  1. BlizzCon 2020 canceled, possibly returning early next year

Don't they have phones? They can do this from home just fine.

  2. I'm glad that something like this happens and gets to the light. Not because someone gets their info stolen (Hope nobody gets it), but because it shines the crappy and awful support from OEMs which fragment the whole Android Ecosystem. Slow updates, unlatched systems... Hopefully this would make things a tad better.

So how about you tell that to the people whose parents and grandparents (and siblings and children now) are dying thanks to the 1% and their cronies pushing to reopen prematurely? 8. yeah, if you think story driven games are a waste of time, then watching them on youtube with someone elses choice is an even bigger waste. WHY would you do that??? the point of interactive story is that you influence the story. without it, might as well watch a movie. some of your comments make no sense. if you said this is not a "real" game you would be very wrong too, but i can see your point - it is not an "old school" game, by any means

  13. lolwut? Man, some people put so much energy and effort into finding things to be upset about. While I'm sure the internet will eventually figure out the difference between all the different "re____" types of product releases, likely as soon as everyone agrees to the difference between expansion packs, DLC, and upgrading shareware to a full version, and thirty seconds after the last person speaks for everyone else in the world with their own opinions. But in this case, at least, I think calling something a 'remaster' when it sounds like it uses all the same graphic assets would result in just as many (or more) whiny comments about the term being misused. This is maybe on par with the Beamdog releases of games like Baldur's Gate. And comments over in that world are just as eager to bite at their use of the word "Enhanced". If an updated launcher makes it a remaster, then lemme go 'remaster' all my PDFs by installing a newer version of Adobe Reader.

  14. too bad I'm not in the market for a new phone any time soon. As a long time Android user I just switched to an iPhone XR and have been quite happy with it; especially considering a jailbreak was just released for 13.5 last week. Quite happy to have a device that will actually get another 3 to 5 more years of support unlike most Android phones these days. /end rant

  16. I know this is mainly a Windows site, but the Steam Play (Proton) support for Linux on day one was impressive. I have had zero problems (other than EAC not working, so no *official* online multi-play -- yet). I don't care about that, I only want to be able to play with friends and not do match making, and that works fine.

Skype is perfect for quick conversations text/audio/video with co-workers. The share your desktop feature is great, especially right now with all the working from home going on. Skype is a great product. I can't see why some tech journalists think Teams will replace it and Outlook?

  19. you do know theses are Games right not movies Story driven "games" (barely in this context since it's literally like saying choose your own adventure books are games) are boring. Not for me at least, I enjoy that kind of games quite a lot. I played through Detroit: Become Human a couple of times already, I found the story compelling and enticing to the point I wished it was longer or had more ramifications. I'm glad to see it being released for PC.

  23. Winstall.app is a web-based GUI for the Windows Package Manager

It's apples to oranges, a store and a package manager aren't alike besides the ability to install apps. To an end user like me, they seem to serve the same purpose (install apps), but this package manager is less informative as it seems to lack images, reviews and descriptions from what I understand. It doesn't seem like something I'd ever use, unless it was merged with the Microsoft Store. But like many things on here, it's probably not designed for me. Still, I don't see why it wouldn't be merged with Microsoft Store to ensure a rich and clean interface for doing both the things people seem to want to do.

  24. Winstall.app is a web-based GUI for the Windows Package Manager

Speed and convince basically. If you have a set list of apps you always install on your systems, like many do, using a package manager to do so saves you a good chunk of time instead of going to each apps website, downloading the installer, then installing the app manually. With a simple batch file you can install a number of apps with one double click (if you don't wanna type run file.bat). Then walk away and do something else.

  26. Rapper 6ix9ine has $200k charity donation rejected

I think if he truly cared about the plight of the No Kid Hungry campaign he could have done it anonymously, seems to me like a failed PR stunt. I give to charity every month but I don't make a song and dance about it, and I don't share such things on Facebook.

  27. Rapper 6ix9ine has $200k charity donation rejected

I think the point of the rejection was that the rapper made a deal out of it, and the charity didn't want to be associated with a convicted child sex offender. Like I said, he could have made the donation anonymously and this wouldn't have ever reached any news channels. Didn't some charities/trusts/university refund money they were given by Epstein? Sort of the same thing, because it was known and public knowledge, not anonymous.

  28. StrandHogg 2.0 vulnerability detected in Android 9.0 and below

As long as the blowback doesn't hurt sales, Google just does not care about security. Using your reasoning ... Microsoft does not care about security until Google discovers its flaws ( e.g. CTF vulnerability going back over a decade or the Windows Defender vulnerability discovered in 2017).

  29. StrandHogg 2.0 vulnerability detected in Android 9.0 and below

It's so disappointing when PCs get years of updates regardless of price, like it's to be expected your device will get continued support for at least 4 years Maybe android's initial lower prices came at the expense of software support? But then support hasn't increased with prices as high as from apple As long as the blowback doesn't hurt sales, Google just does not care about security. This is absolute nonsense considering Google's efforts to enhance security with Android ( e.g. granular application permissions in Android Marshmallow).

  30. StrandHogg 2.0 vulnerability detected in Android 9.0 and below

That's one reason I never trust smart phones with doing anything important online as a general rule as they are less secure than a proper computer (i.e. desktop/laptop) since they don't receive patches (even ones that do, generally don't get them quickly) where as proper computer always does. I think anyone who makes a smart phone should be required to support it with security patches in a timely manner for at least a few years minimum. although around 5 years would be best.

LineageOS might support your device with the latest security updates and newer versions of Android: https://lineageos.org/" rel="external nofollow">https://lineageos.org/ Certainly worth looking in to custom rom support for your device. Thank you for this. I would much rather have official support, but ... my phone also is not listed there. What is it? XDA might have someone doing an independent project to support it.

  38. UK takes another look at Huawei's position in 5G networks

I must have missed the presumption of innocence being changed to a presumption of guilt. Did they sneak that into the Coronavirus Bill? Oh, and she isn't wanted for murder either. You're right that she's not wanted for murder, but incorrect that she's innocent. There's zero doubt that her dangerous driving killed an innocent man; she even admitted it. Not quite, she admitted hitting him and admitted being on the wrong side of the road. That's not quite the same as admitting causing death by dangerous driving. Same thing. In the UK, driving on the wrong side of the road IS dangerous driving, by default. Killing someone by doing so IS causing death by dangerous driving.

  40. Intel Core i5-10600K review: Mainstream performance sets a new bar

There was a time when components were sensitive and handling them would easily damage them. However, this has not been the case since the early 1980s. There are a lot of self appointed experts that don't understand the basic principles or the technology differences that make such damage nearly impossible. I also offer my experience of designing and building thousands of systems and components, primarily in the 1990s. I have NEVER seen damage from handling PC components (RAM/CPU/etc), even with errant electrostatic discharges. So rest easy. PS A friend sent a video (I think late last year) from JayZTwoCents on Youtube where he abandoned all common scares and myths while assembling a system. The video was funny and more accurate than even Jay might have realized. It is worth looking up for the humor and desensitizing aspect. Since we're into offering up unverifiable and therefore meaningless credentials to back up our opinions now, I offer up that I have worked in IT as a technician for about 22 years (Now End User Compute Manager), and built multiple systems for myself and others before and during that time (maybe not "thousands" like you though). However, I don't declare myself an expert. I've never had any static damage either, but I take precautions where I can. There is a reason that a lot of components come in anti-static bags still. Grounding yourself before handline electronic components with exposed contacts or pins may not be as necessary now as it used to be, but why take that chance? I've never used an actual wrist strap as they're awkward and cumbersome, but leaving the PC plugged in but switched off, and touching the case before handling components is sensible still, I think.

  45. Twitter announces new labels for misleading COVID-19 posts

Where exactly did the WHO say "no evidence of human to human transmission"? That goes against everything that I have read about COVID-19. They were saying that when it first started making the news in late Dec - Jan Source? Pretty much every newscast at the time look for yourself then it should be easy for you to back it up with a few news clips. When you make claims, it’s on you to back it up. Why? I got stuff to do. Look yourself if you are so worried. Just not enough stuff to keep you coming back to reply though. If you lack the ability to support your own argument, then clearly your argument isn’t that strong to begin with.

  48. Rapper 6ix9ine has $200k charity donation rejected

Yeah it is not clear at this point, but can't you agree with me there are channels to donate anonymously? I see these on gofundme pages all the time for stuff that makes the news, a larger amount donated to the cause as "anonymous" so there is no way to know if Bill Gates did it, or some convicted serial rapist if it is anonymous 😛 Clearly this was not the case in this instance. People made a huge deal about Epstein's monetary donations to the point people resigned from those places which had received the money and (initially) decided to keep it (I think it was some research thinktank thing).

  49. Rapper 6ix9ine has $200k charity donation rejected

yeah, I can understand that but there has to have been a better way the charity could have handled the situation too rather than flat out rejecting the large sum of money that could have significantly helped the cause. Besides flaunting that he donated it's not like he was asking for anything in return. That's just my opinion at least. As long as it's a true donation asking for nothing in return then it should be accepted no matter the party it came from. edit: and the article isn't fully clear on this point. did he make a deal out of the situation before or after the donation was rejected?
