  1. Zoom will offer end-to-end encryption to all users

This is now worn thin. First they said they were encrypted. Then it was proven they were not. Then they said they would add encryption. But they didn't. Then they bought a company that does encryption to bulk up their efforts. Then they say they will do E2EE for paying customers. Then they bow down to Chinese censorship. Now E2EE is free for all?! Totally untrustworthy and rash sense of business. No thanks.

  4. Zoom will offer end-to-end encryption to all users

LOL. Where is tvcat defending them, telling us that we just want something for nothing? It was stupid to offer pay e2e encryption when it’s the clients that are decrypting everything... As an aside, I’ve a feeling this company is just telling everyone what they want to hear and nothing much else.

  10. Can't wait to be able to play this. This game/expansion alone has convinced me to get a PS5. Here's hoping there will be good trade in deals for the PS4 when the PS5 is released; would like to drop the price as much as I can. Will be going for the digital edition as well since I don't really buy physical game copies anymore.

  11. Windows 10 version 2004's new feature may fix Chrome's high RAM usage

I think it was more down to the fact that MS changed the browser and that forced them to make optimisation changes to the OS No, that's not it at all. The "segment heap" capability has been in Windows 10 since the original release in 2015. It has always been the default for Windows 10 store apps. Yes, that includes the original Edge, right back to day 1. But it is not the default for Win32 apps because of backwards compatibility concerns. There's a whole section on this in Mark Russinovich's Windows Internals 7 book. All Microsoft is really doing here is restoring the use of the segment heap in Edge. Chrome could've made this change years ago if they'd known about it.... Then why does this require Version 2004 and later in order for it to work? Note: Google needs the latest SDK in order to make the changes to Chrome, though at the moment Google does not have access to this SDK, so therefore have not been able to at any point in the past had the opportunity to change Chrome to use this feature. It doesn't. Chrome's dev team actually got segment heap working last summer/fall on Windows 10 1809, which you can read about here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=982452 and here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/ch...um/issues/detail?id=1014701 What changed in 20H1 is that Microsoft added in the ability to opt into the (otherwise optional) segment heap capability by defining it in the application manifest XML file, that sits alongside the executable. Before 20H1, you had to set a flag in the executable itself, which would probably make the executable file incompatible with any version of Windows prior to 20H1. Alternatively you can set a flag in the registry.... and the problem with that is that it requires Administrator privileges to write that registry key, and it requires defining the full path. Chrome's exe path actually changes with every update, so the updater would require elevation to admin for every update. As I'm sure you know, Chrome (and its updater) are designed to not require admin privileges whatsoever, so that's a non-starter. This new flag in the application manifest gets around both these problems.... Windows versions prior to 20H1 will just ignore the XML element that it doesn't understand, and run Chrome/Edge with the standard NT heap algorithm. Saying that the SDK is required is a mis-statement. The 20H1 SDK documents this new manifest XML setting and provides an update to the XML schema for the manifest. Using an SDK prior to 19041 will cause build warnings that basically say "Hey, I don't know about that XML element". The build will succeed, but the Chrome team doesn't want any spurious warnings when building Chrome. That is discussed here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/ch...um/issues/detail?id=1089996 Now you know. Next time, read the article and associated links before firing up the complaint machine.

  12. UK to abandon contact tracing app for decentralised model

Apps take a long time to write especially if you're just starting out. One would assume that even the UK government know they have to employ professional app developers who already know what they're doing. That's not a given though, with this lot.

  20. Oh no, Atlantico, they are adding many useful features to it. Didn't you read the post above? They are small features, granted, but when you have an OS that has been out for this many years, adding smaller incremental updates and features is what we expect and want. I am assuming you don't work at Microsoft on the Windows team, so I don't think you can intelligently speak to what they're doing on the OS. Right, so because you "expect and want" nothing, then that means I'm wrong. Bizarre. When you state it as fact? Correct, you are wrong. It isn’t meaningful to you. Odd you don’t understand such a simple concept. No, I am in fact very much correct. Windows 10 is in maintenance mode. Some users don't expect any new features of note, so it's odd that you don't understand such a simple concept and choose to post a knee-jerk reaction comment instead. It's like you are emotionally invested. 🤣🤣🤣

  21. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone expansion-like experience

Physical copies have resell value, digital does not. I don't know if convenience is worth not being able to resell your games for some money once you finish them. I usually never go back to it once I have finished playing through a game. I long decided that the $5 I can receive for a game does not even cost the time (and gas) it takes to drive to the store. I am being generous with saying $5 most of the time the value of a game is much lower.

That is, in fact, the OTHER reason I prefer HP (either inkjet or laser); the JetDirect print service for their inkjet AND laser printers. Available via HP.com for every OS except Linux and Solaris - but included with most Linux distributions and with both Solaris distributions - which makes them multi-OS ready from the jump - in addition to wearing like steel). JetDirect is even available for Android - so even phones and tablets have no excuses.

  36. Germany launches coronavirus contact tracing app

That's why Germany used a decentralized system so there is no data to be used for other purposes. Each phone generates random identifies which it sends out and which change regularely and locally logs all identifiers it receives. Only the random identifiers of infected people are transmitted to a server and those identifiers can not be traced back to the person and there is no location data. I don't know how other apps work, but I'm quite positive about the approach to privacy here in Germany.

  37. That's the point of these optional 'preview' updates, to test before they go out the following month to everyone. Isn't that what the insider rings are for? Looks to me like Microsoft have now mixed the preview ring into the production ring. This will cause more confusion and will cause a lot more bugs/glitches into production systems.

  38. You should pay more attention to it. Your apathy helped get the human skid mark that is Trump elected. That's what happens when you don't pay attention. Later this year Americans will get to decide if these past four years are what America stands for. Anything less than a complete rout of Trump and his enablers will show the world that America chooses a dictator and his crime family over Democracy and freedom. Well, good thing he will win this year. Because who else is there? Sleepy Joe? Commie Sanders? You can have a guy that does not care what others think about him, you can have a guy who has no idea what is going on or you can have a guy who wants to make full socialism and communism work (spoiler, it can not work) Oh wow, parroting Trump's pathetic name calling? I now understand where you come from and don't see much point in acknowledging you further.

  45. Because Chrome OS don't normally crash, have the problems that Windows do and some people just like the way chrome works. Shame it is only for enterprise, saying that if people that uses Chrome wants to use Office or part of it they can do it online. Chrome OS is not for me, too much tied to the cloud, but I can understand why people go for it. True, when the OS can do 1% of things Windows can, there's not much that can crash.

  46. I think our democracy over here is just too easily manipulated. The core idea is fine, but the extra rules and processes thrown around it by those who it would serve are the problem. May many elections in how many years, on what is meant to be a 4-year cycle - it became a bad joke. When you get more people voting for the person that loses than for the person who won, then there is a problem and that is the problem with the U.K as well with our out of date First past the post system. US has almost 5 times the population as the UK. Electoral College makes sense. If it did not exist, huge cities could dictate how the entire country is run. Why should a bunch of brainwashed students from California that never saw a real cow in their lives have more power than farmers in Texas or Iowa?

  49. Note: There is a TON of new features in the kernel and this includes both CPU and GPU technologies enabled by these changes. These features may only have a single toggle like (lower latency GPU) - but these changes enable a huge realm of new features and increases system performance significantly. Remember, the 20H1 (2004) started testing early, as it went back to the Azure team (Cutler who wrote the NT kernel) - with the new Azure and more advanced kernel features enabled early on, requiring the longer period of testing. As for Linux people - WSL2 is Linux - Install your distro of choice and/or display manager of choice, and use a Linux Desktop as your Windows Shell, as you can seamlessly launch Windows software from inside Linux, etc. WSL2 is 100% binary compatible. (Microsoft is even looking to add GPU and Vulkan level support to WSL2, and it already has full accelerated OpenGL via X11.) The 'cool' thing about this, is you can play and use Linux, and have zero drivers issues, as NT and Windows huge/vast drivers provide the device integration and stability that still isn't easy/seamless in Linux. With Windows 10 2004 and WSL2, it now is.
