  1. Apple will close some U.S. stores after a spike in COVID-19 cases

Things were opened in spite of the statistics. Reopen based on trials and scientific models, rather than arbitrary bs. Apple like others are putting greed ahead of safety. Notice the huge spikes are in anti-mask populations that pushed to reopen early.(aka Trump Red States)

  5. Microsoft is pushing out its new Edge browser to Windows 7 and 8.1

The third paragraph is especially revealing. Maybe, just maybe, some of the more mature and intelligent employees at MS are finally (!) realizing that WIndows-10 isn't nearly the home run they were led to believe. WIndows-7 is very alive and well, albeit somewhat old. However, its reliability and ease of use more than fulfill many users' needs.

Low pricing, that's more like OP. Good move if true, that's enough hardware for the majority of phone buyers out there.

  9. Successor to Windows 10?

At some point they'll drop the number and it'll just be 'Windows' and whatever the newest version is at the time. Much like Ubuntu does. I think 10X is going to be the future of Windows in the long run though, the new shell/UX, containers for everything for more security and stability, and so on. We'll see what the marketing guys think up, but I'm pretty sure 10 is the last branded version we're going to get.

  10. Successor to Windows 10?

MS designed Windows 10 as a SaaS. They said that they were going away with big, major releases, and will switch to small to medium releases with incremental updates. They even called it "the last version of Windows", and that Windows 10 will continuously improve over time. Windows 10X is a new version of Windows 10 developed towards the new dual-screen hardware, but is currently put on-hold by MS due to the COVID-19 situation. Due to this, they said that they'll be incorporating these exciting big new changes to future updates of Windows 10. We'll start to see those changes in 21H1. I honestly doubt that we will see a "Windows 11" or such in the future, unless MS change their current OS strategy. Windows 10 will still and always be MS latest OS.

The ban that wasn't. For two years, telegram.com was banned in Russia, but anyone could download the app from the Play Store and use it without any restrictions.

  13. In all honesty, I don't care or mind. I'd rather wait additional months if they feel they need that to achieve desired levels of quality. Sure waiting months to play most anticipated game is annoying, but nowhere near as annoying as waiting devs for months to fix issues you're experiencing while already playing the game. So, yeah, take your time CDPR. Sometimes few months of extra work can separate ultimate experience from just "good".

  15. Refreshing to see a publisher do this. If it was any of the big 3, the game would have been out a month ago, with a day one patch bigger than the game itself.

  16. I am in need of a new printer, please suggest some!

Honestly, stick with brother laser printers if you want workhorses with solid drivers for just about any OS. I’ve had them for years and made a huge mistake of switching last time. Never again.

  17. Zoom will offer end-to-end encryption to all users

LOL. Where is tvcat defending them, telling us that we just want something for nothing? It was stupid to offer pay e2e encryption when it’s the clients that are decrypting everything... As an aside, I’ve a feeling this company is just telling everyone what they want to hear and nothing much else.

Been giving Chromium Edge a run these past few days and am rather impressed. It makes me wonder why Microsoft persevered so long with the disappointing original Edge.

  19. LOL. So cases will spike your right about that, but a spike from 1 new case per day to 12 new cases is much more reasonable than lets say....3,822 new cases in Florida....

  20. Microsoft is pushing out its new Edge browser to Windows 7 and 8.1

Not only that but some OEM PCs can't even get W10. My mother AIO from Dell couldn't run W8 or 10 without going insane. Windows 8 OEM machines have not been sold in almost a decade. Sounds like low quality OEM hardware is to blame

  22. Microsoft is pushing out its new Edge browser to Windows 7 and 8.1

It's not bad, I still prefer Firefox but I'm glad they are including a nice browser now. Also it's probably just me being weird but I hate the phrase "pushing out" for software, like they are giving birth to it or something. Seems to mostly be a Neowin thing, what happened to just using the word released?
    1 point
  23. Not sure I completely follow the logic. As things reopen, cases will spike. That's just the way it is. So it makes more sense to me for them to either stay closed, or open up and own it...

  34. Google removed over 70 malicious Chrome add-ons from its web store

Wow, this is a surprise. /s It is nice to see Google actually do something, but this is little more than servicing their PR, as there are several extensions on our own tiny internal list that Google won't address. Same reason to not trust the Extension Store is the same reason not to trust Apps from the Play Store. Google does nothing to check security or Server side App changes updates, and this is just the tip of the iceberg of a horrifically bad security model.

  37. Physical copies have resell value, digital does not. I don't know if convenience is worth not being able to resell your games for some money once you finish them. I usually never go back to it once I have finished playing through a game. I long decided that the $5 I can receive for a game does not even cost the time (and gas) it takes to drive to the store. I am being generous with saying $5 most of the time the value of a game is much lower. I guarantee you that if you buy The Last of Us 2 (coming out tomorrow) and finish it in 2-3 weeks, you'll probably be able to sell for at least 80% of its value on Craigslist.

Here's hoping there will be good trade in deals for the PS4 when the PS5 is released; would like to drop the price as much as I can. Will be going for the digital edition as well since I don't really buy physical game copies anymore.

  44. because you would be on an almost perpetual major version upgrade if you just went to the next one wouldn't you? Better to upgrade once and not need to do a major upgrade for two years than 6 month? It comes down to the reason people delay installing updates, then, doesn't it? If the reason is they don't want to install something too new and risky that could cause issues, they'd probably be okay installing an update slightly more often to a version significantly more stable. If the reason is they just don't like installing updates then yeah, the less often the better, but if that brand-spanking-new release has problems that impact them, they'll just become grouchy old internet commenters and hate updates even more. One reason feels a little more childish and pointless than the other. Haha oh Joshie. Do you think most people even are aware or WANT their computers to update? People dread the "Windows is now updating, do not shut off your computer" precisely because it became so frequent and on major releases, took FOOOREEEVVVEEER!! Usually when you had just got home and needed to submit that assignment/job application/paper/email that had that deadline in less than an hour. 2-2.5 years for an update isn't bad in that case. It works for them, and if they want to go to the next oldest (yet alone even know that there is a "next oldest"), they will probably seek out that release instead because they are classic nerds and know how. For everything else, there's this.

  49. Lenovo Chromebook Duet review: A Surface Go killer

A well-written and complete article. I do disagree with a few of your positive comments. I received my duet a few days ago and I am really really disappointed. I would submit that the tablet experience is also not great. The performance and the touch experience is not terrible it's just not good either. I was never so happy to get back to using my phone because of the better experience. I could go on. As mentioned in the article, the screen is very nice, though, I find it awkward to hold as a tablet. The battery life is good, the sound is okay and the keyboard is a bit cramped but passable for short use. The problem is it's not especially great at anything, not a great tablet and not a great Chromebook. It's an adequate device and if that's what you can get by with, maybe you'll be happy, I wasn't. $300 is still $300 and could be put towards a Chromebook that does have a great experience at something. That's what I'm going to do. That's just my opinion and experience.
