  1. The news title should instead be 'Donald Trump signs an executive order aiming to censor social media'. Placing a disclaimer on a message does not constitute censorship.

  2. Curbing social media “censorship” (lol) but then said he’d shut down Twitter if he could. this guy is certified bonkers. I feel so sorry for the remaining good people in the US with having to put up with him and your broken political system. At least the rest of us can see what a train wreck the US has become and can navigate our way around a similar fate in future.

  3. He doesn't even understand what free speech is ... free speech covers government and public space only. I think some states extended it to privately owned space open to public but it's the exception more than the rule and it's within the state only.

  4. But clearly social media sites like Facebook have too much power/political influence. that's why it's a problem and things need to be more neutral. Fact checking misinformation seems to be a good neutral move.

  5. Free speech upheld by more government involvement. Right. Uh, huh. Sure. Have the Trumpets seen the light yet about how their messiah isn’t what he claimed to be? Surely this makes it obvious. Nah, probably not.

  8. More like.... social media websites: free speech if your on the left, but if your on the right we will just claim it's hate speech (or some other BS) when it's really censorship of views we don't like (which is usually comments telling the truth because if they are not afraid of opposing views they would not have to censor them. but since the truth generally does not favor the left they have to resort to shady tactics to 'win'). You seem to ignore the key facts here, Twitter didn't censor Trump's tweets. You also seem to want to ignore that it's Trump talking about censoring others, yet you want to project that view on to others (twitter in this case).

  9. But clearly no where near Biden level (it's going to be priceless watching Trump stream-roll Biden in the debates). Trump 2020 for the sake of the country as if the godless left gets into power they will destroy the country as they want things to return to pre-Trump era (i.e. back to their usual corruption and the hell with the common person). many in power on the left are inline with this verse from the Bible... "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter." - Isaiah 5 : 20 because on the left what was once good is now bad and what was once bad is now good. they basically favor disorder over order. Please provide examples of how Biden is more of a child than Trump. Im unaware of examples of Biden running away from female reporters who ask basic questions or making fun of and calling people names almost daily or whine about being fact checked and suggest taking away Constitutional Rights. So if you have examples of Biden being worse than what Trump has done, Id love to see them. As for your biblical nonsense, not sure what that has anything to do with the current topic.

  12. Like others have said, marking a tweet as not factual or not being fact checked is not censorship and has zero to do with free speech. Trump can't and isn't going to do anything about social media anyways. This is a nice PR stunt to get his base riled up because he knows very well that as much as they like using social media they at the same time want to hate on it and call it out as being some leftist controlled syndicate. What ever happened to not using something you don't like? If the far right hates twitter, how about they band together and make their own version of twitter? If they feel that they're being somehow unfairly censored and all that, the internet is open, make your own platform. Except in this case, as in others, and on both sides, these are all the vocal minority who can scream the loudest online. I'd like to believe that the vast majority, regardless of country, are rational people.

  15. But clearly social media sites like Facebook have too much power/political influence. that's why it's a problem and things need to be more neutral. While I agree that social media has too much influence, marking a post as not fact checked, or as misinformation after they do a fact check on it is hardly a problem and doesn't mess with your free speech right in the least.

  16. Trump accepted the terms of a -private- company the moment he created his Twitter account. According to these terms, they can shut him down, or fact check his tweets. He conveniently forgot he does this all the time with his businesses. But emperor-wannabe Trump doesn't like to be told 'no' in any way... How many people have been fired already, because they didn't like his policies? I hope not, but if it's going to be four more years of Trump, we'll end up with a completely different US, let alone world..... Sad....

Big gov solutions doesn't have to mean attacking the First Amendment. Cause when Trump says nonsense like, "I think we shut it down, as far as I'm concerned, but I'd have to go through a legal process," the president told reporters. "If it were able to be legally shut down, I would do it", it doesn't look good for the head of gov to even suggest talking about squashing First Amendment Rights. Nothing says I support the Constitution more than wanting to kill off other's Constitutional Rights.

  23. Let's be real. This isn't about free speech. Conservatives are mad and claiming censorship cause their entire belief system is based on lies and these platforms are simply fact checking. They don't like facts. The claims that conservatives are targeted is proven false, and frankly they do lie and spread hate/threats of violence more than any other group. They have Fox news for uncensored lies and BS, and if they really want to they could create their own platform. Jordan Peterson is working on a red pill one already.

  26. But clearly social media sites like Facebook have too much power/political influence. that's why it's a problem and things need to be more neutral. No they don't. It's a privately owned platform and they have the right and should for legal reasons filter/flag the content posted on their web site by users. LaP, you are totally right. They are a private company that can do whatever they want with their service, but today Twitter enjoys liability protections because they are supposedly just offering a platform. Since the content is from the users, they argue that they should not be held responsible for what is posted on their service. The opposing argument is that as soon as Twitter starts stepping in and censoring, they are no longer just a platform. It no longer matters if the content originally came from the users, as soon as Twitter censors and/or edits the content it becomes theirs and they should be held liable for the content. The debate then becomes whether or not adding a misinformation banner at the bottom of a tweet should be considered censorship and/or modification of the content itself. Personally I don't think it is necessarily a problem to add these banners, as long as Twitter applies the same rules to all posts, and those rules are well defined and freely available to be viewed by all users. fact checking isn't censorship.... Trump is to blame for all of this. He made the "fake news" movement what it is. Had this happened to a rival, he would have been perfectly fine with it. The issue Trump has with it only stems from it happening to him.

I think you may need to get a mental health checkup. Go outside for a walk, stop binging on Fox news. You say that all dems want is to bring back chaos and corruption that was pre-trump, but completely ignore the fact that even with the release of classified documents and full insight to the past administrations, only Nixon would have anywhere near the corruption of the current administration and he still showed more respect than anything the current administration has shown. And caring for the people?!? Tell or show me one thing that he personally has done or pushed that has be in the interest of all people and not just his 33% of supporters. Out of everything, I can find 1 thing, and that's the ban on bump-stocks. Returning to even the most corrupt pre-Trump government would be a massive step up from where we are now. To go from a leader in the world to a laughing stock, yeah... America's really great again.

As the head of gov, he is the last person to even suggest such a thing as that does go against the First.

Not being allowed to post counter-claims without being attacked by the government (that's actually what happened here, the president of USA attacked a media company for simply posting something opposing his claims, just like what is most common in authoritarian regimes), is that called free speech?

While I agree that social media has too much influence, marking a post as not fact checked, or as misinformation after they do a fact check on it is hardly a problem and doesn't mess with your free speech right in the least. If anything the fact checking done and posted by Twitter is free speech. Free speech does not mean that your statements cannot be opposed by others, in fact it means that anyone can say you're wrong, something Trump seems to not understand. He is claiming to do this for free speech, but it's kinda odd to champion free speech by censoring others.

  44. Developer claims that Windows Package Manager copied AppGet

Based on the timeline the developer was still interviewing for this potential job in December 2019. They also indicated they attempted to contact human resources at Microsoft in February 2020. So we are left to believe that Microsoft wrote WinGet in less than 3 months during a pandemic? You have to understand that Microsoft had no idea their Build conference would be virtually back in December 2019. They were already working on their presentations that would happen for build 2020. People can spend thousands of dollars, in order to travel to Build conferences, they are not going to plan to present something that isn't even being internally tested within Microsoft. I suspect there is more to this story, I believe he was contacted by Microsoft, and they might have thought about acquiring AppGet but ultimately decided against it. As others have pointed out OneGet, was released all the way back in 2015, with the release of `Windows 10 version 1507`. I am not entirely sure the reason Microsoft, would have even entertained the idea of acquiring AppGet, there wasn't anything exactly amazing about it. The first commit to GitHub for AppGet was back in October 2014. We know that OneGet was released in July 2015, since the Insider Preview program for Windows 10 started in 2014, OneGet was likely being developed in the same time frame. According to their other blog post, AppGet itself is an attempt to fix Chocolatey, which is what OneGet was designed to work with. I simply see this as an idication that Microsoft, decided that trying to design another Windows feature around a third-party like Chocolatey or AppGet wouldn't be in their best interest, and decided to take the best ideas from both. Did I mention the developer stopped working on AppGet for nearly 4 years? They also mentioned that AppGet would be a package repository for OneGet back in 2018.

The Democrats would have burnt Twitter down it it happened to them. Next thing Twitter will be doing is trying to restrict tweeting to tweets they feel could be false or misleading. Hello, communism!
