Sorry, Disney+ is not available in your region. F**k you Disney. This is the message I get when I wanted to check their pricing. Whine just one god damn time about piracy and I'm gonna smack you right in the face. And I'm not even living in some African or some obscure eastern Asian country. I'm living in a freaking center of Europe. I get furious just the same every time I see Spotify. Coz they show me the exact same dumb message. I guess my € just aren't good enough compared to I don't know, German € or French €. Well, piracy it is then.3 points -

Not only that but some OEM PCs can't even get W10. My mother AIO from Dell couldn't run W8 or 10 without going insane. Unless that machine is WELL over a decade old, I'm calling BS on that. Most of my family is running recycled machines that I picked up from thrift stores, did a few upgrades on (usually RAM and hard drives), and all of them are running Windows 10 with zero issues. These machines are anywhere from about 2008-2012 vintage.3 points -

Corporate pride. You just know that it hurts someone's pride there that a large portion of the code came from Google and Apple. I don't think it has anything to do with "pride". A for-profit organization will use all possible ways to get more money. When Nadella took over, he was keen on open sourcing stuff from the very beginning. Yet it took nearly 7 years to switch to open source Chromium Edge. I believe it is more about the "sunken cost fallacy" by trying to improve their in-house product again and again to gain marketshare and win over consumers until it was not justifiable.2 points -

The term "pushing out" means something completely different to "released," that's why. To release software is to make it available for someone to obtain and install. To push it out means to actively install it on a computer from a central location. Pretty obvious stuff. It's not a Neowin thing; it's an IT thing.2 points -

These machines are anywhere from about 2008-2012 vintage. Yep, upgrade the ram and add an SSD and BAM! New machine! That don't solve everything, I tried to get an HP machine running Windows 10 and it would not run correctly, mainly due to getting the drivers, i tried Windows 8 drivers as they are the most compatible with Windows 10, but the machine would still not have it, had to go back to Windows 7 for it. Saying that the machine was as slow as hell, so sticking Windows 10 on it would have made it worse. Well, you are not going to get Windows 10 on a Pentium 4 or Pentium D. Core2Duos on the other hand... I have Windows 10 running on my Pentium D machine. It’s my legacy legacy machine for a reason but it ran Windows 8.1 (and this was upgraded to Windows 10 in 2015) like a champ when it was my primary machine.1 point -

They had committed to W8.1 support through to at least 2023. Were you worried they may renege on that? Quite frankly, I hope so. More focus on Windows 10 is needed. It's time for legacy to go! Windows 8 would have done a lot better if MS did not change the start menu to a star screen, yeah I know it is a little thing, but that is what stopped a lot of people going for Windows 8/8.1 and also the awful Hybrid mobile system. Get rid of the start screen with a normal start menu, get rid of the charms and Windows 8 was a pretty solid OS. I don't believe I said that about a MS operating system. I found it better than Windows 7 in the memory management and I found it ran software much better. i wanted to keep it on this Ryzen machine when I updated, but it kept having memory management problems and blue screening, something it only did a computer of times on my old Bulldozer based machine and both blue screens was from software i installed that was beta. There were some problems with Windows 8, one of them is that you needed to unplug your machine from the net when setting up, otherwise it tried to link your machine via a Live account as it was then, but MS is doing that again with the home versions of Windows 10. But it certainly was not as invasive as Windows 10, and even now it is easy to get rid of the updates that MS put on it to collect data. Also no cortana. I did try Windows 8 again, I got it working, but I updated the video card and Windows 8 for some reason did not like displaying in 4K.1 point -

The third paragraph is especially revealing. Maybe, just maybe, some of the more mature and intelligent employees at MS are finally (!) realizing that WIndows-10 isn't nearly the home run they were led to believe. WIndows-7 is very alive and well, albeit somewhat old. However, its reliability and ease of use more than fulfill many users' needs.1 point -

Says someone who probably doesn't own one and just look at specs. For casual tasks, it's more than fine. It is slower than a 4210U in my Thinkpad and that thing is sluggish AF. I have a Surface Go (1st gen, 8 GB RAM / 128 GB SSD), and it beats the socks of my Surface Pro 2 (i5-4300U). The Surface Pro 2 is super sluggish even with a fresh install of Windows 10. In all honesty, I don't care or mind. I'd rather wait additional months if they feel they need that to achieve desired levels of quality. Sure waiting months to play most anticipated game is annoying, but nowhere near as annoying as waiting devs for months to fix issues you're experiencing while already playing the game. So, yeah, take your time CDPR. Sometimes few months of extra work can separate ultimate experience from just "good".1 point -
