should it be different on a private service that people choose to use?1 point -

They will end up releasing Windows once a year. We started receiving updates in March and August back with the Spring and Creators Updates. Because of all the breaking changes, bugs, and errors, the original strategy ended up getting pushed many months down the road. Now we're receiving an April Update in May (Actually June for the majority) and who knows what for the end of the year. This is all pointing for a yearly release cadence.1 point -

let them fix the performance first before they fix memory, these days memory is abundant but somehow they can't get it to work fast like a regular native Windows app Performance problem has been reduced/fixed since last year (for the most part) but memory consumption is still ridiculously high. I guess some of the performance issues is because of high memory consumption. this is me clicking through different tabs continuously. note memory I have more than 50% memory free. https://i.imgur.com/kilIxxw.gifv" rel="external nofollow">https://i.imgur.com/kilIxxw.gifv No, I hear you. and that's my problem too. It's far from perfect. when I said problems were reduced, I meant for basic stuff like loading chat history and video calls. Teams is turning into a platform like SharePoint and just like SharePoint it is facing an explosive growth which fears me. One of the reasons its slow for what you demonstrated in the recording is because of the choice of framework and handling extensions. They use electron (vs. native Win32 C++) for greater compatibility with other devices and web integration which is debatable, and I am guessing they have lot of work to do with extension integration. open sourcing it may accelerate the performance issues fixes? I don't know if they want to do that. Also, It seems like not enough people are complaining about it. dustojnikhummer reacted to trag3dy for a topic
I don't play Valorant but full disclosure, they added the option to have it off when not playing, it just means you have to let it reboot your PC before you do play. So if you do chose to trust their system you don't have to have it scanning constantly while doing other things. As far as I'm aware you still have to manually turn it off. It doesn't close when you close the game. At any rate, I guess this is the lengths you have to go to when your game is f2p. Such an intrusive thing that can and will break any piece of software it deems vulnerable on a whim is not for me but maybe other people are into that.1 point -
Windows NT 3.5 and original Xbox source code leaks
John K reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Even though Windows NT was never open source, seeing and gaining access to the source code has never been hard, with Universities along with enterprise and body/governments being able to access, audit, and read the source code. In the past few eyasr, Microsoft also has been publishing tons of key technologies and new/active pieces of Windows NT as open source. So, for the good stuff, an old code dump/leak is not useful in comparison. To clarify, not trying to be picky: "And while Microsoft has its own emulation on Xbox One consoles, there are just over a dozen games supported for that." There are around 40 titles available. The availability of original Xbox games on the Xbox One is limited by licensing, not technical/emulation issues. Microsoft isn't technically restricted by keys/encryption and they don't have to break device encryption or reverse engineer the OS or the hardware. - If people want more Original Xbox games to play on the Xbox One or Xbox Series, request them from both Microsoft and the original developers and publishers.1 point -

Microsoft is injecting ads to install apps into Android
olavinto reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
But if PP is not installed it should not be able to display what is pretty much an advertisement. Display an App in the 'Open With' from the Store on Android is an Android feature. Take this up with the Android team or Google if you don't like it or think these are 'ads'. (Because other companies do this.) Also, these are not 'technically' ads, because if you already installed another Office App, you already OWN/Subscribe to Office 365. This is also why it is 'reasonable' to give the user the suggestion to download and use the official Office App - since it is free to them. Prompting someone to install something they already are paying for, is NOT AN AD. EVER.1 point
