  1. Files UWP is a new modern file explorer app for Windows 10

Funny you say that, I noticed that at work. We had an application logging things and needed to launch multiple instances of it. Each instanced used about 500MB of RAM! It wasn't even a complex application, we needed to run 20 or so instances on an old test machine with 4GB of RAM and the C# developer said 'buy more RAM'... Created my own small logger in C++ with Qt, 4MB RAM usage per instance. C shite as I call it can ###### right off, horrible language. Correction, you were working with a ###### developer. There is no reason C# should be that heavy, or much heavier than native C++ due to how the shared framework works. C# can often be smaller and use significantly less RAM than the same code in C++. Object design is something many developers are ###### at, and if they are ###### at object design, using and object model in a programming language will also be ######. Sadly OO development tools and languages get blamed for their incompetence.

  4. It. Shouldn't. Have. Happened. In. The. First. Place. Did you forget what this protesting is all about? Let me remind you, unwarrented police brutality.

  5. Seeing as you seem to be missing the most basic of human emotions; empathy, I'll explain what the right thing to do was. Instead of just calling for a medic and walking away without even looking back to see if one was responding (he didn't), he should have immediately knelt to attend to the civilian HIMSELF, whilst still calling for a medic. All cops are trained with basic first aid and he should have been rendering some whilst waiting for a proper medic.

  8. Because it's the right thing to do as a cop. What if the medics were called away for some other reason and didn't get to this guy? Bleeding from the ear could be a critical injury. I find interesting that people are trying to defend his actions and blame the victim. Nope. Was it right of the cop to shove the man for no reason? The question I posed was to put things into perspective because people today are desensitized when other people are hurt and that's not a good thing.

Really, cause I think you don't have a clue what you are talking about. (Because, unless they are using unrelease libraries, there is no such thing as a C++ UWP App, which I'm sure you know, right?) Surprise people with your insight, present a few code examples demonstrating why it is bad.

Hah, this is probably the most ill informed nonsense I've read here in a while. Doubly so considering UWP C# apps are actually precompiled into native code using .NET Native and are not actually running on a .NET interpreter, and have start up times that rival native C++ XAML apps.

  19. Again, I'm not complaining about them calling the medic. I'm pointing out the fact the cop could careless the damage he did by violently knocking the guy down. IMHO that is wrong. How is it an uncommon situation? Man walks up to a cop a few seconds later gets knocked on his ass, hard for no reason. I agree common sense varies between people but here we are with you arguing with me that my common sense is wrong and yours is right. From a different angle, How is pointing out the facts and asking a question is moving the "goalpost" and resorting to splitting hairs? Where did I make up motivations? Did the cop stop to see if the guy he knocked down is ok or not? Did one cop stop another cop from assisting or not? All I'm pointing out is (the lack of) human decency. If someone fell down next to you, would continue to walk away, or stop and see if that person is ok?
    2 points
  20. I'm not denouncing the call for the medic. In fact that the cop knocked down the guy so hard (that he started bleeding from the ear) a call for a medic was done and they didn't even taking a moment to assist the person that was knocked down. There were plenty of cops to cover just one cop till the medic arrived.

  22. Eh. I don't care if the cop who shoved him did CPR, a craniectomy and the National Guard erected an EMEDS for him ... he still shouldn't have been shoved to the ground. Seems people are wanting to give the cops a cookie for calling for a medic after they needlessly injured him.
    2 points
  23. No offense but you are being an armchair expert as well. Neither of us know exactly what was going through the cops mind after forcibly knocking him down and him calling the medic and walking away. What's being argued is the insensitiveness of the cop and in the context of unnecessary police brutality along with the police report cover-up.

  24. If that were the case, then America would still be a British colony as most of America's population supported the British government back when the War of Independence got going. It was only a small minority of protesters that kicked the whole thing off. Protesting is vital in a free society. Violent protests, whilst deeply unpleasant, are sometimes the ONLY way to force needed change; especially when the government stops listening to its people.

  27. A peaceful protest never warrants the use of force. Even if you don't agree with the message, you still have the right to counter-protest. My main question is why you think the only correct way to protest is by voting? Something that we have seen can be manipulated by unfair and unjust laws that target minorities, to redistricting areas to ensure whichever party wins? Voting is still a good way to let you voice be heard, but it is in no way the only or even the best in most situations. Even if we got rid of the electoral collage in the general election and went solely with the majority vote, this still gives voice to the majority and leaves out the minority opinions. While these are usually unpopular, protesting can make up for lack of knowledge that may otherwise be overlooked. One more question, did you support the protests to reopen most states by people brandishing guns and some using the threats of violence?

  35. Apple might announce its plans for ARM MacBooks at WWDC

I think it will be all or nothing switch. I doubt that. I don't think they can afford to switch their professional lineup. iMac Pro, MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro, those will stay x86 for a while now. ARM just is not powerful enough. If Apple wants more performance at lower power for apps like Final Cut and After Effects, they should start selling Ryzen Macbooks. Now for people who buy MacBooks to look expensive and to browse twitter, for those a 12inch MacBook with ARM will be enough.

  41. Is a wired connection 'more' secure then a wireless?

And what was this book? And "hack" in what context? While you might just be able to plug into a switch on a home network... This would not be the case on any enterprise network.. There would be nac/nap in place - and best practice is to disable any port that is not actively being used. But you can not just unplug users pc and plug in your hacking machine and expect to be on the same vlan that user machine was on because needing to auth in some manner to get on specific vlan. That sort of statement as a blanket statement doesn't make a lot of sense, but with specific context it may or may not be true, etc. Lets not forget physical access, vs sitting out in the parking lot in your car with the possibility to access the wireless network. With a wired network, atleast in an enterprise you would have to go through some access control just to get to a wire in the first place. We have to finger print to get into the office, and normal users do not have access to any of the wiring closets, etc. Lets then look at ok hey, I plugged into the wire.. Even if could get access.. The wire I plugged into would only be on the specific vlan that either authed to with creds, or that port is assigned too.. And even then would only see traffic that was broadcast, you don't see "all" traffic, etc.. With wireless if using pairwise pmk, all devices would be using their own encryption keys and even if you could sniff the wireless traffic each clients encryption would be different, other than the group key traffic (broadcast and multicast).. So again in what context? With wireless I could throw up AP that looks like the company AP and if security features are not in place all clients would send all their traffic through my device, etc. Without gaining any physical access to the premises. Without any context of this this so called "hack" being done - its like most IT related stuff in movies/books - its not very accurate hehehe.. Only recent show that have seen that did a decent job/attempt at realistic IT in general was mr robot..

  43. Apple might announce its plans for ARM MacBooks at WWDC

I don't see it being much different than the PowerPC to x86 transition. Apple did a good job with that cross compatibility emulation. If they can do that again then it will be a seamless transition that end users will hardly notice. I have a feeling Microsoft will eventually offer Windows on ARM ISOs just like the x86/x64 flavor; it's just a matter of time. So I doubt Bootcamp support will be going anywhere either. Because x86 was faster than PowerPC. ARM is not

  45. Apple might announce its plans for ARM MacBooks at WWDC

Seems a no-brainer for Apple, especially for the base MacBook range. All their focus seems to be on iOS and ARM processors at the moment. Having MacBooks able to run iOS apps natively (locking users into the iOS App Store) makes sense for their business model. Dropping 32 bit support and ignoring Vulkan API on MacOS is already limiting the number of cross-platform apps available (e.g. Epic Store has very few Mac games and a lot of new games on Steam are still 32 bit). A lot of these games are available on iOS. Microsoft and Adobe already have products for iOS. MacOS is dying a slow painful death but switching to ARM could give it new life.

  46. She sure talked a lot without saying much....this struck me as she doesn't really understand "Defund the Police" ... "I would like to know that if I'm having trouble, that I can call on the public servants and the police and that they will protect me and my family. So I just don't think that's a good idea." The "movement" isn't to remove the police force ... it is to invest more into the community (education, housing, mental health...services that shouldn't require a man/woman with a gun, etc) and to shrink the roles of the police...so they can focus on crimes and reduce the demands placed on the police. You wouldn't know this by watching the likes of Tucker Carlson or Sean Hannity. They want you to believe that "Defund the Police" means to abolish the police...which isn't the case. Would such a thing work? No idea. Can we do better than what we have now...I would hope so. Heartless, immature cruel brat. I don't really hate many people...but this dude....😡

  48. The Windows 10 May 2020 Update apparently breaks Intel Optane Memory

what about driver issue? ah right it must be always only M$ fault, you cannot even write Microsoft, you feel so cool now, right I understand that all this seems to be driver issues causing the update to break, and I wish manufactures would maintain drivers a little longer.. but why is it this update causing the drivers to break? According to Device Manager, my computer has been using a display driver dated 23/03/2016, and I've only clean installed this machine with the first preview release of Windows 10. So that means by my calculations this exact same driver has been present on my computer for a total of SEVEN major Windows 10 updates (1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909) without issue. Yet with 2004, it fell apart. So why is this driver at fault when it comes to Windows 2004? 1. I am shocked, you didn't have problems with your display drivers, earlier than with 2004. There is a known issue with 2004 dealing with variable refresh rates but that only affects DX9 applications. 2. 2004 introduces major WDDM updates with 2004. 3. WDDM was updated several times in the last 2 years. 4. I don't actually believe you were able to run a display driver from 2016 when you were running 1909.

  49. The Windows 10 May 2020 Update apparently breaks Intel Optane Memory

You know what else "isn't what it used to be"? Hardware. There is -so- much more of it than 15 years ago. Thousands of motherboards relased over the last decade.... dozens of new CPUs every year.... a whole bunch of different GPU chipsets, multiplied by many vendors selling several variants of each chipset.... a much wider variety of complex connectivity standards than ever before.... many, many combinations of RAM sizes, speeds, and latency timings. On and on and on. And that's before we get to quality variances with individual pieces of hardware. Maybe a particular component on a particular entry-level motherboard doesn't do very well with a certain amount of PSU ripple, and will cause some kind of failure once every month or so, and only in areas where the user's original source of power isn't clean. Do you see? It is basically impossible to test everything now. Sorry but that is a poor excuse, I am old enough to remember in the 90's being even more to choose from, Cyrix CPUs were also a mainstream thing and GPUs didn't even have the standard like the mainly two choices you see today between AMD and Nvidia, and their respective lines of GPUs also are based off one same-gen of tech (Pascal, Turing etc). 68k is correct and it isn't limited to Microsoft, companies keep putting beta products in the hands of consumers who have to suffer throughn the first gen of hardware and software releases due to a lack of proper QA.
